    Dealer exhaust hack

I'm wondering whether anyone has been offered a dealer hacked OEM exhaust. They claim that it mimics PSE (without the button). On a straight exchange basis they would charge $1800 CDN. They also claim that it's been dyno tested to give an extra 11 hp at the wheel.

For PSE, one porsche dealer quoted $3700 plus $600 for labor. And if I want the button, it will be another $1100. I think we in Canada are being heavily gouged compared to elsewhere in the world.

Btw, tubi exhaust would be about 3k CDN over here. The only thing is that the dealer hacked exhaust is cheaper and they're willing to guarantee it.

    Thanks

    Re: Dealer exhaust hack

imo it sounds stupid except for the $1,100.00 button thing. that's pure porsche.. tubi

Can't you find a dealer in the US to do what you want at a much lower cost??

    Re: Dealer exhaust hack

I might be able to get a US dealer to do it cheaper but then I have to drive the car down and take more time off work.

It's Summertime . It's a nice drive and we like you guys down here .
And, you can get the PSE , complete with switch , controls etc, installed for ~ $2100 . Lol

    Re: Dealer exhaust hack

The stealer swaps out your exhaust for someone else's they've gutted? And they charge $1,800 for that? What a rip. At any rate your options sound like a lot for a sound only thing.(the HP claims are dubious) If you must there's gotta be someone who can install a PSE just over the border on a Saturday. Good luck with it.

    Re: Dealer exhaust hack

Supposedly I was told that the muffler that's going in is newer than the one I have. But then you got to think what will they do with mine?

Wow, $1800 usd installed with the button! We Canadians are suckers.

    Re: Dealer exhaust hack

I think you should do it just for the sound. I will do the same thing. Altough I have a decent exhaust guy here and he will hack it for maybe $200. That price is a rip off. You should tak yours to a exhaust specialist that you can trust. I bet theirs is no different than a pipe welded into the muffler.

I will use this system until I decide on the upgrade route I want to take.

    Good luck!!!

BTW: I am not sure but it is been said that the PSE mufflers and stock mufflers are the same except for that extra bypass pipe with the pneumatic valve.

    Re: Dealer exhaust hack

I have never heard of this new muffler before, I'd rather go with the original stuff that works. What if the sound is disappointing?

Don't worry, I was charged $4500 to retrofit my PSE here in South Africa

    Re: Dealer exhaust hack

The dealer showed me the new muffler and basically it's the old one with a bypass pipe and supposedly it is also re-worked on the inside. I was told it's very similar to PSE.

For South Africa the shipping charges from Germany is at least a bit more than to Canada. Also South Africa is probably a smaller market compared to North America. So at least the higher cost is a bit easier to understand.

What I want to know is whether any dealer else where is offering this cheaper solution. I guess it only make sense in Canada becaues Porsche charges much more for PSE than elsewhere.

    Re: Dealer exhaust hack

    pfslai,
why do you just buy a PSE? and install it via an independent service? I have PSE without the electronic switch. I just manually connect/disconnect the vaccnum tubes. This way I can have PSE on without switching to Sports mode.
