    Installed Bluetooth Handsfree kit

The Sony Ericcson HCB-30 Bluetooth handsfree kit works great in my CS. Attached are photographs showing the key pad (very descrete) and the microphone. There's a hidden speaker and a control module. You can dial with voice commands or use the phone's keypad. The phone can stay in your pocket. When you start the car it automatically connects. Very sweet! Connecting to the PCM's 'mute' didn't take (probably needs the resistor that was suggested to step down the signal?); but hitting the mute on the wheel's easy enough. Using a Motorola V600, but it also worked with a Sony Ericcson T68i and a Z600.

It is likely that an open-collector, NPN transistor is the appropriate way to connect the mute output from the telephone, to the mute input on the PCM2. It will "pull down" the mute input.

An alternate is to use a relay. Select a low current +12V relay, energize the coil with the telephone output. Have the common contact connected to ground and the normally open contact to the mute input.

I was just going to say that!

    Thanks for the advice wingless.

    Re: Driving the Mute Input

would it be possible to some how hook into the pcm and use the numbers buttons to type in a number to call?

    That would be cool..

    Re: Installed Bluetooth Handsfree kit

wow, I have the Ericsson T610 (asian version) hm... I am interested in this too, how much did the whole thing including labor cost you?

    Re: Installed Bluetooth Handsfree kit

It cost about $200 for the kit and $200 to have it installed at Car Toys. Wingless: thanks for the transistor info. I'll run it by the installer.

    Re: Installed Bluetooth Handsfree kit

I have the same kit installed and you only need to get the right pin on the back of PCM2 to get it to mute properly.

    Re: Installed Bluetooth Handsfree kit

    Kevin,

Can you give more details on your phone install? Does your sytem mute the stereo? How do you dial numbers, with the keypad? Thanks...

    Re: Installed Bluetooth Handsfree kit

OK. I thought they had the right connection on the back of my PCM? Clearly, based on your screen that isn't the case. Your handsfree kit is the Sony Ericcson HCB-30 Bluetooth? Did you have the 'advanced music mute kit' (HCE-16, I think) installed? Any special transistors; or was it just plugged in to the phone mute connection? With a little more info, I'll go back to the installer and have them correct the mute. Thanks.

    Re: Installed Bluetooth Handsfree kit

Actually I have had two systems in the car. I am using SE Bluetooth now. Becker gave me the pinout for the stereo mute. If I remember right it is the blue connector on the PCM. I will try to dig through my stuff this weekend and tell you the exact pin number. You might also ask on the Becker board. You can buy a kit for 5.00 from Becker US at http://www.harmanbecker.us/ then "Whats New" to hook up the music mute. I am not using the advanced music mute. I mounted the external speaker. With the Most system, I do not see any method to use the advanced music mute with out a serious hack since the advanced music must goes between the head unit and amp. In our cars that is a fiber optic connection between the two.

I use my handsfree unit often, so I have tried a number of them. There is a rumor that Porsche is releasing a Bluetooth module for the PCM. I think it might be this one, but I am only guessing. http://www.stollmann.de/doku/desg/most.pdf I tried to Email the company for information, but I did not get a response.

Currently the mute only mutes. You cannot use the keypad, but hopefully the Bluetooth/MOST module will allow you to better integrate the phone and MP3 players, etc.

    Re: Installed Bluetooth Handsfree kit

Kevin: Thanks. I'll wait to see if you can come up with the exact pin # before I go back to the installer. I love Bluetooth. I can't figure out why it isn't more popular here? An in-car voice activated phone linked to my BMW's 'PCM' (an upgrade from the orig.) was approx. $1,700 installed for an out of date Motorola phone. Bluetooth allows you to painlessly upgrade the phone. When I was having my kit installed an SE rep. from North Carolina was at the installers. They were putting HCB-30's in all of the company cars, preparatory for a sales push. The HCB-300 is coming out which will allow multiple phones to pair simultaneously to the same car phone. Thanks for your info.

    Re: Installed Bluetooth Handsfree kit

I used to love bluetooth but it can be annoying too. I have the bluetooth headset and I never use it again. I guess I am a simple guy

My 2/25/04 post in this topic: http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=101337 contains links to the PCM2 connector pin out.

    Re: Installed Bluetooth Handsfree kit

It should be position 3 on the same connector with the power wire. You have to insert a metal pin into the plastic connector, so it might be best to buy it from Becker. They pop in easily, but do not come out easily.
