    K-40 Calibre Installer Recommendation Needed

Any recommend a K-40 installer in the Atlanta, GA area?

Re: K-40 Calibre Installer Recommendation Needed

My background is in radar. (About 30 years worth). I chose the Valentine 1 over the others as I mount mine up as high as I can. Line of sight is line of sight. Anything mounted (albeit with more of a covert presence) in the intakes area is going to not alert you the earliest. Early notice is what radar detection is all about. Compromising it with a location that favors stealth, to me, violates the basics,--early warning. I keep all my 'raw gear' up high, on all my aircraft/vehicles! The positional data (front, rear, lateral) is also an added benefit. I can't tell you how useful that information is.

    Don't bother with K40

    V1 or nothing

check radartest.com best instant on- passport x50
V1 only got best laser and best windshield mount.

Re: K-40 Calibre Installer Recommendation Needed

I think most on this board would agree with me that V1 is the only option

I wouldn't trust the information on that site, especially so with regards to Valentine, the owner of that site has something personal with the Valentine and is biased.

Re: K-40 Calibre Installer Recommendation Needed

I have about 8.5 yrs experience in radar myself and I totally agree with Dan L regarding placement, LOS, etc. to optimize performance. However, I've limited my low level flying to the p-car and a Yamaha R1. My daily driver is used for my leisurely commute in bumper-to-bumper traffic, so no detector needed there really. No detector needed on the R1 either (for obvious reasons), but the p-car is another story. With a C4S Cab, I'd hate to have to take a windshield mount down everytime I park the car somewhere (or even worse, leave it mounted and worry about theft the whole time) -- either scenario sucks! I'd almost rather drive "naked" so to speak. I figured the k-40 system along with some "defensive" driving might be a better option for me than a windshield mount -- and much better option than having nothing at all. I guess with k-40 I would be relying a bit more on the detection of energy deflected from objects ahead for additional range. I try to avoid speeding on a deserted highways or around blind curves anyway -- whether with a detector or without one. Anyway, I haven't made up my mind yet, but wanted to talk with a knowledgeable installer (and you guys) about my options and review the specs.

Why don't we get an official Mike Valentine opinion on this?

K40 is junk. If you want a remote install detector for US then get a Bel RX-75 or a Escort SR-7 (same thing different name), you will ge much better performance.

Re: K-40 Calibre Installer Recommendation Needed

I had the V-1 installed at my porsche dealer next to my rear view mirror on my C2Scab. I still have not been able to detect a radar from any police cars in my area. I don't know if they have not been using radar as often to stop speeding cars or if mine is not working, but it seems to pick up every automatic door I drive by.

Re: K-40 Calibre Installer Recommendation Needed

Come to New York - you'll find plenty of places do test your V1's Ka and laser sensitivity

Re: K-40 Calibre Installer Recommendation Needed

Every time I go to New York I fly there and then get around on the subway. I wish our members down south would plan a trip so we could drive up and meet you guys in N.Y.C. !!

Re: K-40 Calibre Installer Recommendation Needed

    Rhino,

If you drive up and make it up here by the 28th (Next Friday) - you can join us out in the Hamptons. I think you guys will go nuts when you see the pictures from this event.

Re: K-40 Calibre Installer Recommendation Needed

I probably won't be able to join you guys this time, but the guys down south really need to plan a trip in the future. I look forward to seeing the pics, I'm sure it's going to be a blast!!!
