Take away the targa roof, and that should be the next 911.
I wonder how long Porsche will go from 993 design to 996 and back?
They've been doing so for 40 years, doesn't look like it will change anytime soon.

GM is absolutely right, most Porsche customers want and dream of a 911. This car is a living legend and Porsche can't change it.
914, 928, 924, 944, 968.... have been failures ..... So far the Boxster and the Cayenne are the only non 911 sucessful products. Guess why the Boxster is a sucess ..... because it looks like a 911 ... The Cayenne is a totally different beast ...
So the next 911 (998) is very highly likely to be quite similar to the current 996/997.

I remember Harm Laggay (chief design at Porsche) said to Peter Robinson in a recent interview.
The 911 constantly evolves, but two things will never never ever change:
1-The engine is a flat 6
...
PS: I guess that also confirms rumors about a V8 for the 911. Being an engineer, I knew from day one that that rumor would never happen.
