Next Porsche Cayman GT4 to stick with naturally aspirated flat six...
The new Cayman GT4 is expected to be powerful enough to wear RS badge; manual and automatic gearbox options

It surely will! I wonder how Porsche will set the price level. If the .2 GT4 has the 4.0l engine and PDK transmission on par with the GT3 they cannot offer it for 60% of the GT3. But one of the success factors for the .1 GT4 was the attractive price level and pricing it away from this customer segment would make little sense.

The .2 GT4 won't have the same HP as the GT3 in inspire of the same engine, that will help with the price a bit, that said, I don't think the success of the GT3 was is pricing, I cooked be wrong but they would have sold out just the same with a higher pricetag I think.

From a production point of view it would be better to stick the new 4.0l but decrease the volume to 3.8l. Certainly more economic than keep producing the old engine in parallel with the new. Even better would be the 4.0l engine as is, but ECU detune. The additional development and production costs would be negligible over the GT3 engine and there is an economy of scale.
The real question is the price tag. With a detuned 450hp 4.0l GT3 engine the car is on on par with a 3.8l 997.2 GT3 RS. I fail to see Porsche pricing such a car at 60% of a new GT3. If they do I am first in line

I still think that detune the 4.0 engine doesn't make sense from a Porsche perspective. Our GT4s used an off the shelf (almost) regular engine, which created the necessary gap with his big brother. Only an RS would make sense, IMHO

Gnil:That will be a terrific car . And well done for sticking with NA and offering both gear boxes ! Porsche is on a very good path with their GT's !
Not sure if the GT4 RS gets manual...

jamesdamanuk1:If it gets pdk and 450bhp its going to be insane!
Andreas Preuninger has said many times that RS cars will always be PDK only as they are intended for track performance and manual would only make sense on the more road going regular GT versions. So if it's an RS version of the GT4, is going to be PDK only, if it's just going to be a normal GT4 then it may get a manual again.

I'm curious, why would you go for an RS? you don't do any sport driving on mountain roads and such, or go to the track...

Good question and I'm dying to read the answer.
One thing is for sure though: A street legal GT4 RS would be the hell of an investment. A very special car, especially if the production is limited (rumor).

bluelines:AP said in mid March that the GT4 RS does not have green light and is at least a year away. So either the rumours are false or he is not being honest

Difficult to read between the lines when you keep on writing one liners...
The problem is that I have information I can post and other information which I cannot post (two reasons for that: It hasn't been confirmed by a second source and/or the source has asked for not publishing it and I always keep my word).
Just be patient, guys: The information will leak eventually sooner or later. The GT4 RS, according to rumors, isn't without controversy at Porsche. Some people seem to think it is a mistake, others think it is pointless and would also devalue the Clubsport version (which isn't even street legal). One thing seems to be sure though: The Cayman needs a marketing push, so maybe this is going to be it.
