Why would I do something stupid like buying a 997TT? If I wanted a fast daily car which is comfortable with plenty of room and safe, I would buy a M5 for about 20% less. It still amazes me that adults drive high performance sport cars to work.

I know Nick will think otherwise about it, I almost think that Nick only drives a F because of the resale value

When I spec.d out my F430 my salesman advised me that the electric seats would have better re-sale but I wanted the racing seats (lots of reasons) so that's what I ordered. With the hault of all 430 racing seats for the rest of production it appears like the racing seats may actually increase the re-sale of my car now instead. Lucky,lucky.

As long as you didn't order them in XS...

Doesn't your US dealer just have the gentlemen's agreement that one rcvs MSRP back upon trading-in 430/599 in 6-12 mos to that dealer, for next latest/greatest F @MSRP???.....no matter mileage/color/options, etc (if mileage is >>5K mis, major dealers seem to get regular custs another new F sooner as needed )....and even airship cost can be added to sticker....


F indeed provides a very cost-effective ownership expce in US to its repeat buyers, w/frequently refreshed samples of F's latest/greatest technologies....

That said, even if I had to buy F in EU w/P/MB-like resale value, I'd spec it to my tastes (as I do w/the deprec-prone new P/MB I buy every yr in US )....after all, any F/P is a discretionary toy that becomes obsolete in a yr or so....and inevitably picks up stone chips/windshield chips and CCM/clutch wear&tear if enjoyed appropriately....no matter how carefully detailed/garaged/parked.....

MSRP back for 6-12 month old cars wouldn't be a good deal imo, not in the NorthEast anyway. I'm MAKING money on my trade and I have the car 2 years. But to answer your question - It's gentleman's agreement that to get a new car at msrp you will trade your car back to them, otherwise forget about it. In other words you have to be an existing customer AND trade your car back to them directly. Reason being is obvious- They make money in both places. This I can understand because my dealer would never be able to survive on the 40 new cars they sell every year. Trade in price isn't really discussed until about the time of trade because who knows what condition the car will be in and the market value is generally well known. But yes it's generally understood that unless the car is in some type of major accident you wont lose money. Anyone that's taken a spirited drive w/ me can tell you I enjoy the hell out of the car but in terms of "stone chips/windshield chips" Nadda one on my car.

I could understand guys that pick options because of re-sale but for me it's such an emotional purchase that I spec. my car exactly how I want it and if someone else after me appreciates it too then great, if not no biggy. Last thing I'm going to do w/ a Ferrari is spend $250k and then get the car and the wish I had ordered an option I wanted. Ya neva know what's going to happen and what's going to sell the strongest, take the racing seats for instance, now they will probably ADD value to the car because of that 10% of buyers that want racing seats and Ferrari type guys always want what they cant have.

Hey Shrink. When you order the Doppio instruct them to do the following; start with a splash (shot) of steamed milk, followed by foam and the is the important part, the expresso last. The expresso poured through the foam and steamed milk enhances its flavor.

I believe Machiatto means marked foam. Most Barista's in the US put the expresso in first and follow with the foam. That is a no no. The splash of steam milk is my preference.

There's times where I'd rather be in my SUV when I'm stuck in traffic etc. but for some of those miles where I can nail the throttle or take a turn really hard taking the Porsche makes the 1.3 hrs I spend in my car everyday LOTS OF FUN! I suspect most of the Ferrari owners that hang out on rennteam aren't multi-millionaires and probably care about resale value, like Nick. I would imagine an F430 with 50k miles would have the same resale value as a 997TT with 10k miles

Suspect most of the guys who get annual, "free" 430/599 also own SL/CL55/65, etc as daily commuter cars (which all have $50Kish one-yr deprec, no matter mileage). Most repeat F buyers tend to own multiple high-end cars; have short commutes; and have reasonably busy business/personal travel scheds, making it almost imposs to put more than 5K mis/yr on any one car before it's obsoleted and traded-in for some newer iteration....

And many guys who are still active in a competitive, legitimate business are sensitive re: perception issues (among employees, colleagues, investors, etc) of daily F commuting vs more low-key daily 55/65 commuting and occasional F commuting.....and the Greenwich crowd faces gruesome winter weather, reducing use of their high-perf cars for 4-5 mos/yr

That said, many of the richest guys in SilicVy seem to commute via SL55, not 65, or F .....even though they can drive whatever they choose w/fairly lim "perception" issues and no weather limitations.....and yet many of these same 55 commuters will casually spend the annual deprec cost of a 65 for cost of a one-way, 6hr SF-NYC pvt plane flt....
