I need some advice on wheels

I ordered wheels and was able to have the manufacturer rush them (without charge as it was their first 997 turbo) because I so disliked the stock wheels. Now that I've had them installed on the car, I think they might look too small. I went with 19"s because I've heard tires would last longer and saw no real need to go bigger, but after seeing them on the car they look smaller than the stock wheels. Is it just my imagination? Do you have any other suggestions?

    My criteria:
    They must be black
    I prefer five spokes
I'd like as much as a lip as possible
    My wife likes mesh wheels

Re: I need some advice on wheels

    And one more...

Re: I need some advice on wheels

They look smaller because of the different colors of the center and the lip. Make it all black and you'll see a difference.

Re: I need some advice on wheels

I find that wheels with a lip often give the illusion of being smaller than wheels without a lip. They look fine to me though.

Re: I need some advice on wheels

    gorgeous car, nevertheless...

Re: I need some advice on wheels

IMO, they look small, because the OEM wheels have what I would call a tapered lip. The area leading to the outer lip area tapers to a very small lip, giving the OEM wheels the look of a larger wheel. The OEM's actually look like 20 inches. However, I personally woudn't go larger than 19. Gorgeous car anyway.

Re: I need some advice on wheels

You need to order 19" wheels with a reverse-drop lip. It makes the centers look more like 20's. Kinesis and HRE offer that lip

Re: I need some advice on wheels

    Go 20's and lower ...

Re: I need some advice on wheels

How will you be able to lower the 997TT? With the electronically controlled suspension, this seems like it will require more than installing HR springs like I did on my 993.

Re: I need some advice on wheels

Could it be that the width of the spokes visually decrease the effect of the lip(s). Also, I find that black spokes on a black car can present the illusion of smaller wheels.
It would really have to bother the hell out of me to upsize the wheels though! Incredible looking in any respect. Clear side-markers perhaps?

Re: I need some advice on wheels

The new turbo wheels are excellent. It is again a form follows function design. The wheel is light, its face is polished without bling making it easy to maintain clean. Its interior is dark hiding brake dust for the rest of us who rather enjoy driving than constantly babying a car. No after market wheel will top this one for a loing time to come, IMO.

You're right. I think my issue is with the size of the lip. I'm going to try to have this adjusted. Maybe lower it later. Clear side markers are on order. Thanks.

    I couldn't agree more.
And many of these reverse drop center wheels (HRE for instance) are heavy, definately heavier than the OEM forged wheels. I wouldn't go aftermarket, but if I had to consider them, I'd look to Kinesis or Champion. Usually, the cleaner the wheel, the lighter the wheel (i.e. torx fasteners around the lip adds weight.) And, I would certainly paint the inner lip a dark color like Porsche did; what a great idea. I like the look of the OEM wheels with a little brake dust against the dark inner lip; looks kind of menacing and purposeful.

The rears could be bumped to 20 but the fronts look perfect to me. They look pretty good already though.

That would more than likely upset the balance of the car. Not a good idea.

Re: I need some advice on wheels

I think those wheels look great! Really makes the car look sinister, really very hot looking. I was thinking about champion or AutoArt, but yours are very tempting. I really do not like the OEMs, too glamour looking.

Here are some iForged rims, FS-Areo-19"/PS Daytona/PS Monaco-19"/FS-Rev-19" Personally I like the FS-Rev the best

Does anybody have the weights for the OEM 19" rims ??

Re: I need some advice on wheels

There's only 2 wheels I'd put on a Porsche turbo are the TechArt Formula's or Champion's. TechArt just came out w/ a 20"/ 12" wide rear formula for the 997 C4S & turbo. And if you're putting on custom wheels go 20's. You already have 19's for anytime you want.

imo for your car - Black 20" TechArt Formula wheels would be CrAzy!!!!!!!

I recently saw the weights for the oem wheels but can't remember where. I recall them being approximately 23 lbs. frt. and 27 lbs. or 28 lbs. rear.

SAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH WEEEEEEEEEEET!!! - This is someone's car from RENNTEAM.

I'm imaginging these silver ones on my Artic 997 turbo PCCB cabriolet.

Re: I need some advice on wheels

The car looks awesome. If you are going to change the wheels go with critera #4 "My wife likes mesh wheels"

Re: I need some advice on wheels

If they have to be black mesh w/ a lip and 19's I'd go w/ these
