Exactly! I love the Techart rims, but I guess Techart will be pissed again. Porsche already copied their rear-wing and side-inlets for the 997 Turbo. Now the rims?...

Looks like they changed the tailights to make our cars look dated from 100 yards. I expected this and it's here already!

GD trendy sytlistic BS of our pointy-curved tailights: really pi**es me off..

If they are changing the taillights that is a bad change. The current design fits the car and is NOT (repeat not) like the Japanese cars pointed taillights at all.

Re: As predicted but so soon?

    ADias, I totally agree.

Re: As predicted but so soon?

    I don't think we're looking at a facelift here.

The tail lights of the turbo, GT3, GT3RS and GT2 are (or will be) the same as the current 997 carrera. Same thing with the headlights. Changing those right now or even in a year or 2 would just make the cars I cited above as dated as the current 997 carrera. Do you really think porsche would change the tail lights' design considering that the Gt3 is not even on sale yet?

    Come on...

What I think? I think as I stated in a previous post that we're gonna have a 997C4s with a turbo body. We might even get the tail lights of the 996C4s. I think that what's hidden behind all this.

As for an increase in power, I would be very surprised too. Why on earth porsche would need to do that? The 911 line up is pretty complete now. If they bump power figures, what are they gonna do with the GT3's 415bhp?

Re: As predicted but so soon?

the rear lights looks like LED lights?

Re: As predicted but so soon?

Amazon, I don't thin that your statement makes a lot of sense, Porsche will be able to sell the facelif to all the models, so first the normal Carrera models, and after those the facelifted GT3 , rs and GT2.
What I find weird, is that they are so early, and why would they show these vehicles o the public so soon? It is perferctly possible to not show these cars. I know there is a reason behind every testing model porsche sends out, but I don't understand this move... maybe some of the better informed people can shed some light? (RC, did you hear anything interesting lately? )

Look at the leading edge of the front bumper....different
Could it be deployable as described below

    FWIW,

The Cayman is on the left, IMO shows that Porsche got more sensible after the BMW-ized 997 taillights. Nissan is on the right.

Re: As predicted but so soon?

Wow what a suprise, FL picture already. I wonder what plans they have for the boxster, now that the 911 will be having a very similar front bumper. It seem like the rear lights and front dimlights are LED and only that will make the current 911s look pretty dated.

Anyone who want to join me and start a company which produced LED lights for the 997?

Re: As predicted but so soon?

    Ron,

Thanks for the photos--nothing like fueling the fire.

Did the prices of the '07s just take a $10k beating?

I'd add more but I'm too busy patting myself on the back for my "Evil MY08 Speculation" thread of 2 whole days ago.

Re: As predicted but so soon?

low end Toyotas and Hondas already have LED lights...
i'm still amazed (as so many others here on this forum are) that they
didn't have them on the 997TT so i'm sure that they will arrive on the 2008...

Re: As predicted but so soon?

The 997 will finally get the right wheels a simple looking (no so busy) wheel that will give the car the perfect touch and thus keeping it looking factory .

997 Mk1 was relaesed in 2004, but late 2004 as a 2005 model. So the 997 Mk2 is one year ahead by your dates here.

    Re: '08 911 Spy shots

If it is indeed a Carrera update for MY08, Porsche has no shame.

Not only have they introduced more models than GM , they are now replacing those models faster than your local grocery can replace their milk.

    Re: '08 911 Spy shots

The rear LED-lights for me take getting use to. My preference is with the current 997 tail-lights. I won't mind any of the other subtle redesigns.

I recall a few issues back, one of the evos mentioned that Porsche is considering hiking the engine displacement after the 997 series even further. So I take it that this update may be a standard 3.8 liter throughout the lineup?

    Re: '08 911 Spy shots

The 08 face lift is right on schedule they did the same thing with the headlights on the 996 ..... I remember I felt like my 996 had two fried eggs for headlights after they did that and had to go out and get the new one . This company has this down to a science they always keep you looking and wanting the new and improved version and this facelift is going to really be slick .

Gotta say that is the nice thing about Ferrari , there are not so many marketing games just the raw car without the hype and variation . Buying a Porsche now is like getting coffee at Starbucks . Have you ever walked into Starbucks and asked for a cup of coffee they look at you like you are from a different planet . I kind of like the " would you like the 430 in a coupe or a convertible and that will be it for 4 years .

I always feel with my Porsches I am never really happy there is always another model I really want . Even now buy the 977TT Cab and soon you will see a 997TTS Cab and be drooling

    Re: '08 911 Spy shots

Too soon! If that is the case, howabout a 09 facelift turbo and GT3!

    Re: '08 911 Spy shots

Talking about making decisions harder. The thing I found out is that even if there is a "updated" version, I would be happy with what I want. If the MKII GT3 indeed is powered by a 3.8 I doubt I would lose sleep knowing the original 997 GT3 is in my garage.

    Re: '08 911 Spy shots

the conv. looks to be a C4

    C4/S in Turbo body?

It already is. The Turbo body is no wider than the C4/S. I also don't see what the big deal is about LED's. What's far more important is what's in the engine bay.

    Re: C4/S in Turbo body?

If add LEDs or change the shape of the rear lights, will the Turbo/GT3/Targa adopt these changes for MY08 as well? That would annoy a lot of people.

    Re: C4/S in Turbo body?

I don't even have my turbo here yet! and I have to worry about new lights! especially LED ones!

Time to order my 2010 Ferrari F4X0!

Rear.... compare the Lights and the lower rear bumper

Can someone delineate the change in the rear part. The lights seem to be different. The front differences are obvious and it definitely take the Boxster 987s front. Is it customary for Porsche to roll out a facelift so soon? I currently own the 987s 2006 and I suspect that soon it will also get a facelift. I was planning to trade up for a 997 but I think with model lifespan being shortened these days, I think it won't be too long before we may see a rollout of the 998 (DSG/PDK being in the works anyway) maybe in 2010. I am more interested really in the powerupgrade.

    Yes...

Re: As predicted but so soon?

I don't think the rear lights have a different shape.

They put tape to make it look different, but if you look closely they seem to have the same shape.

They do look like having LED. Nothing exiting, as I don't mind traditional lights.

I wonder what this car is exactly? Facelift? New turbo look 997 C4S?

I also am much more interested with the engine changes..
If the new one will have about 370 / 375 HP what will happen with the power kit ? Still be at 381 HP ? That would be lots of money for very little more power... Will they have a power kit that delivers 405 HP That would be perfect!!!!

Re: As predicted but so soon?

Maybe we'll see the return of the 4S rear light stripe?

Re: As predicted but so soon?

Oh well spotted there man. Never noticed that. Looks like it could be, although that strip does look a bit thin though

Yes, you are right. Looks too thin, and the rear fender is too high.
