So far on the AMV8 there has not been any reoccuring problems across the range. just a few isolated issues...which normally get resolved.

Apparently Aston Martins do well in Italy. 
Maybe Italian owners and Italian mechanics are more simpatico with Astons and exotic cars in general?
Before all of the electronics used on cars, tuning and caring for them involved a lot of talent and listening to the engines carefully. I used to watch guys at a shop tune up Lambos and Ferraris. The final setting for the carbs and
timing was a art then as it was all mechanical. The best mechanics there were from Italy and the cars they tuned always had a certain audio edge to them and ran the fastest.
Whatever the reason for positive Aston ownership in Italy is, you have to be a very clever fellow in the homeland of Ferrari to say I am going to buy a a new Aston DB9.

I think it's just because Italian customers have much lower reliability standards, as they are used to Fiat / Ferrari reliability (or lack thereof).

A good friend of mine has the DB9 ( I have the AMV8) His car is constantly in the shop. But I think he exaggerates things. He thinks he should have a perfect car for the price that he's paid. The thing is, he also has a Rolls that's in the shop. Not as often as the Aston , but that is because he doesn't drive it as much. It turn's out that his daily driver is a mercedes ML.
My AMV8 has had isolated issues but the engine is basically a Jaguar 4.2 bored out to 4.3 so there really hasn't been too many issues. Funny thing is, I've just decided to replace it, after less than a year of ownership for the Jaguar XKR coming in December. I NEED the back seat and I don't want to own a second car anymore (or third as my wife has a car as well) So I'll be trading in my 530i.
If reliability is a big concern because like me you don't want to maintain a second car, get the new XK. I don't think you'll regret it.
