    PCCB or Standard Brakes?

    What is the better option for long term use and function. I will track the car a few times but I am more concerned regarding replacement pads. Do the PCCB pads last longer than the Standard. How often would they need replacement when compared to the Standard. And cost of replacement compared to the Standard, also any other recommendations or opinions regarding this issue.

    I have the PCCB's and love them. I can't say how expensive they will be in the long run but, I had the standard red brakes on my 996 C4S and never had any maintenece issues in three years. I've heard the PCCB's last much longer.

    The stopping power is staggering and actually takes some getting used to.

    Several people I know who track their cars do not recommend PCCBs. So if you plan to track the car you might consider getting steel brakes.

    I drove my 993 today to have reapir shop reset engine computer warning, lingering result of bad gas here in Clearwater. Anyway I couldn't belive how much different the 993 brakes and shifting feel from the 997TT. The 997TT brakes (I have the steel ones) make the 993 brakes feel like they are on a minivan. Same goes for the 997TT 6 speed short shifter vs. the 993 standard 6 speed shifter. It's hard to judge these unless you can drive both and the 997TT is just amazing.

    I can't say enough good things about the 997TT, it's just an amazing car IMO. Every bit and more than I ever expected and I've driven nothing but Porsche since 85, so I have a good base on this.

    The steel brakes on the 997TT are absolutely amazing. If they're good enough for Walter, they're good enough for me and I don't track the car.

    The cost of the PCCB pads is about $100 over those for the steel brakes. I have the PCCBs on my 997S cab and I can't tell you how great they are! I've been driving Porsche since 1974, and these are the best to date! (This is my 5th decade of Porsche driving).

    From the first time I drove my F430 with Pccb i sweared that i wont buy any other car again without pccb.
    First of all the feeling of the braking power is great and secondly i believe that our lifes worth most of any price that brakes costs. 997tt IS A REALLY FAST CAR.
    What is the reason to have NAV, Bose sound heated seats sun roof metalic paint and so other BS, if i dont have the best brakes in the market?!

    but be careful, PCCB needs to step on the brake 3 - 4 times in order to warm them first.

    PCCB will easily allow you to plant your passengers eyeballs on the windshield.

    Get the PCCB. You're probably looking at around $140K for your car so I assume you can cough up the extra cost of PCCB pads. As for tracking, probably the only thing to worry about is an unintended trip through gravel. Flying stones might strike a rotor and crack it, but otherwise you'll probably be just fine with the new generation PCCB. Couldn't say the same for the Gen I PCCBs.

    The general manager at our dealership buys couple of porsche's a year and all of his cars have PCCB's. He says with steel brakes you not only change pads everytime but also rotors. He says with PCCB you only change pads (not sure for how long)? Maybe some can put some light on this. Will the PCCB rotors last longer than the steel rotors? I ordered PCCB regardsless and it all goes back to buying a $150K car and wanting the best and nothing less.

    I kinda agree with silverrules on his last sentance, but I don't know about his GM. I would doubt you have to change rotors (even steel) with every pad change, but clearly the ceramics are going to last a whole lot longer than the steelies (they damn well better!)

    I was under the impression that PCCB Vs. Turbo brakes is only different by prolong break usage, but for braking power when it is in its working temp range... if PCCB and the Steel brake are the same size, does it still have greater breaking power?

    For all of you who have the PCCB, how does it feel compared to an aggressive aftermarket pad on steel brakes such as Hawk Blues or Pagid Orange? I have 993tt brakes on my 944 turbo and 97M3 but use aftermarket pads which have alot more braking torque than the stock Jurids. For the street I use Hawk HP+ and Pagid Orange for the track. For about $200 for aftermarket pads, I wonder how different they feel than the PCCB's.

    I think one of the big advantages of ceramic vs. steel rotors is the ability of ceramic to radiate the heat better. This is because the ceramic "looks" like a better black body in the IR region where heat is radiated. They are not only lighter, last longer but also handle the heat load better. All the power from the engine and the car's mass combine for a large amount of energy (1/2 MV^2) and the breaks must dissipate this energy and quickly!! Ceramic does this better than steel.

    The ONLY thing I hate about my 997 S cab are the steel brakes. I'll never do it again. Hopefully that helps you a little from making the same mistake I did, especially on a turbo.

    I'm on my 2nd Ferrari with Carbon Ceramic brakes and every Porsche & Ferrari I order from here on out will have them or I'm not interested in the car.

    PCCB will help you have clean wheels. No brake dust accumulation.

    My big fear is longevity. I How long will a PCCB disc last? And when you do have to change the discs, will you need to get a second mortgage?

    I recommend the PCCBs. I just attended the Porsche Driving Experience at Barber, and there is clearly a difference between the PCCBs and the steel ones. PCCBs stop more quickly, and take a bit of getting used to if you are driving and stopping aggressively. BTW, all the instructors at the PDE (well known professional drivers) are unanimous in their recommendation.

    I read or heard somewhere that the rotors should last to at least 300,000 miles. Again, I have them on my 06 Cab S and think they are remarkable.

    I suspect that for regular street use, including regular spirited driving, the PCCBs should last the life of the car, and even high mileage (like 200,000 miles or longer).

    I do not track my car, I do drive spiritedly, and my steel disks are fine and pads have more than half-life at 40,000 miles. I like to drive with smoothness though, I do not accelerate like a mad-rabbit only to brake 100 yards down for a tight turn - preferring to even out the course and actually be faster. My tires also last a long time.

    I wouldn't worry about the cost of the pads..it's the cost of the rotors!! $5,500 each. I've got a 997 GT3 coming in Nov, which I plan on tracking often. PCCB awesome for track (no brake fade, ligher weight), but cost of replacement (warranty void if on track) kept me away.

    Too bad we dont have data on steel vs PCCB's rotor life.
    Has anybody replaced thier PCCB's? If yes, at what mileage?
    Same question for steel rotors? I dont think the steel crowd would spell out the data though, or will you

    I would be surprised if anyone kept one of these cars long enough to have to replace a worn steel rotor

    Are you sure that it's $5500? My dealership quoted me $3400. But then again the front and rear rotors are different sizes.
