Guys is not official at 100% but from a reliable source,it seems that these are not pics of the 997 MK2,but are pics of the Carrera Sport, that will be a special edition of the 997,like the 996 C4S/996 40 Jahre were for the 996...

This one will have rear tail lights different to match the tail lights stripe like the 996 C4S,new front bumper simil turbo with led indicator and new directional front lights, that in future will be available for all 997 like option, this car will have also powerkit standard..

I hope this info is true, becouse this friend is well introduced..

    That makes so much sense!!!!

The directional lights will be a great option (i agree!!!!! -- though the basic BMW 3 series coup i think comes with them STANDARD!)

if they're NOT pics of the 997 mk2 than what will the the revised 997 look like?

what i don't understand is that the 996 had a six model year life span and after three years they revised it (MY2002) here in the states i believe... they gave it the turbo-look lights, bumped the HP from 300 to 320 i think, suspensions upgrades i believe, etc.

it makes sense that with the 2008 which will be it's 4th model year (2005-2007) that it will receive the now usual REVISION...

and i imagine it would get an HP upgrade, suspension, perhaps a very minor interior tweak and exterior cosmetic changes.

i remember that so many sources were saying that the 997 would arrive with 380 HP for the "S" model and 355 for the standard... perhaps this will finally come.

IMHO, i love the spy pics "new" front bumper -- it looks like the old 996 4S and 996 turbo which i still think looks SO much better than the new turbo and hopefully the turn signals will be integrated or smaller than the current ones... just my opinion of course.

    thanks for the post ron.

Re: Some more '08 spy shots

Would'nt panic guys....They've been saying the Cayenne Facelift was due out...ohhhh....about 3 years ago....

In any case, everything will be retrofitable for a couple of $k.

    Next.

Re: Some more '08 spy shots

I highly doubt that Porsche would offer a one off front bumper and rear lights for just one special edition vehicle.

The only time I've known them to do that was the grill on the 993 C2S. There are probably other minor examples, but usually, they scavenge and reuse parts when they mix and mash. It's too costly otherwise.

My bet is that this does represent a facelift. I think it looks prety good, and yes, it does bother me that the new C2S I just bought will be dated by these recent changes.

Re: Some more '08 spy shots

I think it will be a special edition.. but that most of these new features will be on the facelift in MY08 or MY09

i doubt it too..but two sources tell the same thing..

and directly from Sergini from the Ring it seems there are other 997 mules that are running the track, that seems really the 997 restyling, becouse they have the same bumber of the regular 997 in front, but with led inidicator lights..and a different rear bumper(camouflaged) with led tail lights, but of the same shape of the one of the 997,(not like the one of the pics of this pages)
is difficult to explain without pics..but as soon as he came back he post pics..

Re: Some more '08 spy shots

Guys, the facelift should be introduced for MY 2009, not 2008. The car on the picture is actually more interesting from a completely different point of view: this car actually shows new technology which will be introduced with the facelift. And now I shut up...

BTW: right now, I won't be able to post too much, I'm going to be "tied up" for the next couple of days. The reason? Look at the picture.

    Is this it?

Re: Some more '08 spy shots

For sure they are testing some tech features, otherwise all those green cables going from the driver's cabin into the front trunk wouldn't make sense. But then, what kind of interesting tech stuff may be hidden under the front trunk of a Carrera (they won't test a new front engine version ).
Maybe our tech pros are better than me with some speculations

Re: Some more '08 spy shots

By Jove, I think Luke's got it....it's got to be that electrically-extensible front air dam/spoiler. Someone posted the U.S. patent dated June 2006 for this device, patent belonging to Porsche. Good idea, too-- considering the sometimes floaty sensation from the front end at higher speeds.

Would the aftermarket lip spoilers from Car graphics or Techart help reduce the front end bobbing phenomenon?

i'm sorry i missed this.. can you please elaborate how this would work and look!

    thanks for the insights.

here thanks to Trundle there is an explanation..

Re: Some more '08 spy shots

Is that lip so much bigger than the standard one? BTW, all those cables could go to the measuring equipment; all the sensors placed all over the car, and then the main starage device in the fron trunk... does not necessarily mean that the sensors are in the fornt.

Re: Some more '08 spy shots

    Very interesting . . .

Re: Some more '08 spy shots

they should also be testing a more "pedestrian friendly" front bonnet to comply with new euro regulations.

Re: Some more '08 spy shots

I kinda hope its a special version or limited Sport edition.
would explain the other new options to be introduced, the turbo like front bumper and the lip thingy.. hope it gets GT3 engine!

Re: Some more '08 spy shots

    Nice shot RC .

Re: Some more '08 spy shots

If MY 2009 for the facelift, I suspect that Darius' case is spot on and the car will have a front extensible spoiler. Now the million dollar question then is when the DSG will come out. If all else goes well, the DSG should come out 2009 too (or 998 pessimistically speaking) with the facelift and then the facelift would come with it loads of goodies for almost the same price. However, with a DSG gearbox and the front spoiler, the older 997 first generation relatively would be a different animal and more "obsolete" since it is not cosmetic. However, by 2009, we would only have 18-24 months before the next iteration comes out which an educated guess would yield the model number 998 (999 is pretty cool or 1000... but doubt it) so the facelift will get buyers all hyped out for the last 997s of its generation before 998 rolls out then it would be a different generation. Anyone and any input? If PAG were to be smart, it would just do the front spoiler and save the DSG for the 998 in 2011 (a bit late but good for long term track record) considering that even pedestrian cars like VW GTi comes with cheap DSG as an option and the next TT already steps up to steptronic.

Competition wise, I think DSG will have to come with the facelift but logic wise and business sense wise, save the best for last till the 998 or else no one would have any reason to upgrade.

    Pixel surgery on 997

    this should look close...

    Re: Pixel surgery on 997

    Uaau great work!

    Re: Pixel surgery on 997

    I absolutey love it!

    Great job

    Re: Pixel surgery on 997

    Hi!
I can confirm you, there is no Carrera Sport. These are prototypes of the future facelift (absolutely not before MY '09). But be sure, the contents will be much more than a couple of bumbers and LED tail lights...

Re: Some more '08 spy shots

I went to the dealer to see the 997 turbo today. (beautiful one, atlas grey) I talked with one of the salesguys, and he told me that the pics on internet were probably NOT a special model, but facelift. He expected MY2008... So bad news for the people who just ordered. About meteor grey; he expected (but wasn't sure) that it would be the same as the 70's color meteor grey, because they were able to order more of those "retro" colors. They had received an order for a targa in meteor grey.

... believe me, not before MY'09...

Re: Some more '08 spy shots

yes it seems it isn't a special version....is the restyling..

someone tell balls to take time ..but as tell Freddy M. we can be sure that the restyling will be not here before MY09

OK what makes you so sure?!

Re: Some more '08 spy shots

Other sources like autospies and more recent pics say it will be sooner. MY07 will be short, with the face lifted product due out in sping or summer of 07, but as an 08 model.

Just because they have said it, doesn't mean it's true. It won't be out next year.
