    Audi R8 info update

    As some of you know there will be more material info(PDF!!) in two weeks...
    Dimensions: 4.37m x 1.90m x 1.25m
    Power: 420hp
    3.6kg/hp
    Two seater!
    More powerfull version one year after the intro on the market(5.2L V10 520hp)
    Magnetic ride suspension
    and few other interesting things...
    0-100km/h in around 4.2s, Max 300km/h(4.2L)

    BTW, VIP invitation ticket for 29th presentation Neckarsulm is in my hands! Open days for public are 30th September and 1st of October!

    Here is are two pics...
    On the first one you can clearly see that R8 is using the same steering wheel which is option is new S3!
    Seats are more sporty version of TT seats...

    Your specs means the car will weigh 3,326 lbs (much lighter than 997TT)...

    Don't get me wrong, but from these pics I'm not too impressed by the R8's design. Maybe that will change when we will see the final car, but at the moment the front, rear and side don't fit together IMO.

    Actually I saw the final design and I like the car very much! It is not Italian car as Ferrari or Lamborghini so little bit of design difference is more then welcome IMO.
    You may not like it but, for me it is the best Da Silva's work yet...
    Some people will not like it but, its design will be(and is) pretty unique. Not like some other sportscar(and GTs) manufacturers that are bringinig to us more refined version of original design.
    In drive dynamics R8 will be excellent! And that is(together with unique look) something that counts for me...

    I see it is using the old Gallardo's wheels I'm sure Gallardo owners won't be too happy about this. Spend half the price and get the same V10 engine.

    For the moment I am not mad about the design... It looks a bit boring and lacks of any passion. That could change once I see the real thing (BTW I loved the TT).

    The good point and what keeps me interested is that it will be an Audi. Excellent built quality!

    Mike, only test mules are using Gallardo's wheels. R8 wheels are looking pretty good but, more on this in two weeks time... And yes, tire and wheels size is the same as on Gallardo.

    Yes I know the test mule is using Gallardo wheels, I was just stating that none the less. I know Audi won't bring out a car with the exact same wheel from another

    It will share much of the tech with the Gallardo, yes? Other than the fact that it will probably cost less, why buy an Audi instead of a Lambo?

    Hmm... It will share about around 20% of Gallardo's technical things(same wheel base, some of the underbody layout etc.) but, four wheel drive will be different as well as steering mechanics. So, to call it Gallardo for "poor" people is well, IMO strange.
    Audi is having enough(Le Mans, DTM) knowledge to build its own sportscar without lambo's help but, since Lambo is part of Audi why not use all the help?
    BTW, it is new design, NOT a refinement of over 30 years old basic design...
    Of course, you may not agree with me.

    Will this car be available in the US?

    Like Rossi, the problem I have with the styling is it appears the front was attached to the back without continuity. It almost like one person designed the front and another the back and stitched them together.

    Nevertheless, the car certainly has my attention. Unfortunately, it is a coupe.

    Nick, R8 will be available in USA as well! Ron could share few more details about USA market intro but, as far as I know it will be at almost the same time on all major markets.
    BTW Nick, there will be a Targa version of R8 from 2008!

    As far as I was told U.S. should get their first batch of R8 by April or May of '07.

    Well, if we're going to bring up design it's not exactly like the Gallardo is an evolution of something old, plus the Gallardo [to me] looks about a hundred times better than the Audi.

    I was NOT refering to Gallardo but, to something else...
    On the other hand you did not see final look of R8 so, give Audi little bit more credit.

    He was referring to the 911 turbo , which is not a 30 but a 40 year old basic design.

    Kreso , I really hope you can cancel your Turbo order because judging by your comments about the Porsche 911 and the Turbo in particular you won't like the car.

    My take on the R8 is that it will be a car which will do well in the first year but after that it will be a hard sell. It is not a very coherent design , it lacks unity.
    It is an ideal car for "the latest toy" lover. Once it looses its "new toy" status sales will drop IMO.
    Much different than a 911.

    I really do not know what to say to you... You are pretty close minded, aren't you? I was talking about 911 design, NOT about Turbo. And I had 997 Turbo for few days to try it and I like it a lot but, I am not blind to its shortcomings as you are, sorry to say that. I will keep it for few years at least so, what in the world gives you the right to tell me what to do. As I lawyer I never said to my clients that my opinion is the God like... This thread is about Audi R8, NOT about your beloved 997 Turbo. Porsche 997 Turbo comunists-how this sound to you? Not very nice? I agree! So, please let's keep our debates in friendly matter!
    I order 997 Turbo and I plan to keep this car. Here on rennteam we have three kinds od persons. 1. Die hard Porsche fans-for them only good cars are Porsche's(and you are probably in that group) 2. Porsche's haters-hate all Porsche's(and like cars that I personally do not like) 3. Normal Sportscars enthusiasts-like all Porsche's, Ferrari's, Lambo's etc. but, are not blind to each model shortcomings( I think that I belong on that group)
    I respect your posts and opinion but, your comment was little bit too arogant...

    That is quite a temperamental reply.
    Where did I tell you what to do ? In an earlier post somewhere you mentioned something of not knowing what to do with the Turbo. Your subtle remark about the old design and some other remarks made me too believe you would not like the car. That is all I said. Nothing more , nothing less. For the record , I drive at the moment more than only Porsche , I have a BMW645CI and even a Lotus Esprit V8, a car which many find old and not even worth mentioning.
    So I consider myself in the nr 3 category if you really must have categories.
    Anyway , I am happy you like the Turbo and will keep it. Maybe some day we will meet and have a laugh about this small encounter on the net.

    If you live in Germany we can meet in late September. I will be on R8 presentation. About sportscars in general, I like that you belong in group No.3 because there are far too many No.1 and No.2 persons recently on rennteam IMO.
    BTW, I was talking about exterior design of 911 as 40 years refinement. Net is the strange place... And I still think that 997 Turbo is the best all-around sportscar on the market currently. Just not the most thrilling one, IMO.
    On the other hand I expect very much from R8! With assistance of Slovenian camera( ) men we will do comparison between R8 and 997 Turbo sometimes next summer...

    Yes , I can be there , however , I just read you will be there on the VIP day. I am not a VIP so how do we solve it ? BTW , I am 1/4 Slovenian , I have been to Slovenia when I was a kid , loooong time ago. Would love to go there some day.

    I agree wholeheartedly with the 1, 2, 3 categorization. Hopefully, you'll really enjoy the R8. I know my camera will .
