On the 997 forum someone posted a link to a guys website who had a very unique method of breaking in the engine. He suggested that within the firs 20 miles on the car one should do 3rd or 4th gear pulls to about 5000rpm and then simply let off the throttle and let the engine compression slow the car back down. His theory was that this "seated" the piston rings gauranteeing no leakdown or oil/fuel contamination. He has done this to hundreds of cars and motorcycles (both race and street) and swares by this method. He also posted many pictures of pistons that underwent factory recommended break in vs. his method. The difference was astonishing. He highly recomended an early oil change for the reasons I already mentioned. Maybe someone could find that thread.
