    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

    RC:

    OK, guys...here are the rumors:

Touring package is coming...no rear wing, rear seats(!), rear diffusor, some minor optical changes.

Available starting September 2017... (at least in Germany).

Also interesting: 991.2 GT3 will be produced until end of July 2018(!).

In September 2018, the 991.2 GT3 RS is supposed to follow!

There is more: That special edition 991.2 Turbo S model Whoopsy mentioned will be limited to 500 cars, maybe even less. Car gets around 610 hp, a carbon roof and some other goodies! Weight is a bit lower than on current Turbo S.

Wow, rear wing delete AND rear seats on a GT3? That's going to be a homerun... and for who ever can get their hands on one

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

I am still a little bit skeptical because I imagine how diehard GT3 fans will start to protest and even mock this touring package but apparently Porsche decided to offer customers what they want, something we cannot really argue about.

Maybe Porsche should have named this car 911 GT3 R or T, so diehard GT3 fans don't get upset.

I have no information about the chassis setup but I could imagine that instead of semi-slicks, street tires are standard.

Well the RS needs to go first, it'll be up for sale from next week. But I'm on track for a 991.2 GT3, I have a slot and at least the promise to get a PTS, so let's see what the next few weeks/months bring. Before the reviews I considered the AMG GT R an option, but I just can't pass on this, what an engine...

Nice to hear you're in the market for one, Frank - and PTS. Probably the same dealer I talked to wink

Wouldn't budge on price, though, and the EUR rebate is a lot less now. These together make the new one a lot more expensive than my .1 was :-(

He said he had a stack of orders contingent on a no-wing option too. My guess is they'll up production numbers at some point. Makes zero sense to leave orders unfulfilled.

At the risk of being uncool I have already informed my dealer that I am in for the Touring Package if it becomes a reality.  I believe it will suit all my needs and desires (they are one and the same, right?) in a modern 911. I've been very satisfied w/ the lichtgrun color so I may either try for it or chartreuse (226) if I can secure a PTS build.  The 2018 production run is encouraging.

Same here. As I stoped tracking street cars I want to have a car which I can use for road fun, drifting and the occasional Sunday morning blast. If only I could get PTS!

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

PTS? If you can't get it, get a professional wrap in any color you desire. If done well, it is difficult to tell the difference.

More important is to secure a car because in some regions, the GT3 is basically sold out.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

They wont add a Touring package if the car would be sold out. Same story as it was with the RS, first they made you bend over and at the end they have been producing as many as they could.

I agree that PTS is worthless without an allocation, so that has to be a priority.  However my dealer did come back to me months after the RS was supposed to have ceased production and offered me an  open allocation (above MSRP).  If the Touring Package does become a fact it would suggest that Porsche will produce more cars than the shortage of allocations at this early time suggests. Also Porsche typically offers more options toward the end of the line than at the beginning.  As with all things in life, timing is everything.

Im sure I get an allocation, I also expressed my interest a couple of months ago and having bought a 3 GT Cars within the last 6 years in Switzerland should help a small bit too.

To me, it is not a GT3 with no wing and having rear seats.  A great car for sure, but GT3 has to be a motorsports oriented product.

What is the point of the 911R again...?

Not entirely.  The Porsche 915 gearbox (on 911's from 72-86) was synchromesh, but you still have to double-clutch most of them, as though it has no synchros.  Still requires some skill Smiley

Any idea when would the touring package be announced?

My car is scheduled for August production - would be nice to know what the touring package entails before my specs are locked-in......

This is stressful. I'm glad I'm lucky enough to order one, but stressful nevertheless!

I asked Lars (the driver that did the Ring time with the 991.2 GT3) the same question: It has noticeable more torque but also a slightly different character and a raspier sound - if that makes any sense. You really could see how proud he was for the car. (Just to get the context: I was on site when he arrived and had a good chat with this really nice guy for 10 minutes. We where alone all time so no PAG officials or other disturbing elements.)

I will not switch to GT3 but every time I watch a video with it I'm ready to press the order button. I think Porsche has hit a home run with the 991.2GT3.

I have noticed the rapier sound on the videos . Nice .  I will probably not pull the trigger as I would miss my RS and there is anyway always something better that comes, but that engine is very tempting . VERY ! I would also probably take it in manual for a nice change .

i would not swap the RS for the GT3. the wide body shell and the looks of the RS can't be beat. a little more torque, so what....take the GT2RS if you really want more torque.
