    Audi Q7 V12 TDI Revealed

Not quite Cayenne Turbo S performance, but still ... very impressive.

    Incredible torque; 738 lb/ft!

Audi is proud to present a world first - the first twelve-cylinder diesel engine in a series passenger car. This six-litre V12 makes its debut in the Audi Q7. It produces a colossal 500 PS and 1,000 Nm of torque. With this engine Audi has opened a new chapter in diesel history.

The V12 TDI is reminiscent of the engine featured in the new R10 Le Mans racing car - it catapults the driving performance of the Audi Q7 into the echelons of top-class sports cars. The car sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds, and has an electronically governed top speed of 250 km/h. Maximum torque is available from just 1,750 rpm. The high-tech diesel engine, with the world's first 2,000 bar Bosch Common Rail system, provides the high-performance Audi SUV with superior power reserves in any situation. The impressive sound of the new Audi is provided by the ultra-modern piezo-injection system. The V12 TDI transmits this power through a new six-speed tiptronic gearbox to the quattro permanent four-wheel drive system.

Re: Audi Q7 V12 TDI Revealed

Wow that is very impressive indeed. It looks better than the regular Q7 too IMO.

    Thanks Gary.

Re: Audi Q7 V12 TDI Revealed

The final example of a no-sense overtech race. No weight has been declared... maybe 2.7 tons (this is genuine truck weight) with 500 HP and over 5 meter length... seems way out of control.

Each day I enjoy more my 997 and feel the Cayenne is a great car, but too heavy.

Re: Audi Q7 V12 TDI Revealed

I Like!! When will they start producing the car, when will first deliveries be?

Re: Audi Q7 V12 TDI Revealed

    incredible, nice nose!
what about the rims? are 21"???

    Autoweek says mid-2007 (link)

Twentyone inch rims? God, I hope not. Actually, I don't care really. I don't think I like the looks of this SUV anyway. There's something about that large, prominent, central grill on all the new Audis that just seems awkward to me.

Re: Audi Q7 V12 TDI Revealed

Wonder how the tiptronic will handle it. I wish the car looked better tho.

Might be academic for us (USA). I just saw in CarConnection this morning (link) that there is no plan to export the V12 diesel model to the States.

Re: Audi Q7 V12 TDI Revealed

This could be my next family car.
I can see Q7 at almost every street corner over here in Germany, seems they sell pretty well. Some say the Q7 is ugly, funny enough I would call the Q7 a Cayenne "evolution" since it is based on the formerly readily developed Cayenne XL version.
The V12 Diesel engine is a treat in my opinion since Diesel consumption should be pretty low at lower speeds and very unlikely over 25 litres/100 km at higher speeds.

I'm still looking into a US SUV as our next family car, which should happen sometimes around 2009 or so but who knows, if the price is right and I can get a cheap factory owned Q7 for a substantial rebate?!

Why no Cayenne anymore? Simple answer: too expensive in my opinion. My Cayenne Turbo is now worth (price for a new one) around 140000 Euro, which is shocking to me, everytime I remember. Almost as much as my 997 Turbo costs, no way I'll ever get a Cayenne at this price tag again.

Sorry Porsche but although my Cayenne Turbo Powerkit is probably the most impressive family car I ever owned and although I still have a lot of fun driving it, it isn't worth that much of money. I'll be looking out for a family SUV in the 80000 Euro range to replace the Cayenne in 2009. Unfortunately there aren't many choices left, US SUVs are getting better and safer and maybe the next Cadillac Escalade will be it. Maybe. Or the Q7 (or Q8 by that time ).

RC, the Q7 should be a great machine for you! Even bigger than the Cayenne, in order to accomodate your growing family and probably about as fast as the 450 PS CTT. Not to mention much lower fuel consumption .

Re: Audi Q7 V12 TDI Revealed

Q7 is a smashing hit so far. Audi alreaday announced twice they were boosting output to accomodate the demand .... I'm sure it's taking some sales away from the Cayenne.

Re: Audi Q7 V12 TDI Revealed

I like my Q7 4.2 but compared to my Cayenne TT, it is night and day. The fun part is not there and I hardly drive the Q7 unless I need to.

Re: Audi Q7 V12 TDI Revealed

Q7 is hideous....the trunk area completely ruins it for me....If it had a better butt, I MIGHT have considered it, but right now, everytime I see it - I think of Caravan.

The new 2009/10 Cayenne Turbo is going to blow everything out of the water.

Not at those prices. It was the fastest SUV out there when it came out, but the competition is strong (except for the Turbo S). When you can get the Audi V12 TDI for the price of the Cayenne S or thereabout, are you really saying you'd get the Cayenne? Since we're talking daily drivers here and not passion cars, the price may come into play.

Re: Audi Q7 V12 TDI Revealed

    Tractor

Re: Audi Q7 V12 TDI Revealed

At the minimum Porsche needs to get rid of the regular Cayenne turbo and bring down the turbo S to regular turbo price, which they should do when the facelift is out. Competition vs the ML 63AMG will be very difficult otherwise.

About the Q7 design, everybody has different opinion so
I will refrain to comment (FYI the Q7 is a huge succes in the US already). It does drive more like a car than a truck. One thing I truly hate is the roof and pillar lining. The fabric is some kind of perforated beige very inelegant. I should get some info to switch it to something else, alcantara?

Also missing is an iPod hookup...

Re: Audi Q7 V12 TDI Revealed

I do not like the Q7..ugly to my eyes
But that diesel version looks better and the engine/performance would make to me the best buy.

The next X5 could also be very interesting...

Re: Audi Q7 V12 TDI Revealed

    RC is getting the Panamera

Re: Audi Q7 V12 TDI Revealed

The front of the Q7 is alright, but the back is just hideous tractor like with no class. I bet it is really not fun to drive like audi's anyway; probably drives like tank on steroid!!! I drove the A6 V8 fully loaded that was really not fun to drive, so the Q7 must be even worse cannot imagine...

Re: Audi Q7 V12 TDI Revealed

The setup is not made to be fun to drive, it should be smooth and confortable, and it is, not very different from an A6. For fun, get the Cayenne TT or even better a real sports car.

Re: Audi Q7 V12 TDI Revealed

I drove a Q7, and was unimpressed- not as much fun as my Cayenne. I hate that oversized Chrysler style grill. My wife has an early '05 Audi- I rushed to get it before they ruined the car mid-year with that ostentatious grill; and the back of the Q7 bus- blah!

I'm with you on the grill, hideous! ... and Chrysler too! What are they thinking?
