Performs better?? 997 GT3/GT3RS and Turbo are but, NOT Carrera S(X51)! So, your verdict is based on what??

Yes I'm a die hard Porsche fan ans I still stand by with what i wrote. The R8 has the same pricetag as the GT3 and the GT3 is more powerfull, lighter and as a pure sports car the GT3 is probably the better choice.
The only 911 which might get hurt by the R8 is the 911C4S which also has around the same pricetag as the R8 but is underpowered.
I guess you are are die hard R8 fan.
The 911 has been around for ages and everytime a new car sports car has been launched people have said "A new 911 killer is a round the corner". At the end of the day the 911 has turned out to be untouched at the top of the throne. Neither Ferrari, Lamborghini or BMW has been able to end the Sucess of the 911 and neither will Audi with their R8.
Despite cars like the Z06 being a bargin the 911 Turbo, GT3 and the other 911 models are still selling well. The R8 is a cool sports car but from a performance-to-money ratio it is nothing spectacular and will not hurt 911 sales as a whole. Period.

Nonsense. How do you know the 911 performs better than the R8? How are 415 bhp of the GT3 more powerful than the 420 bhp of the R8?
Also, the R8 is targeting the 911 Carrera (yes, the most common 911, not specialized cars such as the GT3 or Turbo - apples to oranges, my Swedish friend). All the comfort features it has, including the Bang & Olufssen sound system, add weight, whether you like it or not.
Oh, one more thing, regarding Kreso, the die-hard R8 fan: he has had a 430, has a Turbo on order, owns a Gallardo and is getting an R8. He is more of a balanced car enthusiast than you can ever be.

Oh sorry I wrote the post on an empty stomach so I mixed up the GT3 with the 911.
I don't understand how the R8 can target the 911 carrera when it is a little over 20 percent cheaper.
More over doesn't the R8 target the italian big boys aka F430 and Gallardo, especially since some people are even calling the R8 a super car.
Don't get me wrong. I is not like I think the R8 is a bad car it is just that I don't think that it will cripple the 911 sales. As the whole the R8 is what Audi has needed for years. A car a'la SLR and CGT to stand in the front line and represent Audi. The TT was the first car that made Audi a cool brand and now the R8 makes Audi even more cooler.
Though it is a big pitty that the car's performance have had to be held back becasue of the Gallardo. I would have been a good idea if Audi had made a RWD R8, that would have easily been 80-100kg lighter then an R8 with quattro.

Porsche better begin to step it up becasue the 911 is hunted and new alternatives begin to pop upp everwhere. Like the Z06, R8 and maybe even the coming M3, which will attack the cheaper 911 models and even the cayman.

True!
I don't think we will see a RWD R8 (or even R10), as "quattro" is what Audi really stands for. But you are absolutely right about your estimation that the new R8/R10 is the new technology leader of Audi. Audi really needed such a car and the R8/R10 surely is a right attempt in that direction.
