In general how do others that actually have 997Turbos handle the break in. The manual says don't rev over 4200rpm for 2000 miles. Can Sport mode be activated (for over boost)? Can one run past 4200rpm without damage if not done often?
TIA,
Mike
I respect everyone's opinions on the matter, but, I'll say it again, unless there is irrefutable data to support another theory, I'll take the manufacturer's suggested break in advice. Otherwise, it's just speculation. Additionally, anyone buying the car later would like to know (if the seller has integrity) that it was broke in according to the manual.
As far as oil changes, I did mine at 900 miles, it certainly doesn't hurt anything, but your wallet and I'm okay with that. The piece of mind and the likelyhood that it rids some contaminants is the benefit.
Regarding sport mode, use it. Overboost isn't available unless the accelerator is floored. I just wouldn't floor it until after break in (2000 miles.)
Find a middle ground. Don't baby it, vary the throttle and use the gears. Load the engine somewhat, but never lug the engine.
Good luck.
