is the chrono useful for something?

has anybody found a useful aplication for the chrono in the dash. because to take times with that you must be more concentrated in timing than driving.
for me the best thing about sport chrono is the delay in PSM and the feel of throttle response.

Re: is the chrono useful for something?

You have to get it if you want the useful stuff that comes with it.

Kinda fun to have the different throttle maps.

Stopwatch can be removed and a patch put there insted. Haven't seen anybody do this yet though... .

Re: is the chrono useful for something?

I used it once just to time a trip.... and another time, just to start it and stop it a few times. No other use!!!
The chage in throttle is something else. That's of course great!

Re: is the chrono useful for something?

On the 997 GT3, the good news is that the Chrono will not be required to get the change in throttle response!

Re: is the chrono useful for something?

I used it once to make sure it worked

Re: is the chrono useful for something?

    It IS WORTHLESS!!!

The visual lapping function is very cool, displaying the colored circle in green, orange or red showing if you are faster, slower or the same speed .

The interface to do the timing is clumsey and it SUCKS!!
First lap you must start timing then move the selection down to interm time.
Cross line and then depress the stalk TWICE to start a new lap, and every suceeding lap.
    Sounds simple and easy...
However at speed on a track where driving requires 110% of your concentration, at least for me, it is not so easy...might get it once and then forget since the focus is on driving.

When you get it right the display is just a glance to see if you are slower or faster, and is good.

The stopwatch in the dash is a WORTHLESS decoration.

    Whose Great idea was this....

Re: is the chrono useful for something?

I am guessing that the timing function was added in for rally use or just for doing informal timing over distances. It is a bit awkward to use at first, but with a little practice it is not bad. Putting an additional function button in the PCMS to run the timer would be very useful for someone who has a navigator along in a rally.

Re: is the chrono useful for something?

on long trips me and my girl like to play a game. she would give me a number between 1 and 60, and I'd try to stop the chrono clock right on that number.

So what do you win when you get the right number?

Would be a great pleasure to hear the actual inside story at Porsche of how they reacted to us and other buyers' reactions to SC.

Did the "marketing type" responsible for getting it into production get a raise or promotion or did they get fired?

He probably got promoted, and if not, he will be when he will suggest to create a 'CLOCK-DELETE' option (at $0) which can be ordered at the same time as the Sport Chrono Plus (for which the cost of course would remain)

    An expensive egg timer?

Re: is the chrono useful for something?

I use it to time how long it takes from the time my wife says she is ready to go until she actually gets in the car!!

Re: is the chrono useful for something?

I think it's a waist of money. I thought I needed it because of have a sport button on my M3. I would not order it on my next car, unless it adds HP.

Re: is the chrono useful for something?

I LOVE it. Absolutely MUST HAVE this option. Can't live without it.......

OK I don't care for it but I made you look

Stopwatch looks nice at night when it is on.
