V10 5.2L version intro late 2007, delivery spring 2008.
No diesel or light weight version!
There were a lot of garbage info on some Audi forums(and you know what forums I am talking about) and now those "deep throats" are claiming that Audi changes specs of R8 in the last moment!!
Come on! Most of them were dreaming or simply were(are?!) on some kind of ilegall substance.
Lets say it 1400kg?? No way... 440hp or more on V8?? No way... I saw the final pics and options in late August but, I did not saw final specs! My friend(Ron knows who I am talking about!) told me that "R8 will be faster then 997 Carrera S, almost 997 Gt3 fast! Excellent track times based on internal info(in Tom Kristensen hands)."
So, now we can see that some Audi fans are saying "F...K R8!" , or "It is not faster then 997 Turbo!"...
My, my... That was not R8 intention to be competitor for F430, Gallardo or 997 Turbo. Its natural competitors are Aston Martin V8 Vantage and 997 Carrera(S/4S) and Targa versions.
It is an excellent car IMHO!
For those who do not like it or did expect something else there are other cars on the market... Thank God, these days choice is very wide indeed!

I have found that there are some well connected people to car companies on Rennteam that are very credible. When it comes to inside news on Porsche RC has it, Audi and KresoF1 is our man. If you look back to his postings he has had all the correct info, so I would believe him way bdfore Road and Track as I have seen them post many things that turned out to be way off base.

Well, people hoped the V8 R8 would be a 997S killer at a lower price point. Because of weight and official performance, it is fast, but my guess is whenever the engines are updated on the 997, performance will be close enough for people not to notice. Also price seems to be a little higher than expected.
It might just come down to 2 seats vs 4 seats.
Considering the official specs on the V8, the V10 might just be between the 997TT and TTS. We shall see.

Correct. 997S is around 89k if I remember correctly, but to be fair you have to compare the R8 with the 997 Carrera 4S with the X51-power pack and 381 hp and you also have to include the new vat of 19%.

Just talked with my brother who is returning back to Croatia from his trip in Paris and Neckarslum. In Neckarslum presentation he find out that Audi have more then 1400 fixed orders for R8!! Very soon waiting period will be more then 1 year(hello Ferrari!)!
