revised 997: What should we (realistically) expect to see?

just wanted to create a thread of what upgrades people expect to see on the 997 mid-model cycle revision based on what we've learned from history (ie. mid-996 revisions), spy photos, and other sources.

I assume that it will be a MK2008 and the 998 will arrive as a MK2011.

    --HORESEPOWER BUMP.

    (996 went from 296HP to 300HP to 320HP i believe)
    i would guess 380HP for 997s and 355 for 997 (if it's retained).

Also, the 380/355 were the original HP figures i heard rumored before the official 997 release.

Who would've guessed that the new model would have virtually the same HP (in 997 form) as the outgoing and with so many cars in the 350HP range that cost much less than 997 it seems inevitable to see a bump.

    -FRONT and BACK BUMPER MODIFICATIONS.

we've seen some great spy photos on this forum of what i expect will be the 997 revision -- based on what we've seen I'm guessing a revised/more aggressive looking front bumper, LED turn signals in front, fog light integration, LED brake lights/rear lights, revised rear bumper shape, etc.

Also, active headlights I would guess could be an option.

    -SUSPENSION UPGRADES.

I assume that there will be minor tweaks as i believe there were tweaks for the 996 mid-life revision.

    --INTERIOR MODIFICATIONS

I would guess that there would be bluetooth, satellite radio, Ipod integration, etc. Also I would guess that perhaps there will be a new color or two or midly revised plastics, etc. But this could very well not be the case. the interior looks great to so many "so why fix it if it ain't broke!"

    --PDK
I'm sure this will arrive eventually as in MK2008. Weather it will be available on the 997TT first, I don't know. but it'll trickle down.

    --9974S

I would guess this model/iternation would receive the Turbo's AWD system too.

These are just my guesses. I'm sure there will be a new color or two, perhaps a slightly different stereo, new packages, etc. But would love to hear from others as well and know that a lot of this information has already been posted on this great forum so i'm just trying to cull it all together and it wouldn't have been made possible with all of your contributions. thank you.

Re: revised 997: What should we (realistically) expect to see?

I think you're trying to guess something that is still several years out.

Re: revised 997: What should we (realistically) expect to see?

    ... a price increase.

    Count on it.

Re: revised 997: What should we (realistically) expect to see?

I dont know if I'm talking out of fear since I just got delivery of a 997 C4S Cab a month ago but knowing that the Targa was just introduced and the C4S was only introduced a few months ago, I would think is unlikely to see a facelift in MY08, But then again, after seeing what has happened to the Boxster's engine and the Cayman's positioning anything is possible.

I would say however that sales are quite strong at the moment for the product range so they might not be as compelled to introduce a facelift so soon and yes, I know that it would be a similar timeline that the one followed by 996 but Porsche now has the Cayenne and the Panamera in the near future which they did not before.

All that said, I think I agree with almost everything you say in terms of what the facelift will have.

Re: revised 997: What should we (realistically) expect to see?

Facelift of 997 range is definitely planned for August 2007!
Press intro June/July 2007. Presentation IAA Frankfurt 2007.
    First delivery October 2007.

And we'll see new 3.8/3.9 dry sump engine

I highly doubt that you'll see that kind of HP bump in the first round.

I would love to see the proof of that! What's your source? Do you have it in writing?

I would still think with Porsche only just introducing the Targa, TT, and GT3 that they would want to get another year out of them before they revise anything. On top of that DSG will not be ready, apparantly, for another two years.

Remember that Porsche has been testing the revised Cayenne for over two years at the 'Ring and that still has not been launched...

Re: revised 997: What should we (realistically) expect to see?

I guess we are never sastified with our cars. The 997 is only in the 3rd year. Sure there will be changes but the only thing we can say for sure is the price will go up. I'm sure there will be some body changes to make it look different from the 997 but it isn't going to be that much of a change IMO. I guess after the change in MY08 or whenever will will see a new thread asking what to expect in MY12 or something.

Re: revised 997: What should we (realistically) expect to se

The reason other "normal' car mfgrs do facelifts EVERY year is to create a buzz in the neighborhood. If you live (and compete) there, you want your new car parked in your driveway to be instantly recogniseable as new.

Since Porsche seems have started pandering to this mentality (with 19s, quads, SChrono, etc) there's ample reason to believe that they will introduce the differentiating facelifts alot sooner now, than they did in the past.

Re: revised 997: What should we (realistically) expect to see?

My source is directly from Stuttgart. Regarding PDK, it will be ready in two years for 997 Turbo. Rest of the range will get it in MY2008. My source is very reliable one but, it is up to you to belive what ever you like.

Re: revised 997: What should we (realistically) expect to see?

If the Carrera goes to 350, which I think is quite likely, it leaves plenty of space to move the Cayman S up to a level that justifies it price and marketing. There's a similarly large gap between the Boxster and S that the base Cayman could fill too. Then the whole range jumps in 20-25 bhp increments - do Porsche have a master plan?

dan--loved seeing the pics of your car -- seeing shots of Santa Barbara and hearing about it.

i'm just looking at recent history -- the 996 after four years MK2002 got a HP increase, turbo look lights, change of back lens i believe, etc.
    it makes sense.

i still believe the new car is phenonemal!!! and it won't take that away -- these are probably only slightly perceptible changes to the driving experience -- most importantly. again, these are my assumptions from everyone's info.
and yes -- i'm sure there will be a price increase.

Re: revised 997: What should we (realistically) expect to see?

This makes sense. The Turbo needs a more robust PDK so to speak because of the extreme torque. Therefore more time needed to develop one.

The rest will get PDK sooner, imo.

Re: revised 997: What should we (realistically) expect to see?

I'd love to see the hp hikes of 20+ but I just can't realistically see it happenning. Why kill off the extra Pounds$Pounds coming in from X51 which is frequently being 'sold out'.

As an entusiast I hope PAG do give us this freebie, but they aren't one of the most profitable car companies without reason.

Biggest change will be to the C4 range which will get the new AWD system from the TT.
