    Malaysian GP coming up

The Malaysia GP is this weekend and its nice and hot, track temp over 50*C (good for Michelin, bad for Ferrari)
Friday practice is over though the times are useless since everyone wants to save their engine for the race (especially non Ferrari-Williams teams) and only really push it on Satuday qualifying. So we will see tomorrow hao everyone stands before the race. Any guesses? Lasts year's pole was for Alonso

Ralph is pretty pissed at Montoya for his passing maneuver that almost ran him (Ralph) out of the road in Autralia like Alonso also, so it should be interesting, maybe they run each other out of the road in Australia, I'll be keeping an eye on them during the race, here is an article on it:

    Ralf critical of Montoya move

    I can't stand that Montoya

    Re: Malaysian GP coming up

Sorry to see your guy Alonso go off during qualifying. The race should be very exciting - on Speed Channel (1:30AM EST Sat night - tonight)

    Re: Malaysian GP coming up

    So its over... (spoiler)

Much better race than Australia IMO.

Congrats to Button for his well deserved first podium, proves the BAR's are for real too. Wasn't button the one who failed his firts practical drivers licence test because he went past two cars to fast with little space between and the examiner got really scared and failed him? ... good, good, he's got potential

    I can't believe Kimi's luck, so sad.

Unbelievable start by Alonso, which by the third curve had overtaken 7 riders without touching any of them.
7th overall place is great after starting from the back of the grid but after finnally passing the much slower Couldhard and starting to leave him behind quickly in half a lap, his team makes the misfortunate decision of making him due only 2 pit stops and dumping over 200lbs of fuel on the car and no new tires for the rest of the race making him loose any chance for the race. If they would have allowed him 3 pit stops like everyone else he would of keep putting more distance with Couldhard behind and a good chance of catching Trulli who wasn't that far away at that point. The only way that would of helped Alonso is if the safety car would of come out which is foolish and risky since he had too much to loose."Somebody" in Renault should get a good smack in the back of the head for that decision

Ferrari took the win again but I wonder what would have happened b/w Scummi, Montoya and Alonso, if Alonso wouldn't have gone off in the second qualifying session after making the fastest lap in the first session, and would of started with them. It certainly would of have been more interesting But Schummi as always was perfect, unfortunately for Montoya Notice how none of the F1 riders like or talk to Montoya? not even his teamate

    Re: Malaysian GP coming up

    Congrats indeed

I felt bad when Kimi Räikkönen's engine blew .

    Re: Malaysian GP coming up

Also felt for bad for Webber. Absolutely horrific race.

    Re: Malaysian GP coming up

As usual ferrari won, I don't know we everyone who is a non-Ferrari fan bothers watching F1, I mean its not even close and whats the honour in competing for 4th or 5th place?

The most boring sport of today, is F1

You already said the same thing over again after Australia...
So you only watch a rennsport if your team always wins?? well, its going to be a long time till you tune into F1 then given the way the McLarens are going

I in turn, usually cheer and support the underdogs of the sport, its not as easy or a route but the victory will come and it will be much sweeter and merited and there is always the satisfaction and admiration of the moral victory if you come close but don't make it because of the car advantage

    Re: Malaysian GP coming up

    Bilal,
You must appreciate the predicament that you've put yourself into. If you watched the race, then that puts you in the state of contradiction. If you did not watch the race, then you have no basis for judging the current season. Interesting.

PS: This leaves only one possible choice to save face - you are a Ferrari fan.

It is boring for those who don't win.

BTW: I like your new User name, Bilal.

What I don't like about most car races is the fact that these cars actually don't have anything to do with the cars these companies are selling to people.
I'd love to see much more a racing series between the 911 Turbo, Lamborghini Gallardo, SL55 AMG and the new BMW 6series. Maybe not really but I guess you guys understand what I mean. The F1 became mostly interesting because of the drivers but not necessarily because of the cars. It is a competition between giants of driving and it is fun to watch these guys. But if I'm honest, I prefer to spend the sundays with my little girl instead of watching F1.

Maybe it is time for something new.

    Re: Malaysian GP coming up

Thank you RC /justin/ Its amazing how so many people have recognized who this is...

You're right, I mean what apart from the transmission does Ferrari offer for its road cars. BMW have their high revving engines, and Mclaren have grafted an F1 nose on the SLK/R

Then again, if you were to see a race between road cars, the DB9 would probably come first joint with the Gallardo, then a 911T, and finally behind the Opel Astra GTi, we have the SL55 You know its true!

Well, I did watch the entire race out of curiosity, come on, as bias as my comments will be, you can't always predict EVERYTHING.

Road cars and F1 cars will always be different. I mean the performance alone is incomparable. Weight will keep increasing once EU regulations demanding pedestrian protection come into force. The only REAL company that makes close to F1 in their road cars is Ferrari, but then build and reliability, BMWs SMG is pretty much what Montoya uses, and well the SLR is just waaay off. I think if the Enzo had the CGT's soundtrack, then it could've beaten the mighty Mac F1. Anothrr topic another day...

    It was pretty obvious

    Re: Malaysian GP coming up

    Bilal,
Wasn't disagreeing about F1 being boring at all. Read my post again. BTW, do you know what the pedestrian regulations entail exactly? They seem to apply more for front engined vehicles than mid-engined ones. Still, I don't think this is a good excuse for vehicles to increasingly gain weight.

Also, Aston will be racing their DB9 next year. They might be at Le Mans.

    RC,
See my post about road racing in the Ferrari 420 pic thread on the 7th page. I'm calling for more road racing, which would force sports car manufacturers to build more lightweight vehicles.

    Re: Malaysian GP coming up

I'll admit that i don't know enough about these pedestrian regulations, but i still think i have a better solution than modifying the cars and adding weight, and i think it will ensure that people don't get hurt by cars:

Don't walk on the damn road, and keep an eye on your kids to make sure they aren't on the road either. When you're driving, practice defensive driving and always assume pedestrians are suicidal morons, and i think you'll do fine.

I can't believe that they are making regulations to guard against people getting hit by cars. i think its ridiculous. People should be smart enough not to get hit, and not to hit people.

you might all disagree with me, but whatever, thats my 2 cents.

I agree. That's why I'd always prefer to watch Le Mans, Daytona, Supercup or ALMS than F1. I love to see the cars I drive racing. Particularly when the Porsches win!

Sports car racing has always had a special appeal.
