That is the stupedest thing I ever heard... you can't hear the sound coming from the utside into the cabin? Which anybody that knows anything about sport cars s aware that the outside sound is the good sound that Sportscar lovers appreciate BTW, not the muffled dampened monotone sound inside.. a falsely fabricated-amplified sound in the inside could be argued that that is the one for poseurs...

So what's more important?
I guess that depends on one being a poser or a driver

An artificial sound inside is for posers and probably the most embarrassing thing you can do to a sportscar.
We're at the point where you can be the fastest or just sound like you're the fastest.
The secret of life is to admire without desiring.

I do not speak from artifical inside sound, I dont like that also.
But some cars have a good and loud outside sound, but inside muted or drohning or what ever.
The priority for the exhaust sound designers should be the inside sound not the outside sound.
But I get your point, a good natural inside sound is almost impossible with bad outside sound.

Once again, the ridiculous regulations of the EU are to a large extent the source of blame for the lack of noise as the sound emission standards of automobiles is being dramatically lowered.
DocMo:I guess nobody is interested about BMC air filters...or maybe I didn't post in the right section?!
Just try it , it will not cost you much but probably not make any difference. I have one on my 997 , but it did not change the sound. I just fitted one on my 964 last week. There I hear/ feel a very slight improvement.

I had one on my Boxster. More aggressive intake sound. Other than that zero difference.

You hear it, when you didn't have the sport exhaust. With sport exhaust even without pressing the button you don't notice it.
I had them on my 981 S without sport exhaust and it was noticeable with full throttle open, on my GTS it didn't hear any difference. But I didn't drive the car directly before and after, because of bad weather.

Its really hard to capture exhaust sounds over a mic, the one in the video there sounds horrible, on acceleration its sounds like a Golf with an aftermarket exhaust and rust holes on the muffler, but its probably the mic not picking up the full range of frecuencies.
And I'm not even mentioning the overrun popping, not much of a fan of it at all, and not even on the atmospheric 991, the overrun popping sounded much better on the 996/997.1 with sport exhaust, its more natural and less continuous/frecuent and just ocasional. Fortunately, the PSE in the 991 rarely does overrun poping if you are in normal mode, it only appears when you are in sport mode.

KMM:That farting popping noise on the overrun gets annoying quickly. It's just too regular and too predictable, compared to what you would popping you would get from a proper old style sport exhaust.
Agree, the popping, at least from this video, seems tottaly artificial. Never thought you could hear so much the turbo whistle, which is nice.

Popping is just ridiculous on this car. For some reason, it's less ridicoulous on the sls. Sounds 100x better:

Good find for this Nick Murray comparison - useful as Nick has some good skills with cameras and especially mike work for sound.... but, in the end he admitted to being pleasantly surprised how good the 991.2 sounds, basically the same conclusion that RC reached back in December.

That is what most of our local sources have been saying for months - interesting to see it confirmed on those California documents like that. Guess we should expect around 450 turbo horses?
