I had a dealer demonstrator for a day before i placed my own 987 order. That car had the sports adaptive seats - after no more than two hours driving i was in agony, with lower back ache. I took the car for a long drive on some of my favourite roads (which just so happen to be the ones the UK magazines regularly use for road tests) which meant at times i was pushing the car somewhat
. I tried relaxing the side bolsters for 30 minutes, then tried tightening them but i couldn't get comfy at all. I'm not the smallest of guys (6'1", 190 lbs). I jumped straight back into my 986 at the end of that day (sports seats) and drove home, 40 minutes, with no issue.
I've driven 600 miles in a single day in the sports seats of my current 987S with no aches or pains. I've also driven the same roads that i tried in the demonstrator in my own car (at even higher speeds) on several occassions and again had no problem.
Perhaps the adaptive seats are just better suited to smaller people
.
There is also the issue in the UK that sports seats are $470 option, adaptive seats are $2800
. Its not a popular option over here, even on the 997 - i guess due to the price differential.
My advice - spend a good few hours with a car with adaptive seats, on your favourite roads, if you are considering them.
