RC, do you mind giving me your 997tt vs. 997GT3 opinion?

Please help me out here. I'm asking you because you make a lot of sense.
My friend is going from a 993 turbo to either GT3 or Turbo both 997. The GT3 seems better in most ways but perhaps less relaiable and les comfortable. Is it comfortable enough the GT3? compared to a 993?. I know you were choosing between the two so i'd love your opinion. Also he wont track it very much either. The GT3 just looks nicer imho and looks more exciting. Also whats the price difference once you got optionns on both of them Should we even consider the GT3

also RC, considering were not tracking the car, should he even consider the PCCBs, dont they only make a difference on track driving.
Also does the GT3 now have all the stablitity programs that the turbo has. I remember you commenting a year ago that the GT3 lacks some of the computers or control systems of the turbo for traction for example.
    Thanks

Re: RC, do you mind giving me your 997tt vs. 997GT3 opinion?

If I remember correctly RC's on vacation at the moment buddy...

BTW I really doubt that the GT3 will be less reliable than the Turbo in any way whatsoever...
If your buddy's not going to track the car often, he should go for the Turbo... It's better to live with everyday(ie. more comfortable, more practical and has a higher groung clearance) and on a real road in real conditions it should be comfortably faster than the GT3.

GT3 is the more visceral car though. More organic and the driving experience is better. Much better sounding too.

Some people here have claimed that the car, equipped with PCCBs has better steering feel, if your friend values that.

The 997 GT3 is a very nice sportscar and I would definetely order it with PCCB because it is a great brake system and has been improved a lot over the past years.
Speaking of emotions, the 997 GT3 is the more appealing car, no doubt about it. The 997 Turbo lacks the certain engine/exhaust sound which is in my opinion needed to create a certain drive feel. I will definetely mention this in our review, I just didn't have time to finish it since I have a real life job, two little kids and I've been on vacation too for the past two weeks. Sorry.

The GT3 should be a pretty reliable car, I don't see any problems here. Regarding ride comfort, I think that PASM has brought a real improvement regarding ride comfort, so no problem here either.

The 997 Turbo is always more expensive compared to the GT3, no matter what options you choose. I paid 155000 Euro for mine, a fully equipped GT3 would have costed me around 125000 Euro, 30000 Euro less. I think this ain't much different in the US.

From a certain point of view, the 997 GT3 is the best value right now in Porsche's model line. Unfortunately Porsche had or still has problems with deliveries, so it may take a while until a larger number of cars make it to customers.

The 997 Turbo is a different beast, the best allround sportscar on this planet but it is not necessarily the perfect Porsche. The lack of a proper engine/exhaust sound is for me as a sportscar addict very frustrating. A part of the fun was enjoying the engine/exhaust sound, now the fun seems to be to enjoy the nice BOSE system. I'm not sure this is what I want.

Anyway: both, the 997 Turbo and the 997 GT3 are a lot of fun to drive, he can't go wrong with his choice, no matter which one he chooses. I would choose the 997 Turbo again if I would get the chance to make my decision again but like I said before, I'm not 100% happy with my 997 Turbo and I'll point out the little flaws in our review, hopefully soon.

Re: RC, do you mind giving me your 997tt vs. 997GT3 opinion?

Unless he is fairly serious about tracking the car, the TT will likely be the better choice. The GT3's stiffer suspension can get a bit tiring, but if he is a real enthusiast, he might not mind it. For me the bigger drawback is the need to rev the GT3 fairly high in order to appreciate fully its performance. The TT delivers lots of punch from 2000RPM and on. In daily driving its much more pleasant to have lots of torque available nearly all the time and not need to wind out the engine to make the car perform. On a track where you are constantly trying to keep the revs up and push the car to the max this is not an issue--around town you start to feel like a jerk driving that way.

On the PCCB issue, I would go for them. I have found their feel and responsiveess to be a noticeable improvement over the steel brakes that I had on my 996tt and 997S. I test drove a 997TT with the steel brakes and found them fine but the PCCBs on my 997TT are crisper. I also think the lower unsprung weight does make a difference in handling/steering feel. Its also nice to not have to deal with brake dust

RC is right, the GT3 is a good value given its performance. It is a good choice if it is not your daily driver but more of a weekend, "special drives" trackday kind of car. It doesn't work for me because I use the 997TT as a DD and will be putting over 12K miles on each year in a wide range of conditions. The 997TT offers a terrificly flexible approach--its ready to offer crisp sports car performance when needed and, if your leave the sport button disengaged, its fairly GT like and comfortable. I often find myself switching between the two modes on a single trip. When the road opens up or gets twisty, push sport, when you are in residential areas or bumpy patches leave it off. No other car I know of offers that. What it means for the driver is that you always have the an optimal driving experience available. To me, that makes the "premium" worth it:!
