    Z06 vs. F430 vs. 997TT....*C&D TEST*

The one you have been waiting for...

    Re: Z06 vs. F430 vs. 997TT....*C&D TEST*

    performance stats...

    Re: Z06 vs. F430 vs. 997TT....*C&D TEST*

    Interesting test.

All the cars seem pretty close. It'll end up coming down to the driver when it comes to amateurs.

    Re: Z06 vs. F430 vs. 997TT....*C&D TEST*

Got to hand it to the Z06,,amazing...

    throt...

    Re: Z06 vs. F430 vs. 997TT....*C&D TEST*

2.35 seconds over the F430 on a short 1.6 mile course is HUGE. I know that doesn't sound like much and is only a number, but that is pretty dramatic, especially if you were watching in person. My hats off to Porsche for builing an AWD car that is nearly as capable of a more powerful RWD car. In the wet the Porsche would have probably won.

dissapointing for porsche...they had an extra year to get things going...

    Re: Z06 vs. F430 vs. 997TT....*C&D TEST*

Like 95jersey said, that really is a BIG difference on the track. I am really surprised the 430 wasnt quicker. Maybe it had the old style gated shifter?

    Re: Z06 vs. F430 vs. 997TT....*C&D TEST*

Ferrari wins the taste taste but loses the war.

Gawwd the F430 is slowwwww compared to the others
and Porsche better offer a "double sports chrono"
    soon.

No, the 430 had the F1 gearbox and the Z06 was on run-flat tires...

    Re: Z06 vs. F430 vs. 997TT....*C&D TEST*

Those must be pretty good runflats!

I was curious when a test would pit a Z06, TT and F430
    on a regular length track.

But the 0-150mph times make Porsche and especially Ferrari
look .... not so good.It used to be the other way around.
I am dissapointed that the Euro cars have less punch in the higher speed ranges.

"double sports chrono" is porsches new system. Not only does it time you, but it also tells you how much time
it will remove for you. So you should win any elapsed time contest. Simple.

Runflats are faster than normal tires.

That probably has something to do with the 20-30 hp difference.

    Re: Z06 vs. F430 vs. 997TT....*C&D TEST*

Walter - a lot of it is due to the weight

And also there is no reason on earth why a Chevy pushrod V8 - with simple injection - should gave a higher rev line than the most advanced Porsche 911 engine in history.

Runflats are faster than normal tires.

Who says that. Runflat tyres are more heavy and this increases the unsprung weight. I guess with normall sport tires this beast will be even faster.

    Re: Z06 vs. F430 vs. 997TT....*C&D TEST*

Why the hell did they take the worst times ever for the F430 ? C&D tested the F430 twice - in the first test they got much better times - however the 0-150mph time is missing, which is probably the reason...

    C/D TEST RESULTS Ferrari F430
    ACCELERATION: Seconds
    Zero to 30 mph: 1.3
    40 mph: 1.8
    50 mph: 2.8
    60 mph: 3.5
    70 mph: 4.2
    80 mph: 5.4
    90 mph: 6.5
    100 mph: 7.9
    110 mph: 9.3
    120 mph: 11.0
    130 mph: 13.0
    Street start, 5-60 mph: 4.0
    Top-gear acceleration, 30-50 mph*: 3.6
    50-70 mph: 5.6
    Standing 1/4-mile: 11.7 sec @ 123 mph

Probably for longevity reasons. Porsche is now pulling 480+hp out of a little 3.8 V6, which is pretty darn impressive. That shows you how much boost they must be shoving in that little motor. At those power levels 7000rpm+ could spell disaster. It was probably a safer idea for Porsche to keep the RPM a little lower and use technology (variable turbo) to make up in the mid range. Thus you get the "overboost" that starts around 2500 and cut's off right before things get out of hand...pretty trick actually, but still didn't get the job done. In the end it was weight that won this battle as well as tires.

Regarding the Z06 Supercar tires...while I never used the new generation goodyear supercar tires, I have used the previous generation and they were the best street tire I have ever used. They are within inches of an R compound, but also had the tread life to match. I would get like 5000-8000 miles out of them and they were trash. At $1400 a set, that got old fast. This is why you see the GT3RS getting such impressive lap time, as they basically sell the car with R compound tires.

    A 7L pushrod...

But I didn't understand what you meant.

    Re: Z06 vs. F430 vs. 997TT....*C&D TEST*

    @walter - revline = redline = max upms/rpms

There was a comparison test in SportAuto of runflats and normal tires. They tested Bridgestones and Michelins (runflat and normal version of the same type of tire for both brands).
The runflats were faster compared to the normal version of the same tire on a dry track.

What matters is how much torque it has at high revs.More toque means that it accelerates faster.More torque also means that it has more HP.

A moment of silence as we take our hats off to the Z06 team at GM. To produce a 7000 rpm, push-rod, run-flat, side-airbagged, 22 cu.ft. luggage spaced, adjustable stability controlled, HUD, lighter-than-CGT-curb weight car that gives the 997 Turbo and 430 a damn good thrashing on a dry track is no small accomplishment. And not voiding the warranty even if you attend DE's and autocrosses is butter on the toast.

    The C6 Z06.

Too bad the car is plastic on the outside. To stop bashing it, it's totally performance oriented, while the Turbo and the F430 are a compromise between performance and comfort (more sound deadening, solid metal body, not plastic, etc.). But yes, that powerplant is really awesome.

    Re: Z06 vs. F430 vs. 997TT....*C&D TEST*

Define "plastic"? Do you mean fiberglass? CF? or plastic bumpers? Doesn't every car now have plastic front and rear bumpers? including Porsche and Ferrari? The rest of the body is made of fiber glass and CF. I never quite understood this "plastic" commment. Half of the race cars I see use fiberglass as the body shell...why is that a negative?

    Re: Z06 vs. F430 vs. 997TT....*C&D TEST*

    Crash-

    How old are you?
Will you actually purchase any of these cars or are you just a fan of Porsche?

Some of the stuff you type is bordering on Kim Jong Il-style propaganda/horse-blinders.

Jersey, I don't mean plastic as in lightweight and durable (which I truly believe to be the case), but in the feel. I remember seeing a C6 and I did the "Clarkson test". The damn panel really gave in . That's what I meant by plasticky. Like I've said before, the C6 cars are excellent and without a doubt the performance leaders in their class, but the small touches count to me.

SoCalHoosier: I was seriously contemplating the C6Z, which costs under 90.000 Euros here and which I can actually afford at the moment, but I decided to wait and get a 997TT later on. Not worried about image, since pimps never drove these cars here ( ), and I think that it looks badass from the rear, it's just that I prefer the 997TT to the C6Z. And no, I haven't driven the two yet (will probably get a test drive in the Turbo Tip in the coming month). I'm not sure why everybody reacts so violently to the "plasticky" comment anyway. It IS plasticky, so why not embrace it as a performance enhancer for you performance oriented guys and let us "snobs" carry on with out "plasticky" comments?
