    Audi R8 discussion and speculation cntd.

    This is the info compiled from various places.
    Engine:4.2V8 from RS4 followed 1-2 years later by V-10 520hp.
    Weight: In between GT3(1395kg)and turbo(1585)-correct me if i'm wrong.
    0-100km in about 4.2seconds.
    Transmisions: 6speed manual and sequential(same as egear on gallardo)
    Have any of you guys heard anything.
    I went with my father to a audi dealership and they ar'nt taking names yet and we offered to put a deposit down but they claim that Audi hasn't told them anything yet, can someone recommend an audi dealerhsip in LA with information and all.
    KresoF1, I tried to send you a PM but my PMs dont seem to be working right now, I believe you have some info that you kindly offered to share with some of us on the car on August 1st. My dads looking at the 997 turbo but I suggested to him that the R8 will be a more pretty, interesting and characterful car.
    I'll put up some pics of spy pics and concepts and let meknow which you guys think it looks most like.

    Is it rear wheel drive or 4wd like the Gallardo?

    The Following is from pistonheads.com: "R8 will be available with two different engines, a V8 with 425bhp, as in the Audi RS4, and a V10 with approx. 480bhp -- a modified Audi S8 / Lamborghini Gallardo engine. Performance is likely to be in the region of 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds and to 125mph 10.8 seconds."

    Is this true? and will the V10 come out at the same time as the V8?

    How, with only 480 horsepower will this car reach 125 mph almost 2 seconds faster than a 997tt with 480hp and almost 3 seconds faster than an F430 with 483hp? Doesn't really make sense.

    They must've made an error with the power figures. I'm sure the V10 will have 520 bhp (at least). With enough reduction in weight, that time could be possible.

    I doubt it will weigh much less than the Gallardo considering both cars will have awd and E-gear. The Gallardo has 520 hp and takes about 13.5 seconds to reach 125mph so I am very skeptical of the 10.8 figure.

    Rumors suggest that the car will be a little lighter then the gallardo, i've heard between the weight of a gt3 and turbo. They are apparently using some kind of lightweight desgin but who knows

    I don't recall exactly, but from what Kreso said, I believe Audi are developing their own sequential transmission.

    Due to Audis relation with Lamborghini this car will be slower than the Gallardo. It won't pack more than 500hp, beacsue if it would, then it would inflict with Gallardo sales. A spoke to an Audi dealer and he said that the R8 will be priced at around 90k. 911TT owner can sleep tight, this car won't be any competition at all.

    The R8 is probably gonna be bought for different reasons to the gallardo. the Gallardo is much mor dramatic looking and exclusive. Thats like saying a 430 buyer will not buy a 430 because of the 997tt. I think audi is moving the hp up on the gallardo so that it will make room for the V10 which all reporst indicate will for sure happen at some point on the R8. Besides, I heard soemthing abouit audi not controlling Lambo for much longer.

    When the R8 gets the 520 HP V10, the Gallardo will be getting the 550 HP FSI.

    But what about Carrera owners? A friend of mine who works for Audi told me that the V8 version will be priced between Carrera and Carrera S ptice tag. That's gonna be true dilemma for n/a Porsches.

    Jaguar and Aston Martin don't have a problem doing this, so I would think that there should not be a problem with Audi and Lambo.

    You are wrong. Jag and AM do have problems. Just look at the new Jaguar XKR, it has 420hp. That is a quite some power but not enough for the car to be faster than its 450hp powered sybling called the DB9.
    The Gallardo 2006 has 520hp which is perfect to keep itself distant from the R8 which is romoured to have 480(top of the line version).
    The last 12 months Lamborghini has been a profitable company and there is no way VAG will ruin that by launching a Gallardo killer from Audi.

    10.8 0-200kmph is preposterous, but if it performes well and doesn't look as ugly as those spyshots, it will find a nice little niche...

    The following site claims they may use porsche engines in R8

    The following site although old claims that they may use 911 engines int he R8 and that the R8 is 3200 lbs. I'm sure this is not the case but intereresting.

    Anyone know any specs??? please i'm dyin hear, ha ha
