    bvineyards:

how is that safe at 150 mph +?

Good question. In Germany, if you have an accident with such an illegally modded (Porsche never supports this!!!) car, you are in huge poo poo. Even worse if it happens at higher speeds where the negative effect is obvious.

I guess some people are immune to common sense or some basic understanding of aerodynamics and/or of driving skills (no skilled driver would risk that, unless he is mentally challenged Smiley).

I have been on a track where someone was testing this setting on a yellow GT3 RS ( I did post the photos and details at the time ) .  It was good for speed limited roads, as you can't feel any difference when driving ip to 120 km/h  ( I guess that guy only cruses through Zurich where the picture was taken )    but when you went above 150 km/h it started to feel unstable .

A dealer I talked to had driven an R on the Autobahn at fairly high speeds and he reckoned it was definitely much more sketchy than the GT3.

I have to admit that I found the GT4 to be a little scary at high autobahn speeds too (I only changed to high downforce mode when I got home - where it was not needed Smiley)...

I wonder if that has more to do with a more track oriented alignment and fat tires, which could make the car wander more.  When I was in Germany last, granted I only did about 138 mph in an Audi TT, but it was stable enough when the road was straight.

Possible - and I think my alignment was out of spec too (had that corrected with track alignment and parts once home).

Was only scary above 260kph (160mph)

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

But didn't the R had a special diffuser to compensate the loss of the wing?

It might be dangerous taking the wing off, but I doubt that these owners go +160mph without their wings.

Oh, the irony is rich!  One has read many, many posts of this thread claiming that those who want a 911 GT3 with an manual are troglodytes because the car with the PDK is infinitely quicker around the race course, now several of those same individuals are talking up the touring package, which hampers aerodynamic efficiency for the race course...

    Agree on the colour.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

I think that Saffron color is a multi-stage process that has a high price.  Not PTS, just a fancier optional premium color.

"Reserved for the 911 is four-coat paint in Saffron Yellow Metallic with intermediate sanding. This paint creates a particularly impression of depth. "

And that car is unstable at high speed.

Above 270km/hr the rear gets light and moves around a lot.

It is stable up to around 250km/hr.

I tried on the autobahn already.

I wouldn't want to do a lane change at 300km/despite what AP publicly said. That's a death wish to do such a move at that speed.

Then, most likely, this paint option would also have a higher insurance premium associated with it, since matching of panels are much more difficult.  One went through this with pearl white many years ago.

The problem is that the 991 R is not just a GT3 without a rear wing, aerodynamics have been "adapted" to the wing-less design/setup. The ducktail doesn't help much on the GT3 RS...also I do not think it looks good (but I've never been a friend of ducktails). I think a retractable Carrera wing would benefit the GT3 RS more than a ducktail but I could be wrong.

Sure, but that diffusor doesn't make up for all the downforce lost from the wing removal - hence it's still disadvantaged.

According to the latest rumor the reason why the touring package is (still?) not available.

After much agonizing I decided to go with the black wheels and guard red wheel stripe. The overall look suits the car better especially with the stripe. Without the stripe and only black wheels the car look like it is floating and doesn't come together.

There was a reason why Porsche decided to show the car in GR with the black wheels and GR stripe. I see it now and agree.
