WOW! If they manage to keep the weight down, Porsche has got a serious competitor against the 911.

Re: Aston Martin pictures - I like this one

OMG, the AMV8 is such a chick magnet. For all single guys put your deposit down for the AMV8 since 997 doesn't seem to be a huge leep from the 996.

By the time AMV8 serves its term then it's time for the 998 which, hopefully, will be a revolution.

    Just my 2 cents.

Re: Aston Martin pictures - I like this one

The 997 or 996 next to the AMV8 seems totally vulgar, this will be the most beautiful and charming car of its class. Gosh what a beauty.

    AMV8

Re: AM - Large but beautiful

That rear is gorgeous too (and in my favorite color)
Hmmm... a 5 hours drive to the Aston dealer doesn't seem so far away now

Anybody have any specs the future AMV8?

Re: AM - Large but beautiful

I'll be getting some in the mail soon .

Didn't want to talk about it but I called the dealer earlier today and talked to the only certified sales guy @ Aston Department.

He told me that he has 30 orders already and rumor has it that it will come with 450hp and 467lb torque, impressive.

He said he's going to mail me some info he is an older guy and didn't want to deal with sending me info via email .

So, as soon as I get the info I'll post it here my dealer is about less than 5 minutes drive from my house so I guess I'll be saving 4 hours and 55 minutes compare to Carlos .

My favorite color is the dark blue as well.

Interestingly, he said that have had only 9 orders for the DB9 so far, kind of odd for a big city like Houston, but they have had more than 20 orders for vanquish so far.

Based on what he told me their allocation is as follows annualy:

    Vanquih: 3 cars annually.
    DB9: 10 cars annually.
    AMV8: 20 cars annually.

He also said they require a $5000 non-refundable deposit for any order and if I were to order one now I would get it in the summer of 2006.

Re: AM - Large but beautiful

That car MASSACRES all the competition just on looks!
    It just look so gorgeous.
Ron, you're so right my man, this car will be the ultimate woman magnet.
I said real woman, not bimbos . Astons are class where the competition can sometimes be vulgar.
I LOVE that car and will definitly wait for its release before making a final decision on the 997. But Carlos is right, servicing will be an issue, fortunately, there is one dealer in Paris.
In an old Autocar Carlos (About a couple of weeks now) there was a big article on british cars offensive, including Aston of course and numerous interviews.
One of them, chief engineer of new Astons, can't remember his name sorry, said he was particularly proud of the weight of the DB9, certainly not a lightweight at 1700 he said, but not bad at all considering the level of luxury.
However, and that's where I'm a bit scared for the AMV8, he said it was 50 kgs which for me is not much, especially since the engine will be a less powerful V8.
But on the plus side, he also said in the interview that the DB9 is the Grand tourer and the AMV8, the little sporty one and although the numbers won't be as good as the DB9 (logical) it will feel sportier.
The exhaust will also be sportier, now considering that Aston's V12 is probably the best sounding engine in the industry right now, we're in for a treat!
    I LOVE the AMV8.
I also hope they will keep the hatchback boot, very nice and pratical for big intercontinental trips, in great british style, fantastic.
Just imagine yourself Carlos with the ladies!!!
My name is Spain, Carlos from Spain!

Re: AM - Large but beautiful

    Ron,
Are you sure about the 450 hp figure for the V8???
It's just that I read in Autocar from an Aston official that the V8 will be less powerfull than the V12 (Which is 450 hp) which makes sense considering that the V8 will be at least 40% cheaper than the V12.
    However, I don't exclude a AMV8 Vantage 450hp later though!!!

Re: AM - Large but beautiful

My dealer, as well as Aston NA officials have only told me 380hp naturally aspirated. The 450hp is not unconceivable as Fanch is saying, but from a supercharger. I would not be surprised if this car could get as expensive as $125k+ with a few options.

    Fanch,
I'm with you on the weight...I hope they can keep it at a reasonable level. Their original 1500kg target was healthy. But to me, it seems feasible to cut at least 150kg off the DB9. But hey, Porsche weights just keep going up, so there doesn't seem to be a lot of competition in the weight area (mostly the hp area).

One thing I can add is that Astons have remarkable compliance over bumpy roads, as they do lots of testing in that area. They routinely claim that on the b-roads in their area, certain sports cars cannot cope. Hopefully this means they aren't making the cars too soft.

    Ron,
I snagged a #2 spot in San Diego.

Aston has ditched the sequential manual gearbox for the DB9, so you can either have a paddle-shifted 6-speed automatic or conventional 6-speed manual. I wonder what the choices will be for the AMV8.

Re: AM - Large but beautiful

This is what the sales guy told me nothing solid. But at the same time he came up with an odd figure for torque as well, 467 .

He also emphesized the sportiness of this car Vs. the DB9. Weight ratio is 50/50 (front and back). He specifically said that everything is taken after vanquish but made smaller so to speak. Gerabox for one thing is the same as vanquish except it has been tweeked to work with AMV8 and many more items that he mentioned which I don't remeber at this time.

But it all sounded very exciting.

Re: AM - Large but beautiful

380 hp is more like it I think Ron.
Ask your dealer why would someone get a 460 hp Vanquish when you will be able to get an AMV8 with 10 hp less, lighter, for less than half the price???
I think we'll know soon anyway.
Probably in less than a year.
    How's the 996 doing anyway?

With so many choices coming out nowadays my 996 doesn't appeal to me any more . We have to wait and see.

Some more of my and Carlos' favorite color.

    Lucky man

Regarding the price, you're right he did mention that this car would be on the +$100k with options

Re: AM - Large but beautiful

You just confirmed what I always thought for the DB9, there is NO F1 gearbox like the Vanquish, which kinda makes sense I guess considering that the DB9 is a GT.
I think the AMV8 will have a similar Gearbox to the Vanquish bc more sporty, just my opinion.
So the paddles for the DB9 are just like the buttons on the sterring wheel in the Porsche Tiptro? Am I right Justin?

Re: AM - Large but beautiful

Slightly more expensive than the 996 then.
Come on man, don't be such a rat!!!
    Who ordered a SL55 recently???
BTW, it's almost confirmed, I will come a few weeks in Sept, prepare Houston for me my man! I'll be fasting a month before to be ready for Pappadeaux and Fogo de Chao:p.
And of course, we'll go and check Aston and teach a thing or two to that dealer, I mean, who does he think he is talking to??? I'm actually surprised by how much more I know on Porsche compared to my dealer.
