    Got my TT... cupholder question

I picked up my new 997TT in California this weekend and drove it to Boston, I absolutely love it. (It's black on Arctic Silver, I'll post pics after I wash it up a bit). My question is for another 997TT owner... could you take a close-up picture of your cupholder while it's folded up? I'm having a problem where I think the plastic facade is drooping down a little bit, and I want to make sure I'm not just losing my mind. Thanks.

Re: Got my TT... cupholder question

    Congrats!

Re: Got my TT... cupholder question

How was the drive- comfort, exhaust sound, general experience?

Re: Got my TT... cupholder question

That's one way to deal with the break in 2000 miles quickly!

I'll post a pic of mine cup holder when its light tomorrow, but it doesn't appear to droop to me.

Re: Got my TT... cupholder question

Congrats on the new TT, I can't wait...........

Re: Got my TT... cupholder question

Did you end up paying California sales tax? That was one reason I decided not to buy from a CA dealer. If they ship, then you don't have to pay CA tax (still have to pay your state.)

Re: Got my TT... cupholder question

Well, this is my first Porsche (and in fact, my first sports car), so it's hard to compare it to anything else. However, I'm blown away by every aspect of the vehicle. It was very comfortable despite clocking 10 hour days in it; and even with only the default instrument finishes, the interior has a very rich feel to it. The exhaust noise is very muscular but also refined; it's loud enough to turn the heads off onlookers, but not enough to be annoying. I understand now what 'Turbo lag' means, it can take the car a moment to respond to rapid throttling. However, this is only really noticable if you're trying to floor it from a stop (in which case you can eliminate the lag by revving and braking and then releasing the brake). Further, once the turbo does kick in, the feeling is more of being strapped to a cruise missle than driving a car.
I should point out that I got the tip (I don't drive stick), and I'm very happy with the gearshifting, especially in sport mode.
I can only describe the general experience, in terms of performance, styling, comfort and public reaction (24 thumbs-up from other motorists, at last count) as awesome.

One more general Porsche question- how good will this thing look if I get it waxed? The car is pretty filthy from all the highway driving. I'm having it washed Friday. I had a clear-bra installed (mostly to prevent dings on the road trip), so I'm choosing between just washing it and taking the clear-bra off and washing and waxing it. How long does a waxing last, and do you think it's worth it?

Re: Got my TT... cupholder question

Andrew, the dealer drove it to Nevada with me in the passenger seat, where we notarized the papers. I didn't pay Cali state tax on it, nor any tax to NV, just the MA 5% tax when I registered it.

Re: Got my TT... cupholder question

I wouldn't take the clear-bra off just to wax it, that's meant to stay on. I have one too - they work very well at protecting that low front from rocks. You just treat it like you'd treat the paint, clean it and wax it as well. As to how it will look after waxing, well, it should go from 'beautiful' to 'stunning'. You really want to keep a layer of wax on at all times; it helps protect the paint. Or if you're an infidel like me, a synthetic 'wax' like Rejex.

Re: Got my TT... cupholder question

I have a silver with stone grey interior and also had the clear bra added. I would leave the clear bra on and wax over it. Just be careful to avoid (or remove) any wax that gets caught where the clear bra ends. I use Meguires NXT Generation Tech Wax and am happy with the results. Waxing the car every six months makes it easier to clean too.

Re: Got my TT... cupholder question

This is better than the factory cupholders--and no risk of spills hurting electronics.

Re: Got my TT... cupholder question

Congrats! And please post some pics.

Re: Got my TT... cupholder question

Saw a GT silver one at the dealer being prepped, looked phenominal.

Re: Got my TT... cupholder question

If you wax make sure you use a wax without abrasives, Meguires Carnuba is very good and only cost about $6. Meguires has a series Cleaner, Polish, Wax. The Cleaner has abrasives to help remove oxidation that cause the finish to look dull, the Polish is used after the Cleaner to polish and has a softer abrasive, then finally the Wax. Here in Fl it's important to keep wax on your car because of the harsh envirnoment. When you wash use one on the car soaps...not dish soap unless you want to remove the wax and are going to rewax soon. I like the Mr. Clean system as you don't need to dry because the rinse uses a filter in the rinse water, this is similar to what dealers use to keep the cars on the lot spotless.

My first Porsche was a 86 944 Turbo that I picked up in Austin and drove back home here in Clearwater...loads of fun.

    Enjoy you new turbo,

    Mike

Re: Got my TT... cupholder question

congrats..sounds like your liking yours about as much as i'm liking mine. i don't think your losing your mind. my tt has the cf shifter and brake handle which evidently includes the cup holder dash trim piece, which definitely has a little curve to it. it isn't to driving me nuts as with the black int. it isn't very noticable when closed.

i'm gonna try to remember to bring my camera next time i work on the break-in period, and assuming i can take the time to stop, get out and take a couple of photos. it's really a lot more fun to drive.

Re: Got my TT... cupholder question

sorry, further. don't mess with the clear bra they install a lot better if the car hasn't been waxed.

it really is cool car guys intrest in these. yesterday in putting some miles on i visited with a pepsi delivery guy where i had stopped for gas in the hinderlands. then when i returned home just in time for the sears delivery guy we visited about the tt and our mutual love of cars. turns out he's building a tubbed 55 pro street chevy.. it's all the same

Re: Got my TT... cupholder question

    roadtrip,

I'm here in Santa Fe on vacation and driving a Yukon!! Would love to have my Porsche (97 993 or 997T when it arrives sometime in Oct/Nov). You have some nice road up to Taos, don't get many mountain roads in Florida!!

Re: Got my TT... cupholder question

    They do droop a little.

Re: Got my TT... cupholder question

I put my cell phone in the closest one, and a bottle of water in the furthest one. Mine does not appear to droop, but they do rattle a bit on a bumpy road.

Re: Got my TT... cupholder question

    mawyatt,

not sure how long your here for but if you would like to experience some really great mexican food and drink head to maria's on cordova rd. non-pretentious locals joint. for top-notch you might try geranimo's or the inn of the anazzi..... have fun - rt

Re: Got my TT... cupholder question

    roadtrip,

Thanks. We've been up to Abiaque & Ghost Ranch 4 times, Taos once. Great drive to and from Taos (different routes), wonderfull scenery to Ghost Ranch. We've been to Blue Corn many times...very good food & microbrew. Went to Bull Ring the other night...second best steak I've had (Bern's in Tampa is the best). See if we can get over to Maria's or Geranimo's. We leave Sunday when daughter finishes her dance routine.
