    will the 996 turbo be made alongside the 997 next year?

    if not, how long until we see another turbo?

    Here is the info I've been told of: the TT Cab and C4S Cab will be produced as 996 platforms alongside the 997. There was speculation that the TT Coupe will continue for '05, then cease. Apparent plan would call for the TT Cab and C4S Cab to stop after '05 as well. Which would give PAG enough time to figure out if it was worth doing them in 997 form, but probably not.

    Rumors have speculated the 998 release as '08 (3 model years later), so if PAG follows history, they won't produce the TT after '05 until after the 998 release.

    Then there are the multitude of spy photos that show what appears to be a 997 TT.

    There you have it - total confusion.

    I heard the rumor that MY 2005 will be the last MY for the 996 Turbo Coupe. Don't know about the Turbo Cab, it might be produced a little bit longer if it sells well.

    Can someone help me understand that if the 997 is a "re-skinned" 996 (big assumption on my part), that a turbo cab/coupe could not be produced with a minimum of engineering...or is it just a marketing think on Porsche's part to determine that it is not necessary to change the Turbo models for the few years that the 997 is to be produced. IOW, the 997 will begat the 998 in a very few short years?

    Maybe I just don't understand. Maximation of unit sales improves profit????

    Marketing and sales strategy is a very important philosophy of Dr. Wiedeking. And what can I say, as much as I don't like it, he did a good job til now.
    And the 997 is NOT a facelifted 996 but much more. Wait until you see the specs, most body parts and technical parts are completely different and new on the 997.

    RC, that's why I said "if!" IMHO, the 996 was an experiment in new production techniques and engine engineering and styling that emphasized on efficiency rather than what Porsche felt the market wanted. There were certainly good things done like the Cabriolet top, but the 996 motor was certainly (IMHO again) an improvement over the one in the 993. I"m really no expert, but I just don't believe that the 996 was much more than production efficiencies and parts usage combinations with the 986 as influenced by Japanese production efficiencies and cost cutting in the purchase of components. ( I have one and certainly enjoy it, but I gave up a 993 to do so and am beginning to regret it....especially since I'm beginning to get an oil leak and have the dreaded scheduled examination this coming Tuesday.

    But clearly, based on the huge sales leap, the market did want what the 996 offered. And I have to admit, as much as I admired the "more solid" build quality of the 964 and 993, I notice that Porsche has really climbed up the J.D. Powers build quality and customer satisfaction charts. I just saw a chart that put Porsche up in the top five on J.D. Powers (I believe I'm right on this). And I remember in the mid-nineties, they weren't in the top ten.

    So if the new production methods resulted in better quality and reliability, I think that's great!
