    tt's / f430's at monterey

    just back from the totally over the top weekend at monterey. the relative mumbers of 997 tt's vs f430's didn't make much sense. i went to a lot of the venues i.e. bonhams, rm , gooding , blackhawk , pebble beach tour stop in carmel , one day at the historics, and the pb concours , + all the driving to see all this.

    in this time i saw a whole lot of f360/430's certainly in the hundreds, most driven by middle age + guys with a bored blonde in the passenger seat. the # of 997 tt's - one black from nevada parked in lot # 1 at the concours... huh.. i mean this is the weekend that if ya got it, ya bring it and drive it. simply put there weren't any. go figure.

    There was a GT silver in in the Porsche corral, right next to the C GT!

    Attended same venues, same surprising observation. Have a first place position at dealer for 997TT powerkit car and still haven't seen a 997TT in person yet.

    To-date in US, prob 1500 430s sold vs ?300ish 997TT....

    See perhaps 3-6 430s every day in commute traffic/office pkg garages in SF, but see maybe 1 997TT every 1-2 wks....

    If you want exclusivity, get the 997TT. There are too many F430's on the road already. I see way too many here in Newport Beach compared to the 997TT.

    you got it exactly backwards. f430 posuer's were in abundance and offered no viewing excitement.

    or maybe the 997TT drivers were out actually driving & enjoying their cars. While the ferrari drivers were doing what they do best...stand next to their ferrari & scream "look @ me! I need attention"

    Need to consider the context of PebbBch....car shows self-select a largely exhibitionist/aspirational crowd...in addition to a few hard-core car guys who actually own serious cars....

    Have always been more impressed by seeing 430/997TT/any other <1 yo high-end car being casually driven to office on a rainy/gloomy day than by guys who just bring out their cars on a sunny wkend PM for poseur duty.....

    To F's credit, see a fair no. of 430/612/575 (and I'm sure 599 this Fall) being driven to/fro offices on even rainy/cloudy winter days in SF/SilicVy .....actually, would guess I see more new F's in traffic on a rainy day than I see 997TT/996TTS....

    Saw a pal's new 997TT in Monterey--slate grey with loads of natural brown leather. A stunning combo! The darker grey really sets off the rich leather, and enhances the rims as well.

    And if anyone gets a chance to spend time at the Post Ranch in Big Sur, DO IT! It is splendid, serene, elegant, romantic and restful.

    seems like ferrari's usp -uniqueness- is not working at the moment.... well, just wait till the production starts again after holidays and the boats start arriving in the us... Think that the 997 tt will loose its' present uniqueness soon.
