Selliing the CS, buying a (gulp) Z4 M Coupe

In an effort to get into a bigger better FL winter home, I've put my Ferrari CS up for sale, and ordered a BMW Z4 M Coupe. Early Oct Delivery. Hope it satisfies my Need for speed at a fraction of the cost of the CS! Anyone have any experience with this new Z4 M Coupe?
    PS, Hi RC!!!

Re: Selliing the CS, buying a (gulp) Z4 M Coupe

LOL... you have got to be kidding me!

I'm not trying to sound harsh but...that's a chick's car. Why not save more money and get a used M3?

The M coupe is a good car. Nothing girly about it.

Ahhh... once again we have the difference of American and European cultures. Here in the states the Z4/SLK/and somewhat the Boxster, all fall into that chick car category. It might as well be a Mitsubishi Eclipse.

This is not a step down from the CS... it is more like a dive from a cliff.

No, I perfectly understand what you mean and yes, I know what kind of image these cars have - I agree that the standard Z4 is a chick car, at least by perception, but the M Coupe is a different beast, one that not many women would drive. For one thing, it doesn't have a retractable roof .

Re: Selliing the CS, buying a (gulp) Z4 M Coupe

Well, unlike some here with unlimited funds, I'm faced with the decision to sell my CS to get a better winter home in FL. So, I'm selling this:

    To get this:

Besides, I still have this as my daily driver, so I'm not going to suffer too badly!

Re: Selliing the CS, buying a (gulp) Z4 M Coupe

    I'd rather have a Z4 M Coupe than an M3 also...

Re: Selliing the CS, buying a (gulp) Z4 M Coupe

LOL... another option; keep the CS, sell the M5, and buy a normal 3 series...
    -Joost-

Re: Selliing the CS, buying a (gulp) Z4 M Coupe

If you already have an M5, then it might not be a bad idea to just sell the CS, get that house you want and don't get any other car. Just start saving directly for the 430CS.

Re: Selliing the CS, buying a (gulp) Z4 M Coupe

    get a lotus!!!

Re: Selliing the CS, buying a (gulp) Z4 M Coupe

why not a cayman S??? instead of the Z4 M....just my opinion

Re: Selliing the CS, buying a (gulp) Z4 M Coupe

Z4 M Coupe a chick car? Hardly. Try again.

    Michael

    Can't afford it!

The Cayman S is many 1000's (12?) more than the 56+k as spec'd Z4 M Coupe, and given the fact I can't stand the sound of those P car V-Dub-like engines, the choice between the 2 was easy. Don't mean to offend the many P car enthusiasts here. Each to their own.
In fact, I drove a 996 Turbo for some yrs before going to the CS.

I guess if you factored in the *huge* discounts offered by dealers, since the Cayman isn't selling well, the difference is less than that stated.

    Re: Can't afford it!

Sell both and get am M6 coupe. That should accomplish everything. And despite the M badge the Z4 is a chicks car.

    The M6 is a porker

@4000lbs, the M6 could hardly serve as a weekend track car, could it? Funny you should say "chick's car" when every single mag report I've read so far said it's actually quite manly looking. Guess you don't agree with what every journalist writes about the Z4 M Coupe wrt to it's appearance?

Re: The M6 is a porker

while the z4 M coupe is a great car (and defenatly not a "chicks car") you should look to the lotus exige s aswell. that's the one with the supercharger and sports exaust, so better performance, more speed and better sound!!

    Lotus is great, but,

it's their lack of a widespread dealer network that concerns me, and frankly turns me off. My teenaged sons both wanted me to go with a Lotus too! Been experiencing that dealer network problem firsthand with my CS.

Re: Selliing the CS, buying a (gulp) Z4 M Coupe

lotus or something else. The Z4 M coupe is a great car- but it's not the NEW m3 that will come out. And very simply it's not too much better than the older M coupe. Gotta be honest---- get a porsche or something. OR A USED M3!!!

    Correct

Re: Selliing the CS, buying a (gulp) Z4 M Coupe

Sorry guys... maybe because I'm still in my 30s, but that is a chick's car. I just asked my girlfriend what she thought and she said it most definitely is a chick's car.

I realize it may not perform like one but it definitely looks like one.

Re: Selliing the CS, buying a (gulp) Z4 M Coupe

Didnt I read somewhere that a company was importing Nobles to the US now??? I so this would make a great track / toy car and is very very fast for the money...

Suprised no one has mentioned a GT3??? In London you can pick up a used (2-3yr) GT3 for around Pounds50k... About the same as the M coupe your looking at... Know which one I'd rather have!!!!

In fact I'd also much rather take a used M3 CSL rather than the m coupe...

Also no mention of the performance bargain Z06???

Re: Selliing the CS, buying a (gulp) Z4 M Coupe

GoodWood- as I said before, the lotus would be nice but an alternative based on price, if you can go up a little, a Z06, if u need to drop a bit, nothing wrong with the C5 Z, the performance should be close to ur CS or better with those, the lotus may leave u wanting...

Re: Selliing the CS, buying a (gulp) Z4 M Coupe

The new Z06 will not only keep you smilling, but make that 360 seem like a chick car. You will rule the road, still look good, and save some money.

Sorry dude, but did your girlfriend earned money with her hands for car like Z4 M Coupe to be reference "which is chich car and which isnt" ?

Z4 M Coupe is great car , it is fast, quality and useful.

BTW: What makes Z4 Coupe more "chick car" than Cayman ?

Good is that my girlfriend doesnt have "voice" which cars we will have at home, because then I would drive Smart. She can say which kitchen is the best, which washing machine we must buy, but defenetly I dont ask her for opinion about cars.

"Chick cars" are Peugeot 206 CC, 307 CC and all others CC, Beetle, Mazda Miata, Fiat Barchetta and those cheap roadsters/cabrio with no power. And Z4 Coupe defenetly isnt in this class, especially not M.

my thoughts exactly , this car is a true sports car and you will love it for sure !!

LOL... FYI... my girlfriend makes enough money to afford cars much more expensive than the very affordable M coupe. I'm not exactly sure how that relates to the "little coupe that could".
BTW You really should let your girlfriend have a "voice".

Socals girl is right. The "chicks car" badge can be earned in different ways and has little to do with performance. No one doubts the numbers of the z4 nor a particular porsche model somewhat referenced above. Its often earned by the demographic the maker targeted or those who bought or its purpose.

But the little bmw z coupes are chicks cars just like an rx-7. Sorry it can be changed.

As to the M6 being a track car. WHY NOT? What does lightness have to do with tracking? It should be performance overall. Everything is relative, just budget for tires and pads. The M6 is the hottest to come from BMW ever in my opinion and that includes the M1.

I have seen the lotus products up close and I don't understand the attraction. Cheaply built and little. Go all the way and buy a KART! Probably the most fun you would have at a track. Tow it behind the M6.

Re: Selliing the CS, buying a (gulp) Z4 M Coupe

The M Z4 roadster is a chicks car but i dont understand how people could think the coupe is, that thing is pretty bad ass even if it's butt ugly

How about some more photos of that CS?

What color is that? Is it Grigio Alloy? Very nice. If I wasn't on this expat assignment in Amsterdam for another year (minimum!) I'd be making an offer. Z4 M Coupe definitely seems to polarize people. I saw one in the metal at the Goodwood FOS this year and I really liked it.

What about waiting for an Audi R8? Definitely more expensive but it might fill the void of the CS better.

Absolutely EVERYTHING. Carrying momentum around a track is more a function of the car's weight than HP. HP will make up for the handicap on strait aways to a certain degree, but for example, I can see a Lotus Elise being faster around a medium sized road course than an M6.
