    DB9 cracked fender... Worth buying?

    I am looking at a DB9 that has a 0.5 inch crack on the front fender, under the front headlight. Aston's site mentions aluminium panels.

    The rosk is the crack gets bigger over time, thus resulting in not only expensive repair but also a depreciated car because of paint work.

    Worth buying?

    How badly do you want the car... Of course there will be some depreciation but are they giving some sort of better price 'cause of the crack???

    The price is interesting, my concern is the crack getting bigger. They are putting a clear bra on the car...

    The bra will probably help save the crack from gettin any bigger for now, but what about the long term. I'm sure the dealer should be willing to sort out some agreement bout having the fender repaired or even replaced before you buy the car as it's not everyday that someone actually comes along that is interested in getting a Aston Martin. They'll probably get a nice profit either way...

    If you do go for the car better have it repaired properly beforehand cause it will just get bigger as you said, clear bra or not...

    Talked to an Aston repair shop.

    Worst case: chassis damage created a stress point. Even a new fender will crack eventually.

    But if there was no accident, repair will be fine except for some depreciation because of a repainted fender...

    I would find out if the chassis has been damaged at all. If not, it sounds like a relatively simple repair, but I would want some reassurance that it will not recrack with time or vibration.

    If Aston uses similar chassis techniques as the Lotus Elise (aluminum chassis bonded together with epoxy), then the chassis cannot usually be repaired. This may be the case, as Lotus engineering was involved in the unibody/frames.

    Thanks for all the help, he claims the car is sold. That relieves me in some way. Maybe I was getting too smart, I will never know.

    On a side note, the DB9 Volante is an awsome car, different philosophy than Porsche but amazing. The 997TT is a much better buy though, only I can't get over the design and no PDK...
