    VW Plans For F1 - Get rid of the drivers !

    FORMULA ONE teams tired of paying up to Pounds20 million a year for star drivers could soon have a cheaper alternative that never has tantrums or demands a wage rise: the car that drives itself.

    If they dont watch out it may come true.

    They already use a similar system in Japanese motorboat racing and they even gamble on it there.

    They might as well - it couldn't be any more boring than F1 is right now!

    In fact I think some of the drivers may already be robots.

    They are working on it feverishly. Just think how faster the cars could be in the corners with out worrying about loading a human with G forces.

    Maybe Marklin will become a F1 Sponsor then!

    What! - F1 riding on railroad tracks?

    Then again, Marklin was bought a couple of months ago by the British investment group Kingsbridge Capital. They have vowed to return it to profit - maybe this is their secret plan.

    Nobody will watch anything like that. What a crock of *expletive*. Ruins the concept of motorsports.
    The same argument can be applied to any sport, accordingly.

    I agree. The technology is amazing...but applying it to formula 1(however boring it may be these days), will completely go against the very nature of athletic competition. Who will the fans root for? A mechanical athlete that is represented by a serial number? Go Ferrari! No.15223465-87b42! Oh...the Tifosi are gonna love that!

    F1 began as a sport for rich gentlemen sportsmen - then it morphed into giant crews and giant corp sponsorshop
    with technology winning instead of driver skill. Who knows what it will evolve into next.

    its not going back and unless some truly likeable driver personalities emerge, the whole driver as superstar will start to wane even more.

    Well, there are rampant complaints about this and Eccelstone knows it. There was rumors of a switch back to a clutch and stickshift for 2006. That could definitely spice things up
