    It looks beautiful to me. Very.
    One tiny issue seems to be the slightly more "weight" at the back (i'm talking about the design). It looks a bit out of balance, with the back bulkier/heavier than the front

    Don't get me wrong its beautiful and I don't really wanna a call it a 4 door coupe.

    Its looks like the new E class 5 years from now, but the front has got to go, and why ont a Mercedes star on the hood instead of the grille?

    This car like will amke the E too cheap and the S too overpriced. Just like what the SL65 will do to the SLR and SL55...

    The SL/SLK/CL and CLK deserve grill stars, not a 4 door car. Especially not the CLS.

    Showed the pics to my wife . She said it looks like a " chick car " and predicts it will be popular with the " women who do lunch " crowd here in Palo Alto, LOL . I thought about that more and she's right - oval Jag interior wood dash and Lexus ES 330 like shape - it's obvious who MBZ is aiming it towards.

    Bilal, calm down you seem a little anxious about this car. It has a three pointed star on the grill because Mercedes Benz insists that it is a coupe, no matter what we want to call it, thats just the way it's gonna be. Because Benz said so!!! I can see it as a coupe and a sedan, just like you can call almost any Benz coupe a sedan(C-class = CLK, S-class = CL). Hopefully you guys understand what I am trying to say. It is all in the eye of the beholder.

    Let me ask if any of you have seen the CLS concept in person? I have, and it actually looks quite different from what you see in the pics. I think the CLS production version will look good in person.

    but the world doesn't revolve around Palo Alto.
    Now I agree that MB has been making cars with more feminine stying since 1993 - and they do that b/c 80% of ALL car buying decisions are influenced (not made by) but influenced by woman (see gf and wife).

    Anyways the bulk on this car is such that a woman would look as sexy driving this as they would driving a Phantom. Kind of like me in a Beetle, I could do it, but it won't look cool.
    With the massive bulk and the extreme, pronounced cut in the profile, to me I think MB has finally "masculinized" their feminine styled cars enough for me to look at it again.
    I fail to see the chick car thing.

    Let's touch bases in 18 months and compare notes on who buys this model . I predict empty nester women will be main market for all but the AMG version ( hence the 4 seat capacity for two childless couples going to the opera ) . A friend works for Daimler Chrysler in Irvine where this car was designed and said that was the precise demographic they designed this car to from inception , cliniced to Jaguar and Lexus intenders . You can see a lot of " design team living in Socal surrounded by Japanese cars " influence from the Lexus ES profile incl short side glazing to the smoothed out Acura TL -style rear lamps. They originally thought this demographic would buy the CLK series, but it hasn't worked out that way because of the stubby styling and " Germanic " interior didn't strike the right chord with certain buyers of this kind of car.
    OTOH, the next S class will return to a more masculine and large- car stance compared to the lithe -looking current one.
    The CLS does look different which is good , as the rest of the current MBZ line otherwise looks like one sausage cut to different lengths , which previously applied to the BMW line and which Bangle tried too hard to veer away from.

    I think personally that most MB's are unisex, as are most cars for that matter? Isn't beauty and the way its interpreted in the eye of the beholder???????

    Im going to call MB or B.H. and see what they know, I wouldn't mind having first dibs on one of these at all! Gotta see what my other options are, the 997 might be worth waiting for?

    Im also interested to hear what the press has to say about the CLS. I wonder if you feel like your'e in a coupe when your'e driving it??? How does it match compared to the competition(I doubt the RX8 is close competiton , as it is the only other four door coupe on the market)???
