    Help on 997tt specs please.

A friend of mine is looking to get a 997tt or an Audi R8 at the moment. If he gets the 997tt, what specs. should we pic. I went on the porsche site and picked the following, let me know what you think.
-Tiptronic or Manual: Which should he get, i'm worried that the DSG or PDK will bring down the value of the Tip, dramatically and be just much better.
-Sports crono, does this do anything apart from the torque boost?.
-Short shifter-worth it for manual transmission.
    -Exterior, Atlas Grey
-Interior: Either Beige, or Beige/black two tone. Also were' looking at this natural color thats slightly darker then baige but not quite brown or terracotta. What are some good combos you recommend? Were looking at a unique color.
-Other then that, we didn't botheor with some of the other options becuase there are just too many and we dont wanna make the car too expensive with these complicated addons.

Re: Help on 997tt specs please.

Tip or manual: up to your friend. Yes, PDK will be better than the Tip, but it will be better than the manual, too...
If this is important to you, keep in mind that the optional limited slip differential is only available with the manual transmission.

Sports Chrono: as on other 987/997's, it also modifies the throttle response, pushes back the PSM/ESP threshold, and dramatically improves the gearbox management if you have a Tiptronic car. It also comes with a few extra memory (seats/mirrors, Homelink) settings.
Definitely a must-have option, especially with a Tip.

Short-shifter: your friend has to try it. Some can't live without it, others dislike its firmness when the transmission is still cold.

Atlas Grey: great color, refined and yet subtly different from all the black and silver cars on the road.
(that said, my personal favorite is cobalt blue, but it might be too flashy a color to your friend)

I'd go for Natural Brown Leather. I'm sure Dan L will happily post a few pictures of his car .
Otherwise, I'd go for the black/beige interior, but then again, some owners on this forums don't seem to complain about reflections on their dashboard (I do).
You might want to try black/grey or natural dark grey, too, they work great with Atlas.

I would definitely add sun visors in leather and the rear console in leather too. The standard parts just aren't good enough.

I appreciate your will to keep the car pretty close to stock. Most people who ask about options on this board usually

Re: Help on 997tt specs please.

Sport chrono you would want on the Turbo. I would definitely go for the manual. Not only for future value but because it is simply a better drive. A tip is really not nice in such a car. At least that's the way I see it. The SS is good but not al that important , the normal shifts are already fairly short. I would def. take it though.
Also go for heated seats, is always nice when you enter a cold car at night even in CA.
Rear wiper delete is also important for me as I think it is not nice looking and is not really needed.
Adaptive seats are also nice to have because you can make them much more comfortable by opening up the seats to create more room on long trips.

Re: Help on 997tt specs please.

If you do nothing else, be SURE to get sport chrono turbo.

Re: Help on 997tt specs please.

Take a look at the Adaptive Sport Seats. They are fairly narrow, but have some nice adjustments.

Is it only me who thinks the so called natural brown by Porsche actually doesn't look like naturally brown?

Don't get me wrong, but somehow this brown just doesn't look right to me, not as natural as it should be, quite hard to describe.

    LSD only with manual shifter.

PCCB: Walter Röhrl says, that he don't feel a difference between standard turbo brakes and the PCCBs

Re: Help on 997tt specs please.

Perhaps a silly question but do you think LSD would be available with PDK when it comes out?

Re: Help on 997tt specs please.

No, I have heard there will not be room for the LSD in cars equipped with the larger/heavier DSG. Too bad because LSD is a must have option in my opinion. I went for a ride in a 997tt sport shifter/pccb/sport chrono/lsd on a tight country backroad and you could definitely feel the LSD working in the corners, amazing traction and it felt as though the rear end was almost steering itself through the turns. I have ridden in and driven many porsches without LSD and the difference is noticeable.

I thought so too. Natural brown should look... Well... Brown. This looks too much like tan IMO.

All the more reason to keep the traditional 6 speed.

Re: Help on 997tt specs please.

Natural Brown is the best interior color IMHO, especially for black and other dark colors. Very classy yet sporty at the same time.

Re: Help on 997tt specs please.

I have the Natural Brown sample from my dealer and It does look very brown. I hope my car looks the same!!!!!!!

Re: Help on 997tt specs please.

Cocoa is the best looking brown colour IMO. Rich and dark but not black (like atlas grey). The natural brown looks too yellowish.

    Exactly my thoughts!

Re: Help on 997tt specs please.

    My must haves
Midnight blue on grey or ocean or black, really don't want a light int color
    SC
    LSD
    SSK
    Heated sport seats
    Thicker wheel
    Long distance Nav module
    Forgetting anything?

Re: Help on 997tt specs please.

    Adaptive sport seats?

Re: Help on 997tt specs please.

    Phone module ?

Re: Help on 997tt specs please.

The adaptives I might go for, but in truth, I never adjust my power seats now and the sport seats are a no cost option.
What is the big advantage of the phone module anyway, I usually just use my cell with an earpeice anyway?

Re: Help on 997tt specs please.

    Chris,

Like you I don't adjust my seats in my 993 but opted for the adaptive sport seats. If I do any track time then I'll set the seats for this, and if I do a long trip I'll set the seats accordingly. My 993 stock seats are fine for everyday use, but lack "holding" power when aggressive cornering....so this is why I ordered the adaptive sport seats.

    Mike

Re: Help on 997tt specs please.

I would have liked the phone module but where I live I really can't use a GSM phone.

Additional: yesterday I've done some emails with the editor of the German "Autobildsportscar", which tested the TT in the latest print. He doesn't consider PCCB necessary. By his experience, the PCCB are inclined to noises.
