Targa before and those window stripes now

I really like the new Targas..trying to configure one in my head, color, options,... BUT

Whats up with the new 'Window stripes' in aluminum ??

I seriously hate the look so much, I dont know if I can stand it. Is it gonna grow on me??
Heres a pic of the stripe, what do you think and why is it there!!

A Porsche flop design IMO

There was a earlier thread here on the targa. It had the targa with the stripe painted in black and one painted in the body color. It seemed allot nicer.

There is no obvious structural purpose to have that painted strip...

It's just an accent to show the different roofline/window profile of the Targa.

Completely uneccessary as a design feature, the targa's much sharper final window was different enough before to differentiate it and make it very easy to tell from the side profile...

It's obvious that it will divide people's opinions, but porsche knows this, there will still be many people in this market, otherwise there would not have been this model at all in the 997 line up (as was long rumoured).

The new chassis's rigidity shouldn't be that compromised, (as with the 996 - it's based on the coupe chassis and not the weaker/heavier cab chassis in the 993).

Mabye we'll even see a wider range of targa models, Turbo targa anyone ?

I think it looks great! I had a BMW 645 coupe w/ Sport pkg that had similar upper roofline/window moldings in black - and I had 'em changed out to the std bright aluminum trim. A great look on a dark color - not so hot on the lighter shades though.

Beautiful color!

Would look fabulous on a C4S coupe with black interior. Though if you were really brave you could do a black and terracotta interior.

Porsche tries to make the Targa distinctive. It was a wheel option in the 993 for example. I think it's okay and probably well received in some markets. As long as they introduce a "black out" option, it's neither here nor there.

I am thrilled if someone says YES.
You are correct, it then becomes neither here nor there.

Rhinos post here made me think there are some colors to choose, well, aluminum, black, or exterior color!!

It will look alot nicer and the lines should 'flow' better with the rear wipers deleted IMO.

I like the stripe. Makes the car look different. Maybe there is an option to have the strip painted or something. Hey Porsche has options for everything else it seems.

might as well have the " exclusive " dept. toss in a pipe with every order for as dorky as the stripes look,imo

I'm sure the alu stripe will be easy to get rid of. I wouldn't let that be deciding factor in not getting a Targa.

I really feel the Targa is not loved and appreciated like it should be!! It deviates from the actual 997 as much as possible, but still being a great Carrera, ok, Targa in my head. I need to study the real difference, is it only design. I know the prices 85k Targa and the S 95k

wierd design ideas dont help

i personally don't like the stripe at all. the targa is a great car. but the stripe would definitely deter me from buying one. just my opinion.

We can only hope their moisture seals are well thought out. If you monitor the 993 forum (Rennlist) you'll find several disgruntled owners of 993 Targas who have significant rust developing in their Targa roofs only to be told by Porsche that it is not covered by their corrosion warranty,--it's not considered part of the body. Imagine that!
