It is unfortunate, but it happens and these are just cars (not pieces of jewelry) bought to be driven and that is life. Sorry, but that is what I tell myself when it happens.
I often see cars that are blemish-free. Either they are very lucky and soon enough the luck streak will end, or they are not driven - which is a shame.

Is it just a minor chip or does it have a bit of a crack? If it's just a minor chip then forget it. If there is a small crack there's a lot of windshield places which can inject some material to make it less visible. I had it done for both my audi and 997. So far, touch wood, it has been only. Only took about ~$80 cdn for the fix. If the crack gets worse they will apply credit for replacing the whole windshield.
Btw, Vincenza,did your dealer actually replace the windshield themselves or did they farm it out to a windshield place? Over in Toronto, Can, that's what they seem to do.

My insurance did the same thing. However, a 5 yr old could have installed it better. Autoglass is not the place to take your car I can tell you and this particular regional installation centre was Porsche approved. To answer your question though, no not really. They can fill small chips but it's never 100% thats for sure you still see the areas which have been filled.
I guess you just got to put up with it until such time it really does need replacing.

got a windshield chip at similar mileage awhile back. had it repaired at the dealership, during the process the chip turned into an enormous crack. guess i was actually relieved in getting a new windshield. on my dime however as with my chip repair incident they indicated &*%#$ can happen

What's the point? If the problem gets worse, then it qualifies as a legitimate road-hazard, comprehensive insurance repair!

I have about twenty of my windscreen, they are so small you cannot see them from inside and the wipers are not affected by them, but if you are cleaning the windscreen in bright sunshine you can see them (almost like little specs of clear resin/sap on the glass surface.
They are too small to be bothered with a repair, and the repair guys would be out on a monthly basis if i did decide to have them done.

I'm aleady on my 3rd windshield, and it already has 2 nice cracks/chips
consider yourself extremly lucky if it lasts 2 years.

Well, that would make sense, if it so happened that any of the chips were caused by following a car too closely, but none of them were.
I have driven thousands and thousands of miles on my previous 996 on the same roads, same old commutes, same driver, and I have never had to replace the windshield in all those years. Nor with ANY other car that I have onwed for that matter.
Yet with the 997, anything that hits the windshield of my 997, causes exagerated damage to the point of having to replace the windshiled after two or three chips and cracks. Like I said, I'm one my thrird already.

Got a small nick - about the size of the point of a pin - on the windshield. Can't fix that, but I'm going to put on a step cleaning/coating by an outfit called Diamondite (I think I've got the right spelling). 3M has a link to it so I assume they contain some 3M products. The final coat is supposed to protect against nicks and small chips. I'll see how it works when I apply it.

My solution--get out of NM. I hate the place. Got my car broken in to on a cross country road trip. Useless State police. The one time I wasn't packing myh Kimber too
