I feel, that with that "traditional" and unconditional marridge within a brand is "GÖTTERDAMRUNG"

Performs better?? 997 GT3/GT3RS and Turbo are but, NOT Carrera S(X51)! So, your verdict is based on what??

Ok. You are "die hard Porsche fan" I guess...

If anything, this will put a squeeze on all models of Porsche below the GT3. Getting away with underpowered models will be hard with the 420+hp R8 at comperable price and the 420hp M3 at a much reduced price!

I expect to see a trickle down effect starting at then 911 and dripping down to the Cayman and Boxster. If not, Porscehe might be in some trouble

    Re: More R8 pics

    What he just said.

It i getting harder to pay almost $100K for a C4S with 350hp...

Yes I'm a die hard Porsche fan ans I still stand by with what i wrote. The R8 has the same pricetag as the GT3 and the GT3 is more powerfull, lighter and as a pure sports car the GT3 is probably the better choice.
The only 911 which might get hurt by the R8 is the 911C4S which also has around the same pricetag as the R8 but is underpowered.

I guess you are are die hard R8 fan.

The 911 has been around for ages and everytime a new car sports car has been launched people have said "A new 911 killer is a round the corner". At the end of the day the 911 has turned out to be untouched at the top of the throne. Neither Ferrari, Lamborghini or BMW has been able to end the Sucess of the 911 and neither will Audi with their R8.
Despite cars like the Z06 being a bargin the 911 Turbo, GT3 and the other 911 models are still selling well. The R8 is a cool sports car but from a performance-to-money ratio it is nothing spectacular and will not hurt 911 sales as a whole. Period.

Nonsense. How do you know the 911 performs better than the R8? How are 415 bhp of the GT3 more powerful than the 420 bhp of the R8?
Also, the R8 is targeting the 911 Carrera (yes, the most common 911, not specialized cars such as the GT3 or Turbo - apples to oranges, my Swedish friend). All the comfort features it has, including the Bang & Olufssen sound system, add weight, whether you like it or not.
Oh, one more thing, regarding Kreso, the die-hard R8 fan: he has had a 430, has a Turbo on order, owns a Gallardo and is getting an R8. He is more of a balanced car enthusiast than you can ever be.

Oh sorry I wrote the post on an empty stomach so I mixed up the GT3 with the 911.
I don't understand how the R8 can target the 911 carrera when it is a little over 20 percent cheaper.
More over doesn't the R8 target the italian big boys aka F430 and Gallardo, especially since some people are even calling the R8 a super car.
Don't get me wrong. I is not like I think the R8 is a bad car it is just that I don't think that it will cripple the 911 sales. On the other hand the C4 models will ge taking some punches in the gut, especially the C4S which can when well equiped easily have a 100k+ pricetag. Then there are already soem folk like my friends's father who jumps on the Z06 wagon. he sold his 996GT2, didn't want to wait for a 997TT so he bought the vette.

Porsche better begin to step it up becasue the 911 is hunted and new alternatives begin to pop upp everwhere. Like the Z06, R8 and maybe even the coming M3, which will attack the cheaper 911 models and even the cayman.

In general the R8 is what Audi has needed for years. A car a'la SLR and CGT to stand in the front line and represent Audi. The TT was the first car that made Audi a cool brand and now the R8 makes Audi even more cooler.
Though it is a big pitty that the car's performance have had to be held back becasue of the Gallardo. I would have been a good idea if Audi had made a RWD R8, that would have easily been 80-100kg lighter then an R8 with quattro.

Please, allow me some words in this open forum....

For all my life, I've been a Porsche lover, an unconditional......I am still....but

...and refering your words "I can not understand how the R8 can target the 911 carrera when it is a little over 20 percent cheaper."....I have something to say....

Not that cheap.more or less, a "decent" R8 is arround 130.000 euro.

Much faster...I need not the first "reviews" of "expert" journalists

Personally, I care nothing about who sales more, if Audi, Porsche or Marsrokets....I'm not in the stock markets.

Down to earth, I want a car on that tag price that can give me some spice in my driving.........I was expecting this performance in the 997S..really I enjoy it since he is with me, but, to be sincere, I was really waiting for "that" HP............

I haven't driven an R8...I'll do before a decission, but almost for sure, Audi did the rigth job

PD. Up to now, "market" Audi's never appealed to me....but R8 remains me, not only LeMans, but the "Quattro" jumping in Finland with Michelle Mouton or Hannu Mikkola.....I sincerely think that Audi stated a new "standard"....Also hope this can "excite" the sleeping "sport car" companies

    Re: More R8 pics

Anybody knows what's the difference between S-tronic (ex DSG) and R-tronic (R8)? Is the latter the same with e-gear wiht a different name?

    Re: More R8 pics

Andrej, you are in the same group as Stefan(Rossi), Soenke(zzboba), Ron, some other members here and me. The name of that Group is TRUE SPORTS CARS ENTHUSIASTS!
We are not single brand fanatics...

    Re: More R8 pics

R-Tronic is more refined version of e-gear.

    Re: More R8 pics

One other thing-R8 is with the same equipment around:
    -5000Euro cheaper then 997 Carrera S(X51) coupe
    -9000Euro cheaper then 997 Carrera 4S(X51) coupe
    -12000Euro cheaper then 997 Targa 4S(X51)

Audi prices are with new German(19%!!) Mwst., Porsche's are still with old(16%) Mwst. With new Mwst. price difference is as above...

    True!

I don't think we will see a RWD R8 (or even R10), as "quattro" is what Audi really stands for. But you are absolutely right about your estimation that the new R8/R10 is the new technology leader of Audi. Audi really needed such a car and the R8/R10 surely is a right attempt in that direction.

BMW really revolutionized the automotive industry with ther 7-series. Sure the car is a bit ugly but it is hipp and people bought it. The car marked a new era in design. Radical and emotions was the new sh*t. The Bangle design was very critisized but also praised by many people. Cars like the 5er, Z4 and 6er made other cars look dated.

Next on the wagon was MB to jump on the radical/emotion wagon was none other then MB with their CLS. It does look wierd from some angles but it is sexy, expensive and it became a hit. Take a look at the latest Ferraris there are some who like them, others call them ugly but they are selling hot like fried chicken in New York.

Audi who had been like Volvo throughout the 80s and 90s and designed cars with very monotonic design has with the TT and R8 showed that their design teams have balls and dare to experiment with design. Do I even have to mention the new Honda Civic?

The only manufacturer standing in its own corner now is Porsche. I love the design of the 911, Boxter and Cayman. They look very clean, mature and timeless but I think it is time for Porsche to give us something distinctive and radical. If they don't do that with the Panamera or the next Panamera they might find themselves limping on one leg like they did in the 80s.
