    For those in the UK - how much is an extended warranty?

    And does it make a difference when you take it out? I'm 5 months from mine running out and if I don't sell the car before the year is up, then I will need a warranty. Prefer to go for the Porsche one for obvious reasons but of course that depends on the cost.

    It may seem pricey now, but God forbid if something goes wrong and you haven't taken it out - go for it.

    Think its a little cheaper - around Pounds750.

    If you renew within the warranty period then you do not have to have the warranty inspection prior to Porsche accepting the cover. You should be OK for up to 2 weeks after expiry, but after thois the OPC will oinsist on an inspection first, and anyhting they find will have to be fixed before they issue the extended cover.

    Pounds750 is not cheaper, but better than Pounds12k for an engine, or Pounds8k for a gearbox

    Although by definition it can't be a sound economic decision for the average owner it does buy peace of mind and at Pounds750 to Pounds850 it's a lot less than I was offered by Jaguar on my S Type - Pounds3600 for 3 years, needless to say I declined this.

    Just extended the Porsche warranty on my GT3. Cost was Pounds725+VAT. If you let an existing warranty lapse, then take it out, the Official Porsche Centre will charge you for checking over the car.

    Thanks guys - actually, that's cheaper than I thought it would cost. How much longer is it for? I'm guessing a year?

    FYI - I just got this from my OPC:

    Extended warranty is Pounds725.00 per 12month period with the roadside assistance included in the cost.

    I think the general trend is to longer warranties isn't it? Considering their so called reliability, you'd think Porsche would follow suite - esp given that they offer a 4 year warranty in the US as well as the cars costing less over there anyway!

    I believe VW still only offers a 24 month factory warranty here in the US. I think all other brands offer atleast 48 months. For a while one of the US brands was offering a 5 or 6 year warranty but they stopped that too and went back to 4 years.

    Didnt realise when I bought the car that we only get 2 years warranty-I thought it was 3!!Porsche must be about the only manufacturer in the UK with a 2 year warranty,even TVR give you 3 now.
