    Use of air compressor for blowing off car

    I recently had my black BMW detailed and my detailer recommended the use of an air compressor to blow small amounts of dust off of he car, especially before putting the cover on it to prevent scratching. I have also wondered if after washing it if it would be OK to blow some of the water off of the vehicle before drying. I guess I am just trying to justify the purchase of that air compressor at Lowe's. Any thoughts?

    Some people have mentioned using a leaf blower to dry their car...

    Motorcycle dryers. Air is filtered. Leaf blowers can blow dirt and oil on the car.

    CA is an essential tool for the non-totally-amateur garage. There are lots of uses for it. Unless you are going to be driving spikes all day on a house framing project, or using an impact wrench on a hundred tires, or using an air-driven sander, you don't need a really big one either.

    Because the stream is so narrow (yet powerful) blowing off recesses of the car works well with CA but on large even areas it fails. Maybe a leaf blower would work better on large areas. Great on rotors, calipers, hub bolts.

    I suppose if the tank isn't filtered you might blow a highvelocity piece of dust or rust out of the nozzle (or from the air around outside of the nozzle), as if it were a bullet. For that reason NEVER blow air onto your face or aim at someone.

    It's a great tool which you'll find new uses for which you can't live without.

    Don't use a compressor or a leaf blower. Metro Vac N Blo makes vaccuum/ Blower unit's specifically designed to blow off water on cars. I have the 4hp vaccuum/ blower attached to the wall in my gararge that I use to blow out water from lamps and body panels after I dry my cars/ bikes. All you do is switch the hose from one end to the other and remove the vacuum bag in order to blow warm air. It works fantastic, EXTREMELY Convenient.

    I like the wall mount unit because the 20feet of hose allows me to keep the unit plugged into the wall and only have to pull the hose out to the car on the driveway w/ out having to pull the unit around. Also came w/ all different attachments for different vacuum & blow jobs - hee,hee. I ordered mine from griots and it came w/ a hose holder. Made my life tons easier.
