    Forum Newbie - Just ordered '07 911 S

I've been lurking for a few weeks, while I made up my mind about whether to keep my'03 M5, or buy a 911 / 911 S.

Well this weekend, I finally decided to put a downpayment on an October build 911 S.

Took my 2 hours to decide on the color combination. Didn't want to get a real common color, nor did I want to get a color I always got. After a series of a/b comparisons, I finally went with the most common combination of Artic Silver and black full-leather interior. I really wanted to like one of the less common colors, but as I walked around the dealer, the cars that "popped" out to my eyes were the artic silver cars.

Here is my option list. Fairly minimal.
    Colored crests in wheels
    Bose Stereo
    Sport Chrono
    Full-leather
    Heated seats
Floor Mats (yes - i had to pay for these).

I did get what I think was a good deal. I'm sure other folks have paid less but given the starting price, I'm pleased.

Now just have to sell the M5 while I wait patiently until November for delivery.

    Re: Forum Newbie - Just ordered '07 911 S

I hope you are following the facelift threads. If 2007 will be a short run as some sources say that means around may 2007, we will have the facelifted version as a 2008 model. November delivery is pretty close. Nonetheless if you do not mind enjoy your new car and good luck with the wait:)

    Re: Forum Newbie - Just ordered '07 911 S

The most important option is PSE. I just installed it a few days ago and regret not ordering it with the car.

    Re: Forum Newbie - Just ordered '07 911 S

I agree. Ditch the BOSE if it helps with the cost a bit. The BOSE has been a bit of a disappointment for me to the extent I should have listened to my own gut feeling. I won't have BOSE in my house, so why in my car. However, the speakers/amp are not something I listened to before I purchased so I cannot comment on the standard. If you get the chance, try and compare them. Congratulations of your order.

    Re: Forum Newbie - Just ordered '07 911 S

I've never been a sport exhaust kinda guy. OK on a '68 Camaro, but other than that I leave stock.

And while I'm sure I could get a better aftermarket radio, I'll take the best Porsche can offer, and that's the Bose. Just to keep it more stock.

    Good thinking

    Re: Forum Newbie - Just ordered '07 911 S

IMHO, the 997 is extremely noisy on the road. So a Bose will not be able to deliver at its potential.

The stock exhaust is a joke. Absolutely useless and takes away so much of a great car. The PSE will make the car come to life. You can turn it on/off as you please.

I hope people don't criticize me, but I feel that the car gained a few HP after installing PSE. My OPC assures me that a 'free-flowing' exhaust will add 12-15 HP. Don't shoor the messenger

I'll be ordering my new 997 over the next few months (a Targa4S) and have been watching the pricing threads. From what I've understood, people are getting small discounts for cars that are on the lot, but pretty much paying MSRP for ordered cars. So, without getting too personal, can you share your percent discount?

Just under 8% off (base + options).

    Re: Forum Newbie - Just ordered '07 911 S

On an Oct '05 order for a C2 Coupe with Jan '06 delivery I got 4%.

    Re: Forum Newbie - Just ordered '07 911 S

I would also get the PSE. They sound like a Pcar should.

    Re: Forum Newbie - Just ordered '07 911 S

Thanks for the opinions, but I didn't order PSE and am not planning on adding it.

I dunno how you guys get discount, we get diddly squat in the UK, perhaps a set of mats free. 8% off a Pounds70k car is Pounds5.6k. That is awesome.

    Re: Forum Newbie - Just ordered '07 911 S

6%, ordered in May. Left Germany last week.

    Re: Forum Newbie - Just ordered '07 911 S

I got 6% off on my special order when the 997's were just released and hot hot hot, October '04. I told the dealer that if he took my offer and my deposit check, we could both save ourselves a ton of time and aggrevation, and order a car that day, and they agreed LOL!!

I don't buy the "the car is so noisy, that the Bose can't deliver to its potential" argument. So instead you opt to save a piddly amount of money and get the YET CRAPPIER stereo? It sounds more like a boycott based on principle than a value-given for value-received argument. Like a kid who's pissed because mom cooked liver for dinner, so he's going to stomp up to his room hungry and chew on the remnants of a stale bag of chips left under his bed.

Get the Bose. $900 bucks is worth it to have an "o.k." stereo, as opposed to an even tin-can-ier stereo. You're ordering a car, not making a statement.

I've still not heard a car with the PSE. PSE wasn't available back when I ordered. I'm with you, I don't want anything obnoxious, unless it's got 8-cylinders and requires leaded fuel. But I've really got to get behind the wheel of a PSE car to make my own opinion. I'm pretty certain that if I ordered a car today, I'd equip it with PSE. But I like the sound my S makes at full song as well, it's all good.

    Re: Forum Newbie - Just ordered '07 911 S

The base sound system is so bad, it's worth the Bose money even if it doesn't sound audiophile at the end. In any event, with a Cabrio you need speakers in the headrests or a Bose noise-reduction headphone to really make it sound good. The Bose has the big sub and more wattage, which has to help.

    Re: Forum Newbie - Just ordered '07 911 S

the premium bose is standard down under. I think it's actually very nice with deep tight bass and fairly good mid-range. I've got PSE on mine and unless I'm revving past 6000rpms, music still sounds "clear". And if I was to pay extra for the premium I would, now that I've lived with it for 3 months. the standard stereo in my previous '01 986 Box was crappy to say the least, to the extent I almost never turned it on except for the news.

    Re: Forum Newbie - Just ordered '07 911 S

You got free mats! You must have been on the advanced negotiation skills course I got nothing. I think the US dealers are also prepared to take none-Porsche trade-ins, and offer good rates on wheel and tyre insurance.

Car manufacturers used to refer to the UK as treasure island because of the restrictive trade practices here, most of these have now been eliminated but apparently some remain unchallenged. It helps keep residual values high but I'd rather have a reduced up-front price.

We're in a minority but I also elected to leave the PSE box unticked. My priority was to add those items that I might want down the line that are impossible/difficult/costly to retrofit.

I drove a car with PSE during my PDE day and although it did sound good I didn't regret leaving it off my list.

    Re: Forum Newbie - Just ordered '07 911 S

I got the PSE and would never order without it.

Got the Bose as well but regret it as I never have radio on as I prefer to listen to the PSE.

    Re: Forum Newbie - Just ordered '07 911 S

What is obvious to me reading this thread is that this PSE/BOSE stereo issue is one of personal taste. Some people prefer to hear the sound of the engine more prominently because this is what turns them on and others, like me (at least for now), am happy with my current non PSE model and wanted the best stereo offered which is the BOSE (which can be more greatly appreciated without the loudness of the PSE). This is why PSE is an option versus making it standard equipment--I would bet more Carreras are sold without PSE than with (if anyone has any other stat, post it). And it is something that I would imagine would be relatively easy to retrofit down the road if a person decides he wants a change. Does anyone know what a dealer would charge for this mod?

Approx $300 to $1000, depending on the dealer.

69bossnine: with all respect, but you can't compare Bose and PSE in terms of prioroty when you don't know what PSE sounds like. Go immediately to a Porsche showroom and listen for yourself.
