    Full Redesign Expected in 2010?

From Edmunds Inside Line (link to web page):

    Quote:
There's a refresh on the way for the 2008 Porsche Cayenne, but with our latest photo illustrations you can see what's in store for the full redesign expected in 2010. The drawings were penned after consulting with sources close to Porsche's Weissach design center.

The 2010 Porsche Cayenne will be the first full redesign of the surprisingly popular German sport-utility and, according to our sources, the styling direction will lean toward a sleeker, less utilitarian shape. To get that look, the next-generation Cayenne will feature a more steeply raked windshield, shorter greenhouse and blacked-out B- and C-pillars. The rear end will look more like Infiniti's FX45 sport-ute thanks to gentle curves in place of the current Cayenne's heavy-looking, upright D-pillars.

Passenger space inside won't increase much, but Porsche has to make sure this Cayenne offers some kind of packaging advantage over the Panamera sedan that will debut in 2009. Although the Panamera is expected to be a low slung 4-door "coupe," it will use the same engines as the Cayenne and may very well offer all-wheel drive as well. The Cayenne's higher seating position and extra cargo room might still draw SUV lovers, but it will no longer be the only Porsche for those looking for a more spacious 911.

Re: Full Redesign Expected in 2010?

Wow... this is actually looking good, and I would not mourn too much if they would build something like this!

Re: Full Redesign Expected in 2010?

Yes, that's how the Cayenne should look!

Re: Full Redesign Expected in 2010?

    Lokks more like the Panamara

Re: Full Redesign Expected in 2010?

    Wow!! thanks Gary.

I love it, hope this will be the look.

Re: Full Redesign Expected in 2010?

The first Cayenne should've looked like this.

This is just a sketch, the real thing can look much different. Remember what the original Cayenne sketches looked like?

Re: Full Redesign Expected in 2010?

    Cool sketches Gary Thanks!
Looks more like a Sedan than a SUV though.
Ground clearance seems limited for people who actually will want to use it properly

    Right

... and those wheels! ... I don't think those would last long in the places I drive. Even on some of the paved roads I drive. How much sidewall is on those tires, 1-2 inches?

Re: Full Redesign Expected in 2010?

    Looks very nice indeed.
...here is a ps'd image I found on google the other day, came to mind after reading this thread. Although not the most accurate job, it somewhat resembles the drawing.

Re: Full Redesign Expected in 2010?

It just need more agressive headlights and everything will be perfect

I know I'm a broken record on this, but, unless the appearance belies its capabilities, this seems to be the RFFJUSW (Really Friggin' Fast Jacked-Up Station Wagon) that many of the owner-critics of the Cayenne apparently desire, instead of the SUV that the Cayenne truly is. From a marketing standpoint, this may be brilliant, but I can't say I like it. I'd rather they leave us with a real SUV and just make a hatchback version of the Panamera, if that's what so many folks want.

Re: Full Redesign Expected in 2010?

    I really love this draws

Re: Full Redesign Expected in 2010?

Looks like a Porsche-fied Dodge Magnum to me. As a previous Cayenne Turbo owner, I'd be bummed if they removed the Cayenne's off-roading capabilites. Maybe this is merely the Panamera wagon?

Re: Full Redesign Expected in 2010?

    from the front...

Re: Full Redesign Expected in 2010?

Yes, most cars have four wheels, windows, mirrors and a roof

Re: Full Redesign Expected in 2010?

Very nice drawings, I am really impressed.

Everyone seems to like it - but here is the funny thing.

To me, this looks like a 'body kitted' car more than anything else. The huge rims, the exagerated intakes, the sharp, evil looking edges etc.

If that was a RinSpeed - people would be up in arms about how ugly it was.

I try not to get too up in arms about appearances, especially as regards preliminary drawings such as these. I prefer to reserve my ill temper for what this design might mean to overall function. However, if you are starting a poll, record my vote as "quite possibly the ugliest artist's rendering of a potential Porsche I've ever seen." You could, of course, make it worse, and some people will. Add a Techart Magnum front end to it and it would become positively frightening.

Strictly a judgment call, and coming from someone who rather likes the current Cayenne and, therefore, seems to be among the minority on this board. But, if this thing comes out anything like the drawing, maybe it will slow the depreciation for all us current Cayenne owners. On the other hand, if P makes it and enough people buy it, maybe P will drop the price of their sports cars enough for me to justify buying another P-car.

    Hey, I can dream, can't I?

As much as we'd all love to be car designers, think about trying to please just the people on this board, - much less the larger buying public. Personally, I'm a much better critic than a designer.

Re: Full Redesign Expected in 2010?

Sigs, anyone who is on here - is more than likely an existing Cayenne Customer or a Potential Customer.

You are certainly NOT in the minority with your positive opinions of the existing vehicle.

I mean seriously, what kind of moron would buy an expensive SUV that they don't even like the look of! Give me a break!

Re: Full Redesign Expected in 2010?

    Mish,

Thanks for the support. I guess I didn't say that quite right. But, I have to say that I am more than a little surprised at the number (though they may well be the minority here, as you suggest) of folks on this and other forums who shelled out large amounts of money for a Cayenne, but are very vocal critics of the looks of it. Perhaps these sorts of boards and discussions tend to make folks seem more critical than they really are. Personally, I buy vehicles for their function. Appearance is almost never a major consideration for me, - though it could certainly be a deal breaker if I truly considered the thing "ugly." On the whole, though, I'm just glad there isn't a forum out there for my cars to critique MY appearance.

Re: Full Redesign Expected in 2010?

The facelift is not even here yet and people are already talking about the new full redesign. The sketch does look nice, but not optimistic that the real thing will look like that?
