Automatic Climate Control- A waste in a Cabrio?

I am trying to decide if having ACC in a Boxster is a waste of money. I will almost always have the top down. The dealer thinks it's a must have.

Re: Automatic Climate Control- A waste in a Cabrio?

I have it in mine and quite like it although, a) I live in the uk and its not quite Califorinia so the top stays up a bit more! and b) have not had the standard heating so cant compare.

Like the fact you just dial in the temp and it keeps it right there..

Dealer told me this was a "must have" option as well! Dont believe them, go give it a try yourself in one of the demos

Re: Automatic Climate Control- A waste in a Cabrio?

I have AAC and am always adjusting the set temperature so for my use its a waste of money. Opinions are split in the UK, OPCs like it (PoundsPoundsPoundsPounds) but there are lots of cars with the normal air con.

Re: Automatic Climate Control- A waste in a Cabrio?

I never found it useful in the boxster.
    Roof down it's completely useless...
    Isn't standard now on 987?

Re: Automatic Climate Control- A waste in a Cabrio?

Roof down it's completely useless ???
Not at all when it's more than 30*C outside !

I would have never bought my car without it !

Re: Automatic Climate Control- A waste in a Cabrio?

Indeed, completely useless, what you do is you override the automatic control to make it full speed. not saying AC is useless, but that the automatism thereof is.

Re: Automatic Climate Control- A waste in a Cabrio?

I've never not had it, so i dont know really, but it seems useful to me, i rarely touch it and it keeps me warm when i need to be and cool when i need to be. It boosts the fans right up when it needs to so i have hardly ever had to do that myself.

Re: Automatic Climate Control- A waste in a Cabrio?

A complete must! I use it every day, keeps you just right

Re: Automatic Climate Control- A waste in a Cabrio?

When the top is up, it is priceless. It's a simple $500 option.

I don't have it mine, and had it in the 987 loaner I had for 2 months. Complete waste of money here in Northern California IMHO. Take the $500 and check the box for the sport steering wheel or sport chairs.

Re: Automatic Climate Control- A waste in a Cabrio?

I have it on mine and find it useful here in the northeast US.

Nope I don't override at all, therefore it is NOT useless at all !

Re: Automatic Climate Control- A waste in a Cabrio?

Another California vote for useless. I have standard controls in the 987 S and climate control in my SLK350. I drive almost exclusively top down and think climate control with the top down makes no sense whatsoever, theoretically or in a practical sense.

Re: Automatic Climate Control- A waste in a Cabrio?

I don't have it on the Boxster (but do on my truck), and personally can't say that I view it as something the car is missing. As can be seen from the other responses, it really comes down to personal preference--I don't have a problem just adjusting the temp/fan settings to suit my comfort level.

I The Complete waste of money here in Northern California IMHO. Take the $500 and check the box for the sport steering wheel or sport chairs.

You hit the nail on the head. I just changed my order. Thanks.

Good choice. Now comes the hard part, the wait. But you will survive. Oh, and I believe at this point you are obligated to share with us your complete spec.
If your interested PM me and I can direct you to several nice orginizations for Porsche/Boxster folks here in the Bay Area.

I had 4 cars with AAC and the one in the Boxster is the found I think less useful, in fact, a pointless option..but this thread proves its really a matter of taste. You are happy with that option, cool for you

Re: Automatic Climate Control- A waste in a Cabrio?

Here in NYC - a totally necessary option, especially those times when the top is up...and because its NYC, it's a frequent occurance

Agree. Waste of money. I'm not at all sorry I didn't get it in my 987S. Spring for some small options that might be more useful. The dealer will tell you a lot of things are a must (like paying close to MSRP, for example )

Re: Automatic Climate Control- A waste in a Cabrio?

My climate control is my finger on the switch, same as it's been for 40 years. Great price, always works. Same with the mirror dimmer (flip the tab) and rain sensor (turn on the wipers).

Ok here is the currant spec list.

    Atlas with black and black
    PASM
    Sport Adpt Seating
    Sport Chrono
    Turbo Wheels
Manual gear box (Sport shifter is no longer available)
    Heated Seats
    Bose
    Sport Leather Wheel
    November Delivery
I am not sure how much longer that I can change things but I am still a little unsure about seats.
