    New 997 Turbo

I just got a call from my dealer while I'm on vacation here in Santa Fe. They just rec'd a black on black 6 speed that the person ordered can't take delivery. I placed my order (Red on grey with tip) April 7 and hope to get a build date in Oct. I like red best but also like the black (test drove a silver 6 speed and black tip...liked the looks of the black over the silver). The tip was later selected as my wife wanted it so she could drive. The tip I drove was really nice but I must admit I don't know how to use it properly, I have a 97 993 6 speed as my daily drive, so the 997T 6 speed test drive went well...very quick!

Do you think I should opt for this earlier car or wait? Any quick responses are appreciated.

    TIA Mike

On one hand, life is too short so grab the black car

OTOH, if you're spending this much money, you should wait for exactly what you want. OTOH, you'd get a slushbox and let your wife drive your beast? OTOH, she'll really appreciate you for it.

    Nope, I can't help

(but I will warn you as the owner of a black 997tt, believe me keeping it clean is my new hobby - something to think about)

Re: On one hand, life is too short so grab the black car

    Alan,

Thanks, I know about the black. I actally don't mind the cleaning, I try and keep my 97 993 (red) clean. It rains often here in the Tampa Bay area so just about any color needs constant cleaning...but black is the worst. Is your 997T a 6 speed? I test drove a 6 speed and tip, both were very quick and fun. I was suprised with the tip...very quick indeed!!

Re: On one hand, life is too short so grab the black car

I agree with Alan on going for what you want exactly. I originally had silver on order but after seeing it in person, I elected to go with blue which resulted in my build date getting bumped from August to October because of the change. I was initially upset about it at first but I was okay with the change because it meant that I would be getting exactly what I wanted.

Re: On one hand, life is too short so grab the black car

I'm big on waiting for exactly what I want alos but if you like the black then maybe so. The good thing about getting the 6 speed is that the wife would have to drive the other vehicle all the time and you would be forced to drive the TT all the time. Not such a bad thing.

Re: On one hand, life is too short so grab the black car

That much money I would wait, BTW black is not a color it's a JOB. I am in my last Blk Pcar

    LOL. Nice one to remember.

mawyatt: I'd wait and get what you want. Plus, less importantly, there'll be a few more months for them to work out any bugs with the newness of the car... .

Re: On one hand, life is too short so grab the black car

    Mike....what about his and hers?

    Re: New 997 Turbo

mawyatt, u should wait ... for ur RED 997TT... i saw one in Porsche showroom in Taiwan . damn ... it looks awesome in RED ....i will attach the pic .. here .. Enjoy it ... u won't Regret...

    Re: New 997 Turbo

    one more pic

    Re: New 997 Turbo

I'd wait for the one you already ordered..

    Re: New 997 Turbo

Thanks everyone. I passed and it's already long gone (took 30 minutes after I got the call!). Thanks for the image of the red 997T, I agree it looks great. I like the interior, mine is grey, is that color sand? I like that black is not a color it's a job (mind if I use that?). His and hers sounds good but my wife wants something else, she just wanted me to get the tip so she could drive it sometimes. I have a 97 993 C2 that has a 6 speed and I've tried to teach her to drive....no luck.

So I'll just wait a few more months. While I have everyone "on the phone" my order is with the tip, sport chrono, adjustable sport seats. I went with the standard steering wheel...should I select an optional wheel? If so which one would best suit me. I'll use the car for my daily drive alone with my 993 and maybe a track day with the PCNA after I get certified.

Thanks for all the help and advice,

    Mike

    Re: New 997 Turbo

I got the multifunction steering wheel, partly because I also got the phone option. I like it. Here's a picture. Stone grey. Good luck and enjoy your special car.

    Re: New 997 Turbo

    DJB,

Thanks, the grey interior looks good. Here in Fl I don't want black (too hot), and I'm not fond of the sand color in a red car. Still wondering if I should have got the black car and sold it. Not sure how much a titled car would go for and if one could actually make a reasonable profit considering all the time needed to acquire then sell the car. Not an option now.

Hope you are enjoying your new 997T.

    Mike

    Re: New 997 Turbo

Highly suggest that you wait!! I know that it is frustrating to have to wait, but the factory is pretty quick. Then you can tailor it carefully to your exact specifications. Consider the natural brown leather! Nice!

    Re: New 997 Turbo

I think you are doing the right thing to wait. It sounds like you are more a Porsche lover and driver than a "love 'em and leave 'em" speculator. The profit at this point for the risk is not likely worth the hassle and distraction. Get your baby, enjoy the anticipation, and drive it like you stole it.

    Re: New 997 Turbo

    DJB,

This is my 3rd Porsche and I don't want anything else. Like many here I could afford a Ferrari, Lambo, and so on but think the Porsche is the best overall and I don't have to spend the extra for any of those other cars. Don't get me wrong all those cars are great as is the Z06, Viper, GT40, GT500, I just prefer the Porsche with it's legacy and I love the way the drive. They are also probably the most reliable top end sports car. Since this will be my daily drive most of the time, the ride and relibility are important.

    Mike

    Re: New 997 Turbo

mawyatt, I agree 100%. We're lucky to be able to own these cars.

Dan L., nice looking cab! That's natural brown leather? Beautiful! Do I see the leather backs on those sport seats?

    Re: New 997 Turbo

Pyro, we are lucky indeed!! Porsche to me is much more than just a car, a top level super sports car, or a car that others admire. It's about the legacy of Porsche and Porsche racing, no one can dispute they are the king of all sports cars, they have more wins than anyone...sure Ferreri has many wins but they come in a distant second. Being an engineer (electrical...chip designer) I appreciate the detailed engineering that Porsche utilizes in their cars. No company comes even close to the this aspect of Porsche. I'm not sure many others appreciate this but I certainly do. Just look at what they do when the "factory" decides to enter a racing catagory...the Spyder RS is a good example. Sometime I'll post a rumor about where the famous Audi R8 came from...not sure if it's true but sure it will strike up some conversation!!

    Re: New 997 Turbo

OH MY GOD! That red turbo looks to die for. The red interior is making my skin melt.

    Re: New 997 Turbo

Mike, I'm with you on this. I have had three Ferraris, but my first love was a 356B Super double grill. I was 21, living in Dallas and used to go out and drive the fields at night with the windows down to listen to the music. Since that I moved to turbos with an 89 930 Factory Slantnose cabriolet, 993, 996 and now 997. They have all been my daily drivers and I love them.

    Enjoy!

    Re: New 997 Turbo

    DJB,

Thanks. I find it funny when some have an exotic car and just drive on clear dry warm weekends! These car are expensive and are for enjoyment, why not drive every day! Porsche is probably the only super sports car in this catagory, the 350Z is a nice ride but nowhere near the total performance level without significant mods. The Vetts are OK and many use these for their daily drives but only the Z06 is in the top end catagory in total performance but I don't know of anyone that drives these daily...heard the ride is harsh, same for the Vipers. I like Porsche for many reasons mentioned and I can drive them just about anywhere anytime. Like someone posted "life is short" so why not enjoy these top end sports cars everyday rain or shine.

Can't wait for my 997TT...do you have yours?

Very good point indeed. I just purchased a new turbo and I find myself driving it less as to keep the miles low. Life is short and I should be enjoying the car instead of the next guy who buys it.

    Re: New 997 Turbo

Yep. I have had it a couple of weeks. I started a thread(you can scroll down to see it) comparing the 996tt with the 997tt since I have both. Since I am still in the breakin period, my comparisons are not acceleration or speed performance related. I'm about half way to 2000 miles and loving it even below 4000 rpms!

    Re: New 997 Turbo

    DJB,

Enjoy. Hope to have mine soon maybe by Nov.
