    Gas Milage

1,000 miles into my C2S Cab. I filled up yesterday and drove about 125 miles, mixture of highway with some stop-n-go and some city driving. I was pretty easy on the pedal. Used 7.85 gallons, giving 15.9 mpg. Seems pretty poor to me.

Also the gas guage as well as the 'miles to empty' computer seem really wacky. After filling up last night and driving to work this morning about 25 miles, the guage reads 3/4 full. Tell me it ain't so ...

    Re: Gas Milage

I have the same car. 15.9 mpg is great gas mileage compared to mine, which is 13.5-14.5 mpg with a mixture of highway and city.

    Re: Gas Milage

... and on the same road, apparently.

Where in NJ? I'm in Bergen County and work in Weehawken.

    Re: Gas Milage

I have a 2006 C2S coupe. I get about 20 mpg, mostly highly and country road driving. If I set the cruise control on a freeway, I average 22-23 with the speed set at about 72 mph, in sixth gear of course. Lots of stop and start will lower the mileage considerably.

    Re: Gas Milage

Mileage will improve after the break in. But around town I only get about 17. 24 on the Hwy.

    Re: Gas Milage

Bergen County also. With just city driving, I get around 12.5 to 13.5. The best I can do on a long highway trip is 17 to 18. At 9600 miles, I'm well past the break-in period. I think those getting the higher mileage likely drive the car more gingerly than I do.

    Re: Gas Milage

While in Europe burning up the autobahns (as well as leisurely cruising along the Amalfi coast) I averaged 19 mpg in that 3200 mile period.

The other day I thought I would do a simple test of the car's potential when playing it very easy. I drove down to LA with the cruise on 70 mph, and simply left it there with no 'exciting' moments. It came in at 24 mpg. The car now was about 3500 miles on it.

    Your mileage will vary

    Re: Gas Milage

23 hwy, 14 or so in town with short trips.

    Re: Gas Milage

I don't understand why I see such low numbers

    Re: Gas Milage

Anyone else thinking gas mileage is irrelevant if you can afford a $90k toy? Especially in the US where gas is 2-3 times cheaper than in europe.

    Re: Gas Milage

Gas prices are surely a nuisance and costly.
Dont get me going on the 'Oil companies ripping us off'!

Ok, so when is the new Ethanol Porsche gonna be introduced.
Better gas mileage and lots of SUGAR for a SWEETNESS we call speed!

    Re: Gas Milage

I'm waiting for the biodiesel Porsche.

    Re: Gas Milage

I don't know how it is possible to get 26mpg and in CA with 91 octane, 10% ethanol fuel? Impossible! I can get up to 23/24 driving on the freeway but that's the absolute top. My average is 14.9 with an average speed of 29.

BTW, I'm not sure I would post a pic on the web of my average speed at 78mph!

    Re: Gas Milage

I drive about 12 miles each day to and from work. About 90% highway. Also use the car on back roads on the weekends. I'm just shy of 20k miles and I'k averaging 21.8. Went to Long Island with fellow Rennteam members last Summer and averaged 25.4.

    Re: Gas Milage

It's not evidence ... he could have been on a track, or have flown the car to Germany, or ...

This is a true statement but I still hate it....

    Re: Gas Milage

I average between 19 and 21 overall, kind of even mix of country and town driving (I don't live in a big city, so when I say "town", I don't sit in much gridlock). Agreed, discussing mileage amongst 911 owners is a bit silly...

No joke, no exaggeration, my "old-school" push-rod 5.7L LT1 V8 in my '93 Corvette 6-speed used to average 32 mpg on the interstate, with the a/c on, and cruise control set on 79 mph.... It had a 20-gallon tank, so I could go 600+ miles between fill-ups. And at the track, with nothing more than a Borla cat-back system, K&N and open filter-lid, it ran 13-flats in the 1/4. It was the most efficient driveline from a power vs. economy standpoint I've ever owned. People give the Corvettes a hard time about the amount of displacement they use to get their h.p. figures, but when you look at h.p. plotted against fuel efficiency, they're quite cutting-edge and efficient engines. Just a sideline.

    Re: Gas Milage

The major frustration is not the money (it pales compared to just the insurance costs where I am), but the need to stop at every other filling station I pass. I would be much happier if I thought I could get 300 miles between stops; it's running more like every 200 miles. I've done 1,000 miles in the last 2 1/2 weeks (i.e. since I took delivery), and I've filled up 5 times already.

My thoughts exactly, if you want great milage get a Toyota Prius or a Smart "Cart". Drive the Porsche the way it was meant to be driven a car with 355HP will not get 30mpg with today's technology.

BTW, my 997s get's better milage then my 05 Audi S4 V8, so I am happy.

    Re: Gas Milage

on long highway drives with cruise control set at about 75 i have peaked at 26mpg!

    Re: Gas Milage

My computer reads 16.5 MPG for combined city & highway driving. Not great since window sticker estimated 17 -24 MPG. Oh well, "What it is, it is."

    Re: Gas Milage

I get about 19.5, but my driving is spirited.

In regard to mileage. My buddy Matt at work says to me, "Hey Lee, My Prius gets 50 mpg, how about your Porsche?". I replied, "How much pus*y will that Prius get you Matt?"

Matt's married though, so he shouldn't be chasing pus*y anyway.

You sort of opened yourself up for this reply. If you need a 911 to get pus, then its a lost cause anyway, just stick with the car and forget girls, aint gonna happen, unless you enjoy giving just rides and thats it

    Re: Gas Milage

15-16 city, 26 highway. I'm pretty happy with that. Plus, gas is cheap now!

I'm like you mate. Over 10000 Miles the average fuel economy is 24.9 MPG! I always use 98/99 Ron Fuel. But I also drive it very hard. Ps it's used 5 litres of oil too!

    Re: Gas Milage

Just finished my second round trip to Vermont from NJ; we're rennovating our ski house there.

The first one was 440 miles in one day, averaged 23.5 mpg including about 30 miles running around town in Ludlow, VT doing various errands. The rest was about 250 miles on the Interstate crusing at 75mph, and 160 on two lane state road, mostly around 50-60 with the usual slow downs for towns, lights, and traffic. On the way back, I passed the 2000 mile breakin barrier, and was able to floor it leaving the Harriman toll booths - what a rush!

The second was Friday night up and home last night; we spent 45 minutes in stop'n'go traffic trying to leave our town on Friday; despite that, finished at around 21.7 mpg.

It seems like the car gulps gas at an unintuitive rate under two circumstances: idling and full throttle. Well, maybe the full throttle situation is not unintuitive, actually.
