    Nice CG Image

Of course magazines still believe Porsche will make a 2+2 front engine a la 928 but if porsche would create something like this image for the next generation 911 (998) it would be a good looking car, IMO.

    Re: Nice CG Image

Looks Great, but if Porsche would built a 928 sucessor, i would like it to look like these cg.

I would prefer a diferent design for the 999.

    But anyway, nice find Ron

    Re: Nice CG Image

What a beautiful looking car ..... where can I sign-up for one?

Too bad it's going to be a 4-door saloon instead ..... BUT to be fair to Porsche, the market segment is much bigger than the GT 2+2 .... so it's smart to go after the bigger cake ... less glamorous but may be more lucrative.

    Re: Nice CG Image

It reminds me more of a Ferrari than a Porsche.

    Re: Nice CG Image

Looks more like something from GM with CGT healights than something from Porsche!

    Re: Nice CG Image

Take away the targa roof, and that should be the next 911.

I wonder how long Porsche will go from 993 design to 996 and back?

They've been doing so for 40 years, doesn't look like it will change anytime soon.

I agree on the change issue, 40 years, same stuff. However, we can only hope Porsche decides the 998 is the time to make a radical change in design. I think it's time. Make something lighter, faster, aggressive looking. 40 years is enough of the same basic shape. Some would say don't mess with it, but I hope the "same old Porsche" days are limited...

    Re: Nice CG Image

It's already been tried and it didn't work. The 928 was to be the replacement for the 911 and was technically superior in many ways. Buyers didn't see it that way and voted with their wallets. I doubt we will see a break from traditional 911 styling cues.

    Re: Nice CG Image

GM is absolutely right, most Porsche customers want and dream of a 911. This car is a living legend and Porsche can't change it.

914, 928, 924, 944, 968.... have been failures ..... So far the Boxster and the Cayenne are the only non 911 sucessful products. Guess why the Boxster is a sucess ..... because it looks like a 911 ... The Cayenne is a totally different beast ...

So the next 911 (998) is very highly likely to be quite similar to the current 996/997.

I agree completely with you guys, and Porsche is very aware of this. Its the only thing I am sure of about Porsche.

    Re: Nice CG Image

Well thats disappoiting, because trust me, if I was looking at a sportscar (don't laugh, seriously) , And Porsche made that CG the next 911, I would buy it in T or GT3 trim, SERIOUSLY.

Swilsonator, I'm sure someone said the same thing 20 years back, that "oh I hope they change the shape radically", but 20 years on, look where we are, and where we are about to go, back to the 993!

    Re: Nice CG Image

I remember Harm Laggay (chief design at Porsche) said to Peter Robinson in a recent interview.
The 911 constantly evolves, but two things will never never ever change:
    1-The engine is a flat 6
2-and it's mounted behing the rear axle.
This is what defines the car.
I guess that leaves the door opened for the way it looks then. But I love as it is, and I'm pretty sure the 998 won't be very different, it'll have a sleeker front, maybe CGT ish, but it'll be undoubtebly 911, that's why we buy right?
PS: I guess that also confirms rumors about a V8 for the 911. Being an engineer, I knew from day one that that rumor would never happen. A Carrera with 70% of its weight on the rear axle would not be a good idea... Fact.

Also, a flat opposed cylinder configuration keeps the heavy parts of the engine closer to the pavement than a "V" arrangement (unless one uses a 6" ceramic clutch with the "V" engine).

Low center-of-mass is a good thing

P.S. Fanch, what sort of engineering do you do?

    Re: Nice CG Image

this thing has a cgt front clip, fer 456 doors and 1/2 front fenders, and 911 twin turbo rear fender flares and lights. i hope it stays just a drawing
