    My buddy always asks me, "So hows the Boxster?" Its a running joke because once at a gas station, a girl comes up to me and says, "Nice car! Is that a Boxster?" I said, "No but you're close." Flame me all you want but I didn't spend all that money for a car to have it mistaken for a cheaper one.

    This sounds like the comment a disgruntled Boxster owner would make who is a tad insecure about themselves.

    I'll make this my last reply on this topic because it's getting a little out of control.

    Insecure - those who know me would make that the last comment about me. You are paraphrasing from my original post by just including that one quote. W8MM made the first comment about the early 996 having the same headlights as the Boxster, and apparently that was a problem for him. We've discussed that issue between us. Let it go.

    I used to think the members on this board were a little better than others. Sorry I won't stoop to name calling.

    And sometimes (though it never happened...) I have the bad habit to go to the Admin panel of our forum software and start deleting "worst" Users.
    C'mon guys, this is no competition who is right or wrong (I saw the "real" car, so I AM right ). We're a bunch of car nuts who should enjoy this forum for discussing cars.
    I also sometimes wonder if people know what they're talking about. It is difficult to comment on a Porsche or Ferrari without having ever driven one. We don't expect any User to own a Ferrari but owning a Mercedes A-class or a Toyota Camry and commenting on super sportscars doesn't help much, guys.

    Frankly, for me it is one of the bigger advantages of a Porsche that the cars are easily mistaken for cheaper models by most people. But I live in Germany, people have a strange attitude over here with regards to spending big money on cars...

    So you want a car that has _money_ written all over it?
    This type of behaviour is common here (in Romania, not on rennteam ), unfortunately..

    ... and that type of "nouveau-rich" behaviour is responsible for probably over 50% of Porsche sales, especially in the SUV-Cayenne model line , so thanks to them Porsche is very profitable and can keep making sportcars for us others to enjoy for what they really are

    I agree, but if this is all true, it might be good news for 996 owners who are not quite ready to change cars yet. I would assume that 996 values would hold up slightly better if the 997 is only a 'minor' upgrade.

    Don't get me wrong, I will still be mega disappointed with 320HP on the 'standard' car but you must always look at the bright side of things.......
