    best performance tires for 996tt

    Hi,

Good weather is coming so I was looking for your advise what would be the absolutely best performnce tires (for daily driving too) for my 996tt.

Friend of my suggested to try Toyo, I was thinking Yokonama. I just installed Evo sport exchaust so the best tires for summer is my next project :-)

Re: best performance tires for 996tt

Next week I'm putting on the PS2's, they are standard on the GT3 and GT2 and I keep hearing from everyone how good they are on grip and handling compared to the others. We will see.

Re: best performance tires for 996tt

    Thanks

    Here are my choices:
    1. Michelin PS2
    2. Pirelli P-Zero Rosso
    3. Pirelli P-Zero Corsa

Looks like Michelin is the one leading based on reviews I found so far on the net

    Hi,

I used to drive Michelin Pilot Sport Cups on my 996tt. I did use the car as my daily driver. The Tire is also perfect on wet roads but watch out for puddles.

    Cheers

Re: best performance tires for 996tt

    P Zero Corsa System

    P Zero Corsa System Asimmetrico

    P Zero Corsa System Direzionale

The P Zero Corsa System was developed for use as original equipment on the Ferrari Challenge Stradale version of the F360 Modena, bringing the benefits of the P Zero System concept to the Corsa. The water-ejecting Direzionale is sized 225/35-19, for the front, and the traction-delivering Asimmetrico is sized 285/35-19. The P Zero Corsa System matches the P Zero Corsa in braking, grip and wet handling with just the slightest reduction in "hard handling." However, it matches the O.E.-friendly P Zero Rosso in hydroplaning resistance and nearly matches it in noise characteristics, while just slightly beating the regular P Zero Corsa in comfort.

Re: best performance tires for 996tt

Here in the US, there is no OEM rear tire ( 295) Turbo size for the PZero Rosso. The Michelin PS2 in Turbo 225 and 295 18" is coming in at trickle rates so if you blow one out, it is hit or miss if at that moment one is even avail in the country. It is not N -rated for the Turbo sized front tire ( 225 ) . The rear tire is, as it is the same size as the GT3's OEM N-rated PS2 - which uses 235 in front . Wouldn't use 235 in the front of the Turbo as understeer would be even greater and the larger diameter may not be compatible with the Turbo's AWD.

If you increase the front to 235 you decrease understeer, not increase it. I know it its a typo but just wanted to avoid any misunderstandings from other readers

Thats a good point about the PS2 lacking a replacement if you blow one, I didn't know there were so hard to get in the US, there seems to be no pr oblem here. And whats the AWD's different diameter tolerance 3%? I wouldn't mess with that just in case.

    Carlos,

Let me how it works out for you 'cause I'm due for some new tires too .

    I sure will Ron
I'm calling my dealer tomorrow morning, if I'm lucky I may have them on in the same week and broken-in by the next week. I'll be able to see how they perform then.

Carlos , thanks for catching my error. I probably shouldn't post on Sunday AMs when I'm still half asleep .

Re: best performance tires for 996tt

I just got the famous Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's installed, and had a highway trip to O Porto (Portugal) today to peel the stickers of the threads

They haven't been broken in yet but what I was able to test and noticed right away was:

    - handling: very quick steering response and steering feedback
    - grip: very stable on highspeed long bends (couldn't test the at limit grip on slower bends in the dry)
    - ride: definately on the stiffer side (which is good in my case) and feels a bit more nervous since you notice more the expansion joints, bumps, etc on the highway
    - road noise: I have no clue, I'm deaf to that stuff and could not remember to compare.

But since we get a lot of rain here in the winter and spring, I was really worried about perfromance in wet and specially standing water (aquaplanning) since I do a lot of high speed highway miles. On the way is was raining quite a bit and though I didn't really test the grip in wet since they weren't broken in but I was very surprised (I didn't expect it) how well it handled standing water. I took it up to 180-200km/h speed under rain and no problem, it evacuated the water to the side very efficiently , maybe even better than the S-03's (my previous tires that I used for that reason precisely). On the way back it wasn't raining anymore and the road was only damp, and high speed perfromance was great and reassuring, took it up to 250km/h and no complaints.

I have no clue it it will maintain this perfromace as it wear or how long they last but overall I was really pleased, its like a "perfromance upgrade" No wonder they were chocen as stock for the GT3 and GT2.

They were Euro 1400 the set and I use 225/40/18 front and 265/35/18 rear on my M030-C4, with pressures 34 PSI front and 40 PSI rear which is what works for me.

In conclusion, I humbly highly recommend them

Sounds great thanks for the analysis Carlos.

The latest recommendation from Porsche are the Bridgestone Potenza S-02A N3 and the Michelin Pilot Sport N1.
    Forget about Toyo or Yokohama!
If you drive your car on the track, you should go for semi-slicks or the Pirelli P Zero Corsa for example. There are others too. For street driving, always stick with Porsche's recommendation because they do extensive testing all the time.
