    Speeding in France...

Two brits just got cought speeding on the french highway with a 360 spider and a 997.

The first one at 257 km/h (244 km/h for the police), the second at 200 km/h (190 km/h for the police).

They where on the London-Rimini route for a gumball something.

They both got three months of jail, 1.000 Euro to pay and the french state is now the proud owner of the cars that are going to be sold !

    Just say no to speed.

The cars will be sold only if they don't make an appeal.

Plus they're free. It's 3 months "avec sursis" (probation I think in english ???)

    Re: Speeding in France...

Yes, they are free untill they got caught again speeding in France in a period of five long years.

Of course they can make an appeal, but with that speed on open roads in a vacation period, the court will probably confirm to confiscate the cars.

Last Ferrari I heard sold by the french state was a yellow 360 Modena driven at 272 km/h by a guy from switzerland near St-Tropez.

    So it can happen !

    Re: Speeding in France...

What's the speed limit after which they impound your car? Is it 175 KPH and over? I got nailed a couple of years back(just a fine) and I remember that Eric Clapton had his car impounded.

For the french law, you musn't go 50 km/h more than the speed limit.

If you do so twice, you are considered a criminal.

So on the highway (130 km/h limit - 110 km/h when it rains) more than 180 km/h is not good for you (and your car).

    Re: Speeding in France...

Sheesh, harsh laws! Remind me to never speed in France...

    Re: Speeding in France...

Here (Spain), things are just that bad or even worse...Radars have changed from 144kph, to now 133kph..

And now with this new (to us), driving license by "points", its even more and more worse....

I think Carlos, can explain really better than me the kind of situation we have now here..

Its no joke, I see in some years people using more often the public transport, than using their propers cars, not just sportscars!

I remember on the spanish news, a new Audi A8, caught speeding at 250kph, I think he went to jail, and got his driving license suspended...

    lots of cases

    Re: Speeding in France...

Last time I did factory delivery when I crossed into France I did not slow down . I got pulled over outside of Paris for going about 120MPH ... they put me in a cab and sent me to a bank and had me bring them back $600.00 while the officers waited with my car on the side of the road . They warned me at the factory about speeding in Switzerland especially the tunnels but said nothing about France .

    Re: Speeding in France...

Fr is arguably fairly irrelevant for car nuts and speeding anyway...except as a place for London hedgies to poss buy unsold 599/Enzo 2.0 @MSRP

Wouldn't any serious Lond/EU car guy just get a wkend house in Munich to keep high-speed toys for AB runs???....and just fly/copter into Paris/MC for dinner and nightlife....and have limo and driver to take one's prob inebriated self and guests from dinner to various nightspots.....

I'm surprised they wouldn't just accept a credit card.

    Re: Speeding in France...

I'm going to say 993 Turbo of some sort. That front bumper is a RUF CTR-2 front.

They were racing each other. And that's a lot different than "just" speeding on your own.

They are trying to send a message to thos idiots who takes the highway as a race track. There are aiming at Gumball and all these illegal races on public road. Thay don't just speed, they race and put other's people life in danger.

I don't think that if you're speeding they'll take the car away.

    Re: Speeding in France...

    Thanks for the info man.
    Terrible news!
Sometimes, I wonder if I shouldn't get a GT3 Cup for the Track and an ML V8 diesel for the road really...javascript:void(0)

They really make it hard for us to enjoy our toys

At least, there are the back country roads...
    Forget motorway high speed now.

Last month, they cought me twice on the highway, near Monaco, at 159km/h and I only had to pay 90 euro ...
the second tme I had to pull over, they only checked my papers, and let me go, I was speeding at least at 180km/u when the cought me !
So France isn't that bad (for me)
I also have been cought by steady speedtraps along the highway at least 12 times during one week (travelling 3300km in total), and I haven't seen anything yet (and yes, I saw the flashlight of the speedtraps)

    Re: Speeding in France...

I can understand them confiscating the cars, but selling them as well????? What kind of a law is that?

    Re: Speeding in France...

    Re: Speeding in France...

I see that you last posted yesterday. Can you give us an update on the situation? Have things settled down at all?

    Re: Speeding in France...

I saw on the newspaper in Switzerland the police caught another Porche speeding, i dont remender the details , the driver lost his drivers license , they paid the ticket immediately with credicard , changed drivers and continued....

    Re: Speeding in France...

Here's what happened to a BMW owner in Belgium while getting caught with an anti-radar device:
    - his permit is gone for 1 year
    - device impounded and destroyed
    - 2750 euro (3500 usd)
    - BMW is now property of the state and will be sold ultimately

So in total this guy lost about 750+2750+25000= 28500 euro (36500 usd) and his permit for 1 year. Simply unbelievable.

    Re: Speeding in France...

    Was speed was he driving??
