    Car and Driver - comparison test Z06 v 997 TT v F430

Pretty good comparison test. 997TT beat the others in all ranges upto 120mph. Z06 better above 120mph. 1.1sec 0-30mph for the 997TT!

    But the ranking were.
    3rd - z06
    2nd - 997TT
1st - F430 = The Best Sports car in the world, and the most charismatic.

For the 997TT they say they would prefer the 997GT3 due to it being the most exciting choice.

    Re: Car and Driver - comparison test Z06 v 997 TT v F430

    Can't argue with that.

    3.4 sec

    Re: Car and Driver - comparison test Z06 v 997 TT v F430

Was the 997tt a 6 speed with LS? Was there any lap times for these cars?

They really need to elimnate 0-60 testing. It doesn't mean nearly as much when all the best cars do it under 4 seconds. It meant something when it was 7 or 8 seconds but not anymore. It has more to do with driver talent than anything else.

    Re: Car and Driver - comparison test Z06 v 997 TT v F430

For todays 500hp sportscars the 0 to 150mph time should be the basic yardstick.

Agreed. What is the TTs 0-150 time?

    Re: Car and Driver - comparison test Z06 v 997 TT v F430

@355- I dont know what it is.

Whats surprising is how good some cars aerodynamics are now.

There are de limited BMW's, Benz's, even VW W12 Phaetons! that can punch enough air out of the way to hit 190mph.

Also, Porsche braking standards used to include (and I dont know if this benchmark has been changed)minimal fade after ten successive rapid stops from 150mph.

I wonder what the braking standards are for the other companies?? Mag tests dont seem to get that interested about repeated brake tests from hi speed.

    0-100mph 7.8

    0-150mph 19.1

    1/4 mile 11.7sec 121 mph

0 to 150mph in 19.1 seconds is frkkkkn fast.

Hope your Turbo is in your garage soon Darius!

Well, somehow I appreciate the ranking...

    BTW, scans anybody?

I think 0-60 does have some value in 500 hp cars

    1) It is a reflection of how well a car can access it's power, i.e. traction
    2) 60 mph represents the maximum legal speed in much of the U.S. (unfortunately) so 0-60 gives some feel for the day-to-day "punch and go"

Re: I think 0-60 does have some value in 500 hp cars

Is this Magazine Out Yet or did you just get an early preview ??

Sounds like a realistic testing of these great cars. Why does it seem that every rag comes up with the same numbers as Porsche. Do they actually test the cars at speed or copy the data?
Bottom line though. No matter whos data it is; agreed, these cars are f@#k*&% fast!

0-xxx is worthless IMO in US/Germany...

In twisties, 30-80MPH is relevant coming out of curves....and brake pedal feel/fade resistance/stopping dists are relevant in corner entry speeds...

On CA urban fwys, 60-120MPH accel is useful daily for navigating "holes" in traffic....and on derestricted AB, 60-180MPH+ accel is relev when escaping a clump of traffic (doubt anyone is at 0MPH start on AB/fwy )...

0-60MPH may be useful for guys stoplight drag racing in lovely places like OrangeCty, FL and other "flyover zones"....

Re: I think 0-60 does have some value in 500 hp cars

Can anybody post the numbers for each of the cars ? But scans are also appreciated.

Re: I think 0-60 does have some value in 500 hp cars

Just a performance measurement that can be pretty standardized. No more relevant to daily driving than 0-100-0 ("Honey, let me show you how I can get to the next stop light in Manhattan in 10 seconds!"

The Z06 does it in 17.5. Yeeouch that's fast.

    Re: Car and Driver - comparison test Z06 v 997 TT v F430

and Z06 creamed all the cars in the performance category, its soo sad that the person who posted this forgot to mention that the rankings were bogus and didnt mean squot in terms of performance, only when you add the gotta have it factor do both the cars come on top, in performance, Z06 ate both the top dogs for lunch becoming the top dog..its sad that TT guys would not look at that...

I love the TT but give credit where its due..

i also agree with the rankings when it comes to gotta have it factor, but in performance please...

look at the track times and the braking where porsche use to call supremacy..Z06 creamed it again..its sad..porsche is not worth the 135 price tag...if the Z06 is 72k, then Turbo couldnt be more than 25-28k putting it 35k over priced.. i unfortunately cant say the same for the F430, cuz its just soo much more..they make soo few of them and it will always remain the object of desire where as the 997 is a good car to have if you dont have the cash for a ferrari which happens to look like any other 100s of variants of the 911 sold in walmart volumes..

Why is desirability based upon what your bretheren have? Do you love your wife because she is who she is or because you were the lucky guy out of all of her suitors who were after her? Is your taste shaped by the thought and perception of others?

Don't let your taste be tarnished by relativity, the F430 is a wonderful car by every strech of the imagination, but its greatness does not lie in its scarcity. That is falsely fabricated...

If scarcity is falsely fabricated then tell me how many 911 does porsche sell? I reckon about a tad less than 28,000 and how many F430s does ferrari sell, well a tad less than 5000 i believe, there you go for rarity..

Turbo is a nice nice car..no doubt, I much rather have the F430 in place of it and for true driving dynamics have the GT3 or the GT2..but turbo surely does have the edge when it comes to an all round every day sunshine or rain/snow type of car..i will give it than, besides that, in this test it should have ranked last...

F430 (X factor and somewhat performance)
    Z06(top performance and price)
    997T (performance)

Everything even, i will always have the point that porsche's are way over priced by atleast 20%, if not more..i think more..but 20% reduction would be just about what they are worth..but that doesnt stop one from buying a 911 if you have the means..then worth really doesnt make sense..

    Re: Car and Driver - comparison test Z06 v 997 TT v F430

Business 101: price is determined by the market. Price to high, no sales. The fact you quote the number of Porsche sales and then say the price is too high is silly.

I can get a 430 here in 6 months, built to spec. By the way, Porsche only makes about 6000 Turbos per year and the Turbo is the competitor to the 430, not the standard 911. The standard 911 will compete with the baby Ferrari (Dino?). Also, Ferrari have their sights set on Porsche as a model, which they wish to reach. Porsche is insanely profitable and I don't care if there are 28.000 911's around the world. It's not like you see one every day, unless you live in LA, SF or NYC. So much for Ferrari. Only more desirable in the States, while the rest of the world isn't like that (at least not in Europe).
The C6Z is an awesome car, but I would like to see a braking test, where they brake from high speed (150 mph+) repeatedly. THIS is what matters, not several feet from 60. That is, unles you like to street race. I'm pretty confidenrt though, that Porsche will send the powerkit on the market soon enough, to deal with the C6Z. Anyway, the Turbo is powerful enough as it is, and if that 1,5 seconds mean so much to you, then go ahead and buy one, the Corvette is a great buy, but quit pounding on Porsche. They are playing in league with Ferrari, not the Corvette.

Find a new 430 at msrp anywhere in the US and I will buy it for you. And if you can't you owe me a dollar. See if its scarcity is "falsely fabricated"....... Take the bet?

Z06 creams all the other cars because it's mostly made out of plastic. That's it.

    Re: Car and Driver - comparison test Z06 v 997 TT v F430

0-60 in 3.4 0-100 in 7.8! Those are impressive numbers especially considering it was a 6spd. Anyone know if it had LSD or PCCB? LSD may have put the lap time closer to the Z06.
