GROUP BUY. DMS Remap to appx. 380bhp/425Nm (C2S)

I've been interested in getting an ECU remap just to help the C2S get to 5,500 a little quicker.

I undersatnd from a number of Forums the DMS remap appears to be the one to go for.

They do travel to your home should you require so you don't have to go out of your way to get it which is a bonus I suppose.

So, my question is would anyone else be interested then I could use this to get the price down which is currently Pounds850.00 plus VAT.

I've already set the hare running so I may even hear back this afternoon.

Here's an extract from an email received today -

    Quote:
Thanks for the enquiry. We have been upgrading the 997's since they first came out. We do not use a switchable system as they ALL leave information in the ecu that can alert the dealer by triggering the flash reader counter. Worst still the Revo system leaves the whole modified file in the spare capacity of the eprom. We directly reprogramme the ecu by removing ot from the vehicle and this does not trigger the flash reader. The changes we subsequently make cannot be read by Porsche service and diagnostic equipment. Expect around 24 BHP and 20 lb/ft torque increase. Cost Pounds850+vat and work can be carried out at your location at no additional cost.

    Check out their website HERE

Oops sorry guyz and Galz, it's a UK only buy. Not that I'm trying to exclude our friends from across the pond or anywhere else for that matter, but it's highly likely that you wouldn't pay Pounds850.00 + VAT anyway.

Re: GROUP BUY. DMS Remap to appx. 380bhp/425Nm (C2S)

Good luck with the group buy

I'd be interested to hear what happens if the OPC load revised software during a service - presumably you then lose the DMS maps and have to start again ?

Re: GROUP BUY. DMS Remap to appx. 380bhp/425Nm (C2S)

I know it's early days but it doesn't look too promising from the point of a group buy. However, that is a good point you make. I'll ask the question!

Re: GROUP BUY. DMS Remap to appx. 380bhp/425Nm (C2S)

Do you really think you can gain 24 REAL hp with an ECU upgrade??? Maybe this guys can offer you their sport air filter who gives 15 hp and together with their exhaust system which gives 25Hp you would end up with a 420Hp power beast tuned by magicians who discover the power pouder miracle for the 997S

Ok, just kidding, but think what Porsche needs to do with their X51 power option in order to get 25Hp!!!!!
I really don't understand how these magicians can say an ECU tuning can give 24hp in a atmo engine, this is like your banc account manager saying he can give you a 90% profit with their new finance aplication by investing money in siver coins.

Re: GROUP BUY. DMS Remap to appx. 380bhp/425Nm (C2S)

Again, a very good point. I really don't know. I think I will ask for some rolling road before and after figures/graphs to substantiate his claims. But, a good question and one that needs answering.

Re: GROUP BUY. DMS Remap to appx. 380bhp/425Nm (C2S)

Keep at it ResB - DMS are about the est chip people in the UK, and have proven their claims of 300+ from a 987S

Re: GROUP BUY. DMS Remap to appx. 380bhp/425Nm (C2S)

It's fantastic 24hp, only with an ECU upgrade!!!!
I'm wainting for the answers for this "magic", because the POWER KIT of Porsche change a lot of parts for insignificant 27hp and only simple ECU up grade = 24hp!!!

Re: GROUP BUY. DMS Remap to appx. 380bhp/425Nm (C2S)

I can only go on my personal experience of DMS.
I currently have a BMW 535D sport which has been re-mapped by DMS with suprising results
Standard bhp was 272, it now produces 334bhp and over 500lbs of torque.

If you have the work done by DMS and for some reason it has to go back to the dealer (apparently the work is undetectable) and the ecu is wiped, DMS will re-map it again for free.

I would say that 24hp is a small gain really for a DMS re-map !

The reason Porsche charge Pounds5k+ for similar gains is .............................PoundsPoundsPounds$$$$ !!

Re: GROUP BUY. DMS Remap to appx. 380bhp/425Nm (C2S)

Its actually quite simple to understand why these remaps can give such significant uplifts. When Porsche (or any other car manufacturer for that matter) puts a vehicle on sale, they build in very significant tolerances to ensure that they have a minimal amount of aftersales problems with the products. That means that without changing anything beyond the ECU programming you can extract quite significant uplifts in performace. What that will do however, is put greater strain on other components within the engine and the wider vehicle, which is (a) why these remaps invalidate manufacturers warranties and (b) why when Porsche increases the output from its engines it recreates the level of tolerances by changing other components in the car at the same time.

Cynics might say that these components don't really need changing but it allows them to come up with an Pounds8,000 bill rather than a Pounds800 one.

My Land Rover Defender comes stock with about 120bhp but without much work I now have that running at about 200bhp. LR themselves sell a power upgrade for Pounds350 which takes it to 145bhp with just a chip but won't go further than that because of the punishment that many defenders get. They say that the engine itself is easily capable of handling over 200bhp but in the usage it gets, leaving it at an unstressed 145bhp means that it gives a far longer life to other components and therefore far less problems in a working life.

    Hope that helps

Re: GROUP BUY. DMS Remap to appx. 380bhp/425Nm (C2S)

There was a discussion on DMS chips a while back:

    http://www.rennteam.com/showflat.php?Cat...true#Post239090

I'm tempted as I my Audi S3 is chipped to add an extra 25bhp with Abt (added an extra 11% bhp). However, doing such non-approved mods on an 80k car is very different; frankly I would be scared to invalidate my warrantee (especially for only another 6% bhp).

I think I will pass for now, especially as I only recently spent 1500 quid on a PSE, but I may look into again later. Especially if you subsequently give it rave-reviews!

Please do let us all know how you get on with DMS though.

PS: you guys know the new Boxter's are soon getting power hikes to be in line with the Cayman's engines, well does anyone know how Porsche are doing this? Perhaps just a remap or actually upgrading parts?!

There's a difference between remapping an atmospheric and a turbocharged engine. Also, I'm not sure you'd want to drive your 535d at full throttle for a long time (might break something ).

Re: GROUP BUY. DMS Remap to appx. 380bhp/425Nm (C2S)

The 07 Boxster S power hike is realised through fitting the Cayman S's variocam 3.4l engine!

I am quite aware of this

DMS offer a full warranty if it is shown that the re-map was in any way the cause of any failure !

..............and when was the last time that you drove your car at full throttle for a long time ??

Re: GROUP BUY. DMS Remap to appx. 380bhp/425Nm (C2S)

You cannot compare an engine upgrade between a atmo or Turbo engine.

To gain 60 hp on a 996TT engine just a simple chip and 1000 euros will do. To gain 60 on a GT3 you would need to open the engine, reworke the head, new cilinders, cammshafts, exhaust, remap and some other mods, rise the cc to 3.8l and so on. well the cost would more than 15000 euros, enought said.

Re: GROUP BUY. DMS Remap to appx. 380bhp/425Nm (C2S)

Do DMS mention any down sides?

    I.e. Economy and fuel grades?

Usually a power hike like this would mean 97/98RON would be a requirement as opposed to simply desirable.

Re: GROUP BUY. DMS Remap to appx. 380bhp/425Nm (C2S)

A friendly advice from somebody who doesn't gain or loose anything from adverisements: FORGET about tuning a non-turbo/supercharger charged engine with software remapping (ECU tuning) only. Not worth it, not recommended.

You want more power, get the powerkit retrofitted. Expensive but you keep the warranty and you REALLY have a gain in performance. (0-125 mph/200 kph in 15.0 seconds instead of 16.2 seconds). Not to mention the PSE which comes with it. You want even more power? Before you do something stupid like adding a turbo/supercharger kit to your car: get a 997 Turbo (even a 996 Turbo S would do). Put yourself on a waiting list and prepare selling your car.

Don't waste your time and nerves with aftermarket chip tuning for a "normally aspirated" engine. Really not worth it.

Re: GROUP BUY. DMS Remap to appx. 380bhp/425Nm (C2S)

Thanks for words of wisdom guyz. Difficult decision to be honest.

    Got this update yesterday.

Thanks for the reply. I am sure the remap will achieve what you are looking for. At the end of the day the proof of the pudding is in the eating as they say. We offer a full money back guarantee unless 100% satisfied with the improvements to the car. I fully appreciate anybody trying to get a 'better deal' but with our Porsche work which we believe is second to none we do not normally offer any discounts. Certainly on the new 997 Turbo which is currently being worked on the development cost alone will not permit any discount whatsoever for the foreseeable future. Group buys are all very well but it usually ends up with very few putting their money where the mouth is. As a strict one off I would be prepared to consider a discount if you belong to a specific forum relating to Porsche. The discount would benefit forum members with a 20% discount if the car was brought to us or 10% if we attend to the customer address to affect the upgrade. This would give a price of Pounds799 inc vat if the car came to us.

What about if you already have PSE? Is it the same cost?
